I know Blowtorch is brightly colored for a military unit, but I have always loved his design. In my opinion, he has one of the best designs in GI Joe.

i remember listening to a radio station in 1988 as a male host urged people to donate to an upcoming Christmas toy drive. A female host asked what action figure he personally gave to this charity. He chose Charboil simply because Carl G. Shannon looked exactly like Prince Charles of Edinburgh. I wouldn't be surprised if that was intentional. As HCC788 mentions at 14:17, those head sculpts are reminiscent of British monarchy.

I’m not seeing any reference to it on any online sources, but the sadistic function coupled with the very sinister helmet design (not to mention the ornamentation on the helmet’s forehead) makes this guy feel like he was supposed to be Cobra.

That's an interesting character, a little too retro sci-fi to be considered a proper solider but the helmet is cool if rather strange looking. By changing the colors to be more probable for military use and getting rid of the snazzy little yellow shoulder flares I don't think he'd be all that bad, but I would think he'd be used on solo missions where the US government needed something or someone complete erased. These would be very dangerous missions, if one incendiary round hit the window on his fuel pack that's it, he's fricasseed and you'd see the explosion from five miles away!

The actual physical helmet almost resembles a 40k space marine helmet. Funny thing is I'm not sure the more modern mkvii helmets were even out when this guy was released or if the original beaky helmets were it. 40k nerds will understand. Am I just seeing things tho? Check 4:30 c what u think

I really like the hose that came with Charboil. I wish that the other hoses in the vintage line were as good. Cool helmet but I wish it was of softer plastic. Overall, I like the figure. I definitely wouldn't want his job.

As a kid, I liked the design of the figure, but something that look didn’t feel quite right for him to be a Joe. Also, he’s got kind of a psychotic glare in his eyes in the card art. So, once the Cobra Incinerators hit the pegs, I had him switch sides to be their commander, using the justification that he’d developed cancer from his time shoveling coal and from wearing an asbestos suit. Initially, it was because Cobra has offered to pay for his cancer treatments in exchange for info on the Joes, but then he found he quite enjoyed being able to cut loose and burn everything (really giving into those pyromaniac tendencies alluded to on the file card). What can I say? I was a weird kid growing up. 🤷‍♂️😂

@Magnus Lauglo Oh. I like the Joe's as the are. I'd never have any of the sub teams anyway. You'll never see Tiger Force, Python Patrol, Night Force, or Slaughter Maurauders in my collection. Even if some of them have "nicer" colors. I just find those 4 sub teams and their vehicles, lazy repaints. I think Charbroil is an excellent figure as is. My only complaint is his ill fitting helmet.

I can't help but think the mold was meant for a space type fig. Remember the designers kept putting out sketches and others were making the decision as to which to actually flesh out, what accessories to give them and specialty.

In Afghanistan Allied forces did a lot of fighting in mountain caves, which were being used by the Taliban as strongholds. Flame throwers would've been ideal for fighting inside those places, making it easy to get at enemy troops hiding around corners and inside chambers, whilst reducing the casualty rate for our side.

H.E.A.T Viper wasn't a flamethrower. H.E.A.T is an acronym for High Explosive Anti-Tank. Think of it as a science fiction version of a bazooka soldier from WWII with Cobra's sense of color and design.

@@johnsoehnlen4781 Yeah. "Operation Dragon Fire" was interesting enough, but you're right about the rest. 'Infantile' is a good word to describe it. It actually made my head and eyes hurt after a while and i felt myself growing more irritated. It saddened me because i was really invested in the stories from the Sunbow chapter and from the movie. i was really hoping to see all of the original characters continuing the adventures, and was disappointed to find that all but one of the female crew members had been axed and that the entire crew had been completely whitewashed for no reason at all. Even Destro was recast. My heart just sank. Don't even get me started on the live action movies.
