Clark Gable, I always saw him as Raul Julia from the Addams family in particular
@magaz11 ай бұрын
Looking at Raul’s wiki page his name was “Raul Rafael Julia” the “Rafael J” in Zaps file name paired with that moustache makes me think it was definitely intended to be inspired by him
@jordel201010 ай бұрын
Interesting you bring this up, because since Raul Julia was Puerto Rican, to me at least, Zap always seemed like he is from either Cuban or Puerto Rican ancestry. Some people in the US have this tendency of directly associating Latino with Mexican and think of both as interchangeable, and this is just not accurate.

This figure was one of my favorites as a kid. I always used the "grenade" launcher as a sonic weapon. That he'd be sending hordes of Cobra Troops several feet in the air.

I remember this fellow fondly, as do quite a few of the commenters apparently. Thanks for the content

My brother had this one when we were kids, and I always thought it was a great update to the OG13 character, unlike '91 Grunt. My brother had the gray weapons set, and while the silver variant obviously matched Zap's sliver paint apps, I'm partial to the gray, both for nostalgia reasons, and because I like that the gray "pistol" matches the gray battlefield robot (we never used it as backpack -- the treads are there for a reason!). And yeah -- definitely Clark Gable. We knew that even as kids, and, frankly, didn't give a damn.

Zap is definitely one of the figures that I should have bought in 1992 and 1993. The problem was that all the special teams, minus the Ninja Force, cost considerably more new back in the early 1990s.
@PeepshowMenagerie11 ай бұрын
This is an example of a figure that would look great with the Classified Tripwire treatment with interchangeable uniform parts so you could do his original and this version at once. Lets just not make it a Pulse exclusive this time.

I don't remember seeing this figure in store where I lived so i can't contribute to year release ha ha. The only figures i have now that fit in the sound making subset are Hawk and Overkill. If I had any of the sonic fighter figures I would use the backpack as an accessory because it really makes sense to do so. Falcon's is a definite backpack ha ha. I didn't know Zap was a bobblehead ha ha. I like it when the characters get a promotion as the years move forward.

"Barrelled" isn't really misspelled, it's just more common with one L in US English. UK English usage is almost entirely two Ls.
@yinzertoyguy367811 ай бұрын
Double Barrelled isn't technically a misspelling. There used to be a rule that you were supposed to double the final consonant in a word ending in one vowel and one consonant before adding suffixes like -ed. Thus rule is generally ignored now, but it's not wrong.

One important distinction between artillery and the kinds of infantry tube-launched rockets and missiles we'd associate with Zap is that artillery tends to fire in an arc at a target it can't see directly. The infantry version of artillery would be a mortar. I do wish this V2 had less silver - the sculpt itself is solid.

I picked up this figure second hand with no idea who the character was, in my head canon he was a cobra or even a mercenary.

Immediately after you said the 1982 figures were not good, the 7-year-old kid in me wearing rose-colored glasses was like, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" But as you proceeded to explain why, it was blatantly obvious...my nostalgia just blinded me to the truth. And now I know...so half the battle is won. Thanks for another year of fantastic videos!

I never had that version of Zap but I did have the reuse of that body that they used for the Joecon Python patrol Major Bludd and the over all design of it is really cool. I do agree that the silver is a bit over kill on the og like you said it would been nicer with it just relegated to the plates only , I do have to laugh that when they did use the same body for joecon they reused some the accessories too the gun from the pack (but there was no pack with bludd) and the grenade launcher but they omitted the cover part

I was always more drawn to the 82 guys over quite a lot of the rest of the line. Once teal and neon became common design choices I clung tighter to my green, brown, and occasionally tan stuff. '82 was my favorite over all lineup. As a side note I know quite a few Hispanic people that easily be mistaken/pass as Caucasian. Shipwreck(as much as I dislike him) gets the same deal supposed to be Hispanic looks Caucasian.
@cristiantiniguar-sevilla46711 ай бұрын
My dad, (I'm a young 'Joe fan,) gets it in reverse, as he's mostly Caucasian but can get mistaken for Hispanic sometimes. (He blames his height.)
@jeffjones246311 ай бұрын
My father was also commonly thought (by students in my class) as Hispanic because he had a rather dark skin tone. I wish characters like Zap, Shipwreck and Spirit were more realistic in appearance (it would would be a nice change from the two tones commonly used in the line).

Algorithm bump comment and question. You often say the ‘82 figures don’t use “original parts” or “reuse” parts. With respect, I disagree. I offer that all 1982 parts are original and used for the first time in 1982. Rather, most of the parts were shared, and not unique. If I am wrong I apologize.
