Night dive in Mexico back in the 80's. I had a lobster cornered under a rock outcropping but had to compete for it with a large moray on the other side of the space. I'd go to grab the lobster and the moray would make a move for my hand ... I finally said screw it and left the area to look for less contested prey.

I was catching lobster in Puerto Rico back in the 1990s and a Big Eeel took my lobster, he was fast, he must have been watching me , like he knew what I was doing down at the bottom

Many years ago I had one like the first one swim up on a night dive and curl around my upper thigh and spiral down my leg from there and then off into the night … I pointed my flashlight down to look when I felt it and caught it in the beam just in time to see it slip away 😄👍.

Fun fact.. the franchise ALIENS.. the aliens jaws are modeled after eels. Eels have another set of jaws in their mouth that comes forward when they bite.

Another Fun fact, Moray Ells are absolutely delicious, but if you don't know how to kill them, they take a very long time to die, because of their demonic fight or flight response that will cause them to resist even though they are brain dead. Aquatic creatures have some strange nervous systems. Octopus tentacles will continue to move and struggle because even though they are separated from the body, each tentacle has it's own dedicated sub-brain to aid the main brain in understanding all the data it gets from the other seven tentacles. And when a Octopus is attacked by a predator, the leg will continue to resist making the predator thing they sill have the main prey, while the octopus escapes with it's life. Many people remove the head of a moray ell like they do a fish, this is wrong and you are leaving a massive piece of meat behind on the head. Morays have massive jaw muscles and the skull is tiny, to it needs to be cut properly to use ALL of the meat from a moray, and there is a lot of meat on a moray, but expect a fight from a moray ell, if you attack one make sure you definitely impale it properly otherwise if it gets loose, it may attack you out of spite. However, once you've tried moray eel, you'll always want more. All eels seem to be really yummy creatures, despite their snake-like appearance/ Although I have not tried lamprey, but conger eel, and a few other species are incredibly delicious, and I am a westerner. And a Moray Eel is definitely a great feed.

Personally I do Not like Moray eels! Last one a ran into many years ago was off the coast of Caye San Pedro Belize- it blended int the coral formation soo well I didn't notice it until it came out to threaten me- this one was Big, green and a head like with a lion's mane floating about its head- v. terrorizing !

While diving at Catalina island in S. California my diving bodies and I observed interesting situation. Vertical underwater cliffs, about thirty feet high or deep, depend on your POV, had vertical cracks, up to foot wide. From those cracks were sticking out many antennas of lobsters. That was a reason of our trip. Of course, catching a lobster, during daytime, with bare hands, is very difficult, specially on rocky underwater cliffs. But those SOBs, got in cooperation with moray eels and as soon as lobster scenes danger, he’s.hiding and from same place appears huge head of green moray eel. Disturbance of lobster, serves as possible meal for eel. The size of its head, bigger than a football, needle like teeth, could be 1.5 inches long. They don’t have enemies there, that’s why, if you have trophies in your bag, detach everything that you killed from your gear, and move from it asap. The eel goes straight to your bag. And than follows attack. The eel pulls its pray in a cave to finish it and lobster getting his part of earned meal. Amazing co existence.

Sometimes eels will actively attack you even though you do nothing to them, their teeth are very sharp and you will lose blood if you do not wear protective gear.
