My son has schizophrenia, and was initially hospitalized, then took oral meds ( when he would actually take them) then we convinced him to start getting a monthly injection… but now a couple years later he refuses to get the injection or take any medication… it’s bad … the doctors won’t listen to me because he is an adult and can legally make his own decisions… but he can’t hold a job- now he’s homeless… and I’m at my wits end ….

I would say from my personal experience that the side effects from the meds are actually worse then having schizophrenia

My sympathies , in same situation my brown is suffering too diagonosed as well . But won’t take medicine he took medicine for 2 month and was very normal and good but now he is suddenly worse he just decided one day won’t take medicine and it’ came back . I pray for strength to u totally feel ur pain. I hope u and u son feel better

You may have to go through the courts and get power of attorney. The judge can also order a monthly injection.

Hi, so he is completely separated from you? I asked coz im curious to know if there were efforts to make him take meds.. were having same challenge sister suddenly doesnt want to take and it makes her act weird again even trying to get out of the house and just run away

My daughter has been in and out of mental hospital for 5 years now. She hears nasty voices and it’s almost impossible to reason with her. Unless we make a big scene and call the cops and ambulance to take her to the mental hospital she will not go, she rejects going to seek help. Yesterday she behavior was the worst, she told me that if I called 911 she would kill me, all these while yelling to the top of her lungs. We don’t know what to do!😢 We treat her with respect, she has her own room overlooking the peaceful woods, deer, lots of animals really. My husband and I are in our 60s she’s 35, I don’t think we will be able to deal with her too much longer…we love her, without us she would be in the streets! So sad for my wonderful daughter, we don’t know how to help her! 😢😢

Please get other family members involved. I don’t know where you live. There should be some kind of help available from the police.

Yes My33 yr old son is homeless due to schizo affective disorder with bipolar, and Ive got him at my house the last 2 days and trying so hard to get him new meds. Edit he goes back to the streets. He doesn’t recognize he has thus , as a mother I’ve now got gaurdianshio and trying to get him Gov assistance since he can’t work is awful at least in KS it is

they’re taking blood tests from me for the first time. I Was diagnosed with schizophrenia years ago & they never took blood tests but the doctor tells me the blood tests are to check for cholesterol and a couple other health checks I forgot but does that also check the blood to see if I’ve been taking my meds because I haven’t told them I’m detoxing so they think I’m taking my meds but I’m not
