Summary of the video: 1) Work done on the gas contributes to increase in internal energy. And work done by the gas contributes to decrease in internal energy. 2) "Work done by gas is positive in physics whereas negative in chemistry" This is a false statement. Work is a fundamental quantity and it is same everywhere. 3) If Work done on the gas is positive, then it implies that work done by the gas is negative and vice-versa. This creates the illusion stated in 2). Sir, please correct me if I am wrong. Btw this video was most needed, you cleared fundamental confusion.

Sir, I have a question related to the Charles's law and cosmology. From Charles's law, theoretically it is possible that the volume of any gaseous substance can be zero at the absolute zero temperature. So if we imagine a gaseous substance at absolute zero temperature, it will have some mass in a point (as the volume is zero). At this condition, can we consider the massy point of the gaseous substance as the singularity of black holes or the singularity during the Big Bang?
@dr.aryanjangir0711 ай бұрын
Charles's Law is applicable to gases within a specific temperature and pressure range. At extremely low temperatures near absolute zero, other factors come into play, including quantum effects. The singularity in black holes and during the Big Bang are concepts that involve extreme conditions where our current understanding breaks down, and we need more complete theories, such as quantum gravity, to describe them accurately.

Hello, my name is Aryan and I am a student in 12th grade from Sikar, Rajasthan. I have a question that I was hoping you could help me with. If we define a wave as a disturbance in a medium, then why do we refer to light as a wave even though it travels through space, which is considered to be medium-less? If there is no medium, there should be no disturbance and thus no wave. Thank you for your assistance.
@sunitajangir680711 ай бұрын
May be becoz of partical nature
@iuoyo470711 ай бұрын
Mechanical waves are defined as disturbances in a medium . In general wave is a phenomenon that can transfer energy and momentum via periodic variation of some quantity . In case of string , varying thing is displacement from original length . In case of sound waves , varying thing is air pressure . In case of light , varying thing is electric and magnetic field . Yes , electric field and magnetic field is varying and travelling as a electromagnetic wave . Thinking it without no medium is a bit tough even for Maxwell . He himself thought of EM wave as stress and strains through a hypothetical medium of ether . But in reality , there is no medium needed to vary magnetic and electric fields .
@shaanIITP11 ай бұрын
Bro light is an EM wave And EM waves don't need any medium to propagate And by the way light shows dual nature... sometimes it behaves like a wave and sometimes like a particle...till now its a dilemma Some phenomenon like diffraction polarisation can be explained by wave nature of light while refraction reflection and related phenomenon can be explained using particle nature

The simple explanation is in physics and engineering the main focus is on how much heat can be converted into work whereas for a chemist the domain of interest is how much heat can be converted into internal energy . An engineer would be more than happy to see as much of heat converted into work in contrast chemist studying molecular properties would want as much of heat converted into internal energy as possible .

In CHEM Work by gas -ve Work on gas +ve *∆U=Q+W* In PHY Work by gas +ve Work on gas -ve *Q=∆U+W* Formula dono subject mai alag tarike se likha jata hai apka practicle answer dono se same hi ayega.. Eg.Find ∆U if gas absorb 50J heat and gas does 20J work PHY :- Q=∆U+W 50=U+(20) ∆U=30J CHEM:- ∆U=Q+W U=50+(-20) ∆U=30J I hope u understand
@hcverma292811 ай бұрын
No need to remember any formula. You have given 50 J of heat to the gas. So you increased 50 J of internal energy. The. gas does 20 J of work on you. So the internal energy of the gas is decreased by 20 J. In the whole process the internal energy is increased by 30 J. Formula based learning should be avoided.

Can we say that in chemistry we deal with real gases since bonds come in picture (when bond number is 1 energy consumed is positive).in physics we deal with ideal gases,perfect gases not real gases where work consumed depends on pressure.and hence the direction of force.

Good Afternoon Sir, I am Netresh Singh, I am 18 I have a deep interest in physics It is said that to change the direction of velocity there must be a component of acceleration perpendicular to it, then how is velocity reversed if a person is travelling in straight line with velocity and acceleration in opposite direction then there is no component perpendicular to it.Why does it gets reversed?
@praneelbhattacharya953011 ай бұрын
Liked your question very much so felt like providing my understanding here. Before coming to the specifics, let's agree on what a vector is. So, a vector is a quantity defined by a particular magnitude and a particular direction, which is sometimes called the sense of a vector. Thus, we can make a proposition that: when we say a vector changes in sign, it means either it's a change in magnitude in an opposite direction (as magnitude has only two directions:it may increase or decrease) or otherwise ,it is a change in the direction or sense---- any one of these is necessary to make a vector change it's sign. In the first part it's true that in certain cases, such as uniform circular motion, velocity and acceleration can be perpendicular to each other and that changes only the velocity's direction. The speed remains unchanged, only the direction of velocity. The perpendicular (or normal) acceleration changes the trajectory, and that is all. It's because if you have a component perpendicular to a vector, it has no effect on your magnitude, so the change only is in the direction. This is the understanding that one must have for case 1 which you said. Now coming to your second part: say your initial velocity is 'a' m/s in x direction. Now if you have an uniform acceleration which is in the opposite direction in that same line, it means that with increase in time, the magnitude of your velocity decreases (as acceleration = change in velocity from final to initial state/ time). So if your velocity continuously decreases with time, there will be a particular instant when the velocity becomes 0 from its initial 'a' value. On applying further acceleration in opposite direction, the magnitude of velocity now will be negative! Equivalently this can be thought of as some vector which has an increasing magnitude in the opposite direction. So vectorically it means your velocity direction has reversed! Summarizing: the first case of uniform circular motion considers the vectorial change in velocity by considering a change in the initial velocity's direction only and not the magnitude- hence the acceleration vector is perpendicular to velocity vector. While in the second case, the acceleration vector lies anti parallel to a velocity vector and vectorially changes the velocity by changing the magnitude in the opposite direction. Hope that clears it! Regards, Praneel

Why can't we just argue simply that if work is done by the system then ∆V = V2 - V1 is positive because V2 > V1 So P∆V will also be positive. Similarly if work is done one the system then ∆V = V2 - V1 is negative because V2 < V1 So P∆V will also be negative. Please let me know about it because in this case there will be no need to consider the scalar product of Force and Displacement.
