@robwebnoid57632 жыл бұрын
@@greaterbayareahero1401 ...Yup, D'Antoni revealed the truth in 2017. According to him, Melo said he will walk if D'Antoni stays as coach the next season, probably because coach preferred to make plays for Jeremy now & less for Melo, so D'Antoni being the gentleman he was, decided to resign. He did not get fired. Sad that the Knicks was not on D'Antoni's side of the argument. Melo may have had a nice time the following season, but that was it, for the next 5 years with NY.

@robwebnoid57632 жыл бұрын
@@greaterbayareahero1401 ... If only that was so, Melo working some odd jobs. But unfortunately, he was pulled back into the league by Lillard & the Blazers. For me that was highly ironic, because back in 2019, there were 2 rumors of Jeremy going to Portland. You can still find those articles online. You would think 2 rumors instead of 1 would help make a rumor become true, but it did not. Instead, the next year, they acquire Melo, who was already out of the league at that time. I was a big Blazers fan since 1980, but more so in 1990-1992 when they won western conference. My favorite player of all time is still C.Drexler. So when the rumor of Jeremy started to appear, I was quite anxious & hopeful. But then that turned to disappointment when they actually got Melo instead. Who knew that 2 former Knicks teammates during Linsanity would get involved, especially when one of them had historical internal conflict for the other teammate? Because of that, I stopped being a Blazers fan, even after 4 decades. There were other previous reasons of me losing interest in Blazers, but the acquisition of Melo instead of Jeremy was the FINAL nail in the coffin. Today, Melo has since moved on to the Lakers. I try to stay positive, but these are one of those times that I don't really wish Melo luck, because him going to LA seems like he is still probably chasing a ring with Lebron.

This was special and sadly they let Melo dictate how the team would go. They should have made Melo adapt; bottom line, Lin is a natural leader and Melo isn't.
@edwinbetancourt39584 жыл бұрын
It was the coach, the coach's system, and Lin was the gel. In that order exactly. Lin was never put in a situation again where he could run the offense from the point as he was doing on this run. Had they moved Carmelo the run would never have ended. Yes, I know about the claims of Mario Chalmers this and that...the truth is that Lin was not playing within D'Antoni's system...it was Woodson's bullshit feed Melo system...so the result was Lin being out of his natural element.

Boy, to go from this, a D'Antoni at one of the brighter moments of his illustrious career, a decidedly happy, unbridledly optimistic D'Anoni, to the one just a handful of games after the return of Melo, a distraught, weary, defeated man, so despondent that he sees no solution other than to leave in the middle of the season... To go from the seemingly undefeatable specter of playing team-ball at its best to having one supreme egoist entirely undermining such promise and success. What a shame...

Agree. Even before Linsanity happened, he gave Lin a chance by talking to the Knicks organization about trying to use him on court. Mike even told Lin not to bring his car to NY just in case he gets booted, just as a way to save him some costs. I think we are all glad that Mike saw Jeremy at the end of the bench on February 4, 2012. Mike might have not told him to play & just kept playing the injured players or the ones exhausted, but he got Lin in. I think it was fate. All the other guards were injured, opening the window for Jeremy. That's like parting the Red Sea.

@robwebnoid57633 ай бұрын
The rumor was that D'Antoni was forced to quit due to Carmelo Anthony, of which D'Antoni finally admitted to this rumor as true 5 years later in 2017. This is one reason why Melo was never chosen as a player on any team coached by D'Antoni in the years later. And Jeremy did not resign with Knicks because the Knicks did not, or would not, give him an offer due to Houston giving them a poison pill offer first, which would have been very expensive for the Knicks. 07/13/24

@robwebnoid57632 жыл бұрын
Yes, if only that happened. Melo was the instigator for making D'Antoni resign. That's really messed up, when you mess around with other people's lives & careers instead of your own. And to make it worse, the Knicks actually took Melo's side, probably because they acquired him expensively & did not want to waste that money. Melo stayed with NY for 6 years & did not have much to show for it. He may have had a good year as a Knick in 2012-2013, post-Linsanity, but that's about it.

This huge Linsanity win by the Knicks over the Lakers & Kobe is why Kobe became a snotty bitchy teammate to Jeremy when Jeremy went to the Lakers a couple years later. Jeremy had been living rent-free in Kobe's head for those next 2 years. Jeremy stood up to Kobe finally when things got heated & they did not speak to each other for the rest of the season in 2014 & finally made up (buried the hatchet) one day a year later during a game between them when Jeremy was playing for the Hornets. 07/13/24
