I’m happy that the video brought back fond memories. I’m from N.H. but I’ve been working in S.W. Florida for the past 25 years. I’ll always be a N.H. boy though. 👍

For the folks from out of town. At the beginning of this wonderful video, note the white church steeple. This is the Old North Church and it was from this very steeple that the two lanterns were hung alerting Paul Revere, who was waiting across the Charles River, for word that the British Army was on the move by sea to go to Lexington and Concord.

Something I think worth noting: Notice that the buildings all along the waterfront have an apron/paved area in front of and along side of them following the water line. This is part of a 42 mile long waterfront bike way/walk way that starts in the Dorchester/Neponset River area south of Boston and wends its way all along the downtown waterfront, along the Charles River and northward to the Mystic river. To our great fortune, we had some really forward looking folks who, about 30 years ago, got a commitment from the city that any redevelopment of waterfront property would require that they build this bike way/walk way as part of there permit to do the development project. And this brilliant idea is still in force bringing people to the edge of the sea instead of being, literally walled off from the ocean. The folks responsible, both city and private, have our eternal gratitude. (See cynics? Government can do good and positive things.)

the long buildings pointing toward the sea at 2:09 are old warehouses. The smaller, lower ones date back to the 1840s and the much larger and longer ones date from the 1850s and onward.
@Davanthall2 жыл бұрын
those are apartments....at least they are now..
@wrightgregson97612 жыл бұрын
@@Davanthall yes, they are now condos and apartments, but originally these were all huge warehouses for holding goods coming and going on the ships that lined the docks along the waterfront. Most have been torn down and what you see now is a remnant of was. The giant granite warehouses are from the late 1800s and the lower former warehouses at the foot of the custom house tower and in the North End date from the 1830s and 1840s By the way, when I first moved to Boston in the late 1960s there was still a railroad that traveled along Atlantic ave.
