I know, it's an Amtrak California train of Northern California (San Joaquin or Capitol Corridor service). But the type of railcar used on Amtrak California trains up north are technically referred as "Surfliner" railcars. "California" railcars (8XXX unit series) are the earliest of the "Surfliner" railcars, introduced in the mid 90's. The "California" cab cars (8300 unit series) had a unique headlight configuration, in the shape of a square instead of a triangle. By 2005, all "California" cab cars adapted the triangular headlight configuration, just like the "Surfliner" cab cars to enhance better visibility. The horns are mounted on the rooftop instead of the bottom underneath the front end door. Amtrak California trains up north added the "Surfliner" railcars (6X6X unit series) in 2001, carrying the same exact railcar design as Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains. The cab cars (6960 unit series) carry the same triangular headlight configuration, as was the horn mounted in a compartment underneath the front end door. Amtrak California cab car 6965 (Point St. George) in this video is technically a "Surfliner" railcar, since it has the same design as Amtrak Pacific Surfliner railcars.
