Question. You received clearance to land only SECONDS before minimums check. How can clearance be granted that late?? I would have thought clearance to land would have been granted at least a couple of minutes earlier while on approach.

You need clearance to land before you touch down. You could receive your clearance below your minima. But like you said... this happens not very often and most commonly the controller will tell you he/she will give you a late clearance...

I think there was other traffic on the runway, which is why they only got clearance after that aicraft had vacated the runway

That is correct. Those are high speed exits so you can vacate the runway with a higher speed. With 90 degree turns we need to reduce our speed to 10kts... thats insufficient.... Now we can vacate with a speed around 30 kts. Thanks for your comment and question.

mightymkl Bedankt! Ik heb trouwens contact opgenomen met een piloot die werkt bij Transavia. Ik stelde de vraag of ik mag plaats nemen in de jumpseat tijdens de vlucht. Volgend jaar wil ik namelijk aan de CAE Oxford Aviation Academy. Nu hopen dat de vlucht geen trainingsonderdelen bevat.

Nice Videos. I like your work. I have two questions. First, isn´t Flaps 40 only selected in an Emergency Landing? Second, how were you supposed to know where to stop, without a Marshaller guiding you in?

Hi Markus, Thanks for your questions. Flaps 30 and 40 are the normal landing flaps settings. Depending on the "emergency" we are able to land with less flaps... most commonly in those situations we select flaps 15. Than the parking question. We follow the yellow markings towards the stand. And on the lefthand side there is a stop marking. It is outside this point of view. So this is how we know where to stop. Thanks for your questions! Greetings, Michaël

Beste Stan, Ik ga zeker nog ooit een keer lands op Groningen. Wanneer is lastig te zeggen. (Op het huidige schema nog niet...) Er komen steeds meer vliegtuigen met het nieuwe transavia livery. Whoopsadaisy lol didn't realise u were "the man" though the OUR APPROACH in the description box should have been a clue/giveaway ha ha What can I say.. #blonde :-) But now u can answer the question I had in mind before watching this video and others: My parents took a flight to PMI 3 days ago where my mom goes at least twice a year and has done so since the 90s and she said the landing was horrific and dead hard even though the whole flight had been one of the most quiet ones she's had in a while all the way down until the literally hit the tarmac like a tanker. She also told the flight attendant seeing people out: "U might wanna tell ur captain to go n practice some more" (stewardess: "Well there was a bit of wind going on") haha, but my point is: Is it true PMI has a difficult approach and challenging terrain etc where it is necessary to dunk it down like that or could it have been one of the tires maybe? It was cloudy that day but hardly any wind (apparently)?

Just to answer your question in general. The landing is one of the most difficult parts of flying. We (almost) always land it manual, because it is also the most fun part! (almost: because in some circumstances we will land the aircraft fully automatic). For every landing the conditions will differ. So no landing will be the same (even if you always fly towards the same airport). PMI is not really a difficult airport to fly to. The conditions (weather) might make it a bit more difficult. Then we have the flare. It is a special technic you need to learn. But because it happens so close to the ground you might sometimes be just to late. Than you can have a very though landing. (In general we land with a speed between 130kts to 145kts (240km/h - 269km/h)). We try to make a nice landing but sometimes (in general with all companies) we unfortunately don't succeed. It is good to know that aircraft can handle a very strong/hard landing. In some cases we need to do an inspection. Than experience counts.... but even the very experienced pilots can drop her on the deck. It is a very general answer, but if you have any other specific question don't hesitate. :) Greetings
