Yeah mine too. My hand would’ve looked like hamburger meat. Mine doesn’t even like his claws clipped. I take him to a groomer to do it. It takes two people to do it. One to wrap him in a towel and hold him down ( he weighs 17 pounds and it’s mostly muscle) and the other to do the trimming. They say it’s like giving Hannibal Lecter a mani pedi.

Tara Citti . Haha. Greavsie is a bit of a chunk too. When Greavsie needs his booster injections the vet comes to our house. They come in twos cos Greavsie has a bit of a reputation!! No joking. 🤣 Last time they brought a big towel to wrap him in so they could inject him. Well he took one look at this towel and freaked out poor boy. I had to pin him to the carpet so they could do it. He sulked for the rest of the day 🤣

We have 5 cats.... we switched to a feeder that they have to pull the food out and did awsy with bowls all together.... even their water bowls.... we bought them a fountain... any soft food is given on paper plates. We havent had problems since in any of them. And their weight has gotten better and they dont waste the food like they used to.... (they would only eat what was fresh but always wanted the bowls full) just happier kitties all around now.

Soft bristle baby brush, a few drops of pre surgical soap that contains chlorhexidene in it (can typically be purchased at any drug store) onto the brush, wet it with warm water, then apply in circular motions to your cats chin. Wipe away residue and left over suds with a damp towel. Kitty chin acne... gone. You’re welcome! PS: shaving will make it worse. More itchy (due to hair regrowth and skin irritation from the trimmers) which will lead to more scratching which leads to more sores. Cat owners know that cats hate e-collars... help avoid them by not shaving their hair where they aren’t normally shaved.

My Vet told me it's cat blackheads. They don't turn into acne as we know it. My method is a flea comb, the blackheads are dry and comb out easily. Vet said to use Stridex acne medication wipes. I wipe their little chins about every 2 weeks. Plastic bowls seem to accelerate the problem. I noticed a big difference just changing the water bowls to glass. Much Love to all the kitties 🐱 of yours. I have 4 of my own 😻.

Tey Tree -- all food should be fed on a flat plate.. Never in a bowl, whether plastic or glass.. Water in a glass bowl.. That is an exceptional cat who allows you to clip the fur around his mouth.. However, it is best not to traumatize the infected area any more then necessary.. Shaving the fur is not necessary.. You push that infection(pimple) upward and inward and you will have a major problem..

It's not recommended to shave of the fur, especially because the cat has small whiskers on his chin as well that help with depth perception, hunting, playing and balance. Also, it's not good to squeeze out the acne or scrape the crust off. Just rub the ointment and keep the dishes clean and fresh water daily.

Seems I am not the only one who thinks this “acne” might be sores caused from the type food and water dishes the cat uses. Glass and stainless steel are the best for animals to use. Plastic can cause many various issues let alone the chin skin sores from constant rubbing and friction. Edited as of 12/15/22- I’m happy to see everyone loves their feline family members so much, that you all liked and commented this video and my post. I agree with a lot of comments made about general cleanliness being important after eating and that anything can cause chin skin issues. Could be the cats super sensitive, or has allergies, or is going through puberty and like we all do at that time get spots! Lol In general if a cat has no one or another feline to help groom them, and they eat wet food and have their damp chin rubbing on a hard surface? I find that is enough to cause skin problems. Think about it, they are basically rubbing and pushing wet contaminates into their skin, so of course it could cause a problem. So I definitely agree that cleaning their chin properly after eating or having another cat that grooms them will help. And that certain material is better for food and water dishes! But sometimes it’s a medical issue we can’t fix, hence a vet appointment. Thanks for all the feed back!!

Yes, plastic bowls are bad. They carry/ hold bacteria. Switch to porcelain, stainless steel, or glass. Also wash them after each meal. It also seems to be a ginger cat thing. Neither of my black cats had this. I think their shin is more sensitive, just like red headed people. Also, once I switched bowls, I even had to take up the plastic place mat. ( BPA fumes, can also cause this). I think you could have done that w/ o shaving poor kitties chin. I'm sure that was painful w/ the acne. Just a warm compress first to soften the skin, if doing extractions, then yes, definitely the antibacterial solution. Either peroxide or alcohol is safe, or your vet will have some pads for this.

Yeah. Hygiene is important, even for animals. I see a lot of people letting their cats eat out of bowls with YEARS of caked food, saliva, and God knows what else 😳 😳 😳 The bacteria from the meat is problematic, in and of itself. Add bacteria fecal matter (from grooming), and 10 years of gestation to the mix and you have a recipe for problems.

My advice is to get a smaller clipper. My cat had the same issue. Your clipper would be fine for bigger areas, but it's tougher to control where you cut and how much you cut with something this big. Since you cannot always see the bumps under the skin, etc, it's safer that way so you do not hurt them/cut something open by accident and cause infection.

@@eyowcat Pleasure. My cat gets the black specs, but he also gets cysts and whiteheads (which are like pointy hard grains of rice). I've tried a few from Amazon and most of them are cheap-ish and some teeth broke or the battery sucked. I can show you the one that I got a few months ago and love if you'd like. It has a blue light on it and I didn't think that would be very important since I'm doing this close to the sun/during the day, but it's been SO helpful. Grab yourself some bikini area clippers. Work so much better and get a closer clip.
@patrickloiselle3767
@patrickloiselle3767 3 жыл бұрын
@@TL-um3xm Those can work but you have to be careful. They tend to cut more than a chin/small area clipper. You need to consider your cat's acne too. If your cat only has black specs and blackheads, I think your idea would work pretty darn well! My cat has blackheads, whiteheads and cysts. If I nick a cyst, I'm in for one hell of an infection and a vet bill most of the time. If your bikini area clipper works by allowing you to not get to the skin right away and to remove a bit and then a bit more, it'll work. There are cats that have red pustules that are bleeding. I think those may be even more fragile than cysts. Thankfully, my kitty doesn't have that. Since my cat has it fairly bad, the vet Rx'ed a benzoyl peroxide shampoo to leave on for 5 mins and a corticosteroid (please people, do not use your own corticosteroids on your cats, they are likely way too strong- saying that in general T L- not to you). It sucks but you have to keep at it as you would/did with your own acne. My cat is 90% clearer, but he still gets breakouts and he's 17. They say not to pop, but I pop his whiteheads and his blackheads. The blackheads become a bigger problem if I don't remove them and the whiteheads are hard like a grain of rice and he will rub his chin on something and pierce it... then, he has like a hard grain of rice sticking through his chin halfway in/halfway out. If he rubs his chin on a carpet, etc, it's an infection risk once again. He HATES me for about 15 minutes, but treats seem to make him forget lol I don't push too hard...if it's not ready to come out, a few more shampoos will bring it to the surface. I know this is like a book lol I have deal with this for 16 years or so. I just know how much people love their cats. They are family. Any tips and tricks are appreciated. For a cat that only has blackheads, I think your idea would work quite well! On my cat, with my shaky hands, I'd do something stupid.

@daniofmanytrades

I second this! Bacteria tends to build up MUCH quicker on plastic surfaces, making it almost impossible to keep clean. Plastic bowls should be washed after every single meal, and plastic water bowls should be washed even more often, so it’s more worth it to just switch to metal or ceramic bowls, which should be washed a few times a week vs multiple times a day to avoid bacteria growth. This is also why dogs, birds, mice, rats, hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, and lots of other pets should have metal or ceramic food and water bowls (this excludes plastic water bottles, which are air tight and don’t grow bacteria as fast). Anyways, I wish everyone reading this a fine morning/afternoon/evening/night, and I hope to have given y’all some knowledge!

He's a mostly white cat too so you could see his whole chin with dark flakes everywhere. Also, feeding them soft food with fish in it helps with the skin (omega 3 fatty acids). Usually caused by plastic food and water bowls or allergies. Definitely don’t need to shave a cat’s chin (unless that is what a vet has recommended). They can be prevented by using glass, stainless steel or ceramic bowls. And if they eat wet food, give your Gerardo’s chin a little warm water wipe after he’s done to prevent bacteria or fungal build-up. If he ever gets them, a baby toothbrush, some warm water and tearless shampoo mixed into water and then gently use the brush in circular motions. As the “acne” softens, it will eventually just brush off. Then rinse. 😸

Ahh that is the most gorgeous kitty😻 and you are so skilled at handling him... I think he likes the attention. The acne is so itchy so I’d say it’s nice for him to have you gently treating it. we are going through this with our 2 boy cats right now... exasperated at vet telling me it’s not acne but cat bite🙈 Ah poor babies🤗

I had a cat that had that back a few years ago and my vet told me to never feed or water my cats from plastic bowls. I changed to glass and it disappeared in a few days. My daughter recently adopted a cat that had it when she brought him home she started using only glass. It took him a couple weeks because he had it bad. But he’s ok now!!

I'm glad this was recommended to me! I actually have a kitty dealing with it right now and had no idea what it was. Initially I thought it was due to fleas, I found her when she was tiny and took her home. But now the fleas are all gone and she still has it. Definitely getting glass bowls next time I go to the store, and stridex wipes. Luckily she is extremely tolerant like this, as long as it's not an actual bath lol

I am NOT an expert, but most of my cats never had this. A vet told me a long time ago to wipe the kitty’s mouth after eating, especially long haired cats or cats that are old (older cats cannot clean themselves as well) or eat wet cat food a lot. Use a clean, warm, wet washcloth. Or a soft paper towel that has warm water on it. The vet also said you can use a little bit of Safeguard soap on the wet washcloth because that type of soap does well. Never put any harsh chemicals on the washcloth. And wipe off the soapy area with a clean cloth. Call your veterinarian about this.

My cat had this. I switched the food and water dishes to ceramic ones and make sure to wash them often. Also, I took a cotton ball and soaked it with witch hazel and applied this to the acne and it went away. The witch hazel works wonders. I used it in liquid form.

There are other ways to remove feline acne without traumatizing the poor thing. First replace the food dishes with stainless steel ones- these bowls should be cleaned every day. Be diligent about treating your pet, be thorough when checking for any spots that look dirty and soften the area with warm water and soft toothbrush, be gentle while brushing the areas. Use Stridex medicated pads- they were medicated, conven and were not too expensive. Best thing to do is not to let this disease go untreated and think it will go away by itself. I can get very bad and very painful and i have seen some cats lose their bottom jaw (removal) and sadly died from complications. Its not always fatal, and there are things that can & will help treat it. Hope all kitties& their owners good luck with your fur babies❤❤

It comes almost totally from using plastic food and water bowls. Glass bowls are better, but still get a film on them and should be properly cleaned with dish soap and hot water. As for the acne, peroxide works to kill the bacteria and clean it just like it works to dry up human acne. You can use a flea comb and squeeze the acne, but it might just make your cat hate the treatment even more. What you do and how far you go should depend on each individual cat, but it's not necessary to traumatize.

If you have food that are very dusty or crumbly like some dryfoods are then my cat got those too. It's like it got stuck and just started it's own colony on the chin. I switched food to more expensive one and that helped. Some brands are blackhead friendly according to me.

The black stuff is from glands that are about the cat's mouth. The very best and safest way of cleaning it is with coconut oil. You can also use this to comfort and heal soreness on the gums and anywhere on a cat's body, good for ear mites too but apply very carefully. Cats like the taste of it. I have also found that coconut oil is good for itchy dogs. I massage a little coconut oil and cider vinegar on my dogs twice a week and it stops itchiness and also fleas don't like it at all. Don't put vinegar on a cat though because it will make them sick.

It took me ages to understand what it was. My cat is black and had been scratching on it herself so I was afraid she had an allergic reaction or something. Then my vet told me it was "pimples". I just let them be most of the time. She's got it around her lips so it's hard to do something, but as long as she isn't scratching them I just let it be :)

What i did that worked wonders after some research was: 1. shave area if needed 2. cleaned with warm water 3. pat area with generous amount witch hazel on cotton pad 4. then add a tiny layer of bepanthol (baby nappy rash ointment) to lock in the witch hazel and keep it from drying out to fast as well as to prevent irritation to the area 5. (optional) taped paper towel lightly sprayed with witch hazel on cone to 1 prevent the acne from touching the plastic on the cone, 2 keep the cat from scratching and making acne turn into wounds, and 3 for maximum results. once i did this routine he lost his acne SO Fast! if you have any questions please let me know
