(HD) CrossCountry Trains @ Speed 2012 - 2015

Here we see the third in the series of my version of Trains at Speed UK, originally thought of by Rachelmatt. This is his idea, not mine. However, it WAS my idea to split them up into TOCs. This week it's CrossCountry, featuring classes 43, 170, 158, 220 and 221. Locations include Spondon (predominantly diverted intercity services), Grateley (again, only diverts), Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Dudley Port, Smethwick Galton Bridge and Solihull.

Now that electrification is growing apace on the railways there is an urgent need to see some initiative and ingenuity shown where the class 220 and 221s are concerned. A sub class for each of the latter should be created which would emerge from the building of new bi-modal power cars in the same style to be attached at either end instead of their diesel counterparts. Additionally these sets would have an extra one or two further carriages sandwiched in the middle. If extra carriages were manufactured at the same time then they could be inserted between the redundant diesel power cars and used on non electrified lines where passenger demand is rising.

Why can't Cross Country voyagers be as long as the virgin pendolinos? They travel for hundreds of miles and are on average 4 carriages long. Just doesn't make sense to me 😞

Yes! It was on diversion whilst the line through Tamworth or Burton-on-Trent was shut :)
