LOOK at these two ladies go! Two consummate performers showing out and having a grand old time doing so. The fun they were having up there fairly SPILLS off the screen. 1960, hunt? Wow, over sixty years later, their brilliance is undimmed. I always wanted to see a biopic done of Pearl, and I've thought for years, Latifah would be perfect. Anyway, thank you for posting. Wonderful that this is captured for posterity.

Latifah would be great playing Bailey, but she's beginning to age out of the role. She's 53 now. I'd like to see someone dramatize Bailey's forty-year marriage with the Italian-American drummer Louis Bellson.

I've done my best below. Some parts get too hard to follow. (D=Dinah, P=Pearl) Enjoy! D: Oh the shark has P: What? D: Pretty teeth, dear P: Uh huh? D: And he shows them P: Huh, Dinah? D: Pearly white P: That’s my name, Pearly May D: Just a jackknife has MacHeath, dear P: This man carries a weapon D: And he keeps it P: Where? D: Out of sight P: Well he’s scared of the law D: When the shark bites P: Oh, he bites D: With his teeth, dear P: How else? D: Scarlet billows P: Watch those billows D: Start to spread P: Oh, they start to spread D: Fancy gloves, though P: Oh? D: Has MacHeath, dear P: Well, the man’s a gentleman D: So there’s not P: Mmm D: A trace of red P: You watch out for the red D: On the sidewalk P: Uh huh? D: Sunday morning P: That’s a nice quiet morning D: Lies a body P: Mack strikes again! D: Oozing life P: Well, he’s not dead yet D: Someone’s sneaking P: Where? D: Round the corner P: Watch out Dinah! D: Is that someone P: Who? D: Mack the Knife? P: Or is it who? D: From a tugboat P: [can’t make it out] D: Down by the river P: Down by the river, don’t you know? D: A cement bag’s drooping down P:Well, watch out! D: The cement’s just P: What for? D: For the weight, dear P: Somebody’s in a bag D: Betcha Mackie’s back in town P: Sounds like you hit on a deal D: Louis Miller P: Who is this boy? D: He disappeared, dear P: Well he’s in the bag D: After drawing P: Money, money D: All his cash P: Ooh D: And MacHeath spends P: Watch out for taxes! D: Like a sailor P: You know these sailors! D: Did our boy P: Do what? D: Do something rash? P: Honey, he lost the cash! D: Suky Tawdry P: That’s a new name! D: Jenny Diamond P: I never heard of her! D: […?...] P: She’s a debutant-tay D: Lucy Brown P: That’s the one on the record! D: Oh the line forms P: Where? D: On the right, babe P: Let’s get in that line! D: Now that Mackie’s P: Yes, that Mackie! D: Back in town! P: Tell me more! D: Louis Miller P: There’s that boy again! D: Disappeared, babe P: I know the story so well D: After drawing P: […?...] D: Out his cash P. He’s just a tramp D: And MacHeath spends P: Huh, Dinah? D: Like a sailor P: You just told me that! D: Did our boy do something rash? P: Honey, he spent the cash! D: Suky Tawdry P: I still don’t know her! D: Jenny Diamond P: It’s getting too high for me to sing D: [?] P: It’s too high for you, too! D: [?] (Here it becomes hard to follow) Both: Now that Mackie’s back in town!
