Yeah! I have one myself? I have to say the video is pretty good on the HD-DVD discs. Regular dvd's play fine. But like one of the other guy's said some don't play with freezing and error messages. I have heard of rot but it's weird how even an unopened dvd could have it?

I guess it was early with new media and players. Always some issues even with blue ray.

The problem is primarily from discs produced by Cinram, which is long out of business. And one of Cinram's primarily customers was Warner Home Video. That said, the other manufacturers, notably Technicolor, have had a small number of their discs suffer failures, too. Basically, be very careful when considering Warner HD-DVDs unless there is a good return policy to cover for unplayable media. Another group of discs to be cautious of are those DVD/HD-DVD combo discs, where one side is DVD and the other side is HD-DVD. Otherwise, you're generally likely to get good working discs, though there is always a chance you'll run into one with problems ranging from freezing at certain spots all the way up to a total inability to load and play. And I've had that happen to some Blu-Ray Discs, too, though the occurrence is relatively rare.

It makes sense now? I thought the machine had a problem? But how could it play regular DVD's with no problem? Unfortunately? I still haven't been able to find any Hd- DVD's that can play all the way. What they do play? Look fantastic.

I did updated the firmware on mine to the last version. You can see if your player has any updates, might help

so what looks better HD DVD or Blu Ray ? and is Alien,Aliens ,Terminator 1 &2 available on HD DVD ?

I would have to google those. Which one was better….well I believe they were the same just Sony won the battle so hddvd stopped being made
