I just wanted to get this up fast so no editing. Southern Pacific 4449 going 60 mph in the Columbia River Gorge. I had to wait 3 hours in the sun today but I got to meet some nice people so it was worth it. Great view of Mt Hood in Oregon. If you like my videos, rate, comment and subscribe to my channel (Canon Vixia HG20)

It never fails at stuff like this (steam excursions, etc), there always seems to be a railfan latecomer, or two, or somebody who decides to change positions at the last possible second and walks/runs in front of everybody else's shots. And who would run in front of a fast moving train like that? One slip and it's all over. Excellent video, and a great runby!

As railfans they should have known better. They heard the bells from a nearby crossing, and even if they hadn't had time to cross the tracks at the established crossing, they were expecting a train and should have crossed to the other side sooner. It's a superb spot for a photo; their timing was off. Falling down as an adult isn't the same as scrambling to one's feet as a child. You can react quickly, but usually not as quickly.

@WPRR1 When SP 4449 was in active service back in the 50's, she operated passenger trains from LA to San Francisco. Since the line was usually very foggy, she used the A200 horn because it projects it's sound further and does a better job of warning people in fog when you can't really see the train coming. Now, she only uses her Leslie A200 horn as a back-up when the whistle doesn't work or when people get too close.

All the people bitching about the title, can anyone appreciate how well framed this shot is? Starts on Mt. Hood, zooms in on the track, zooms out as the train approaches, train goes by, Mt. Hood perfectly centered in the background.

@@ErvansTrains We live by the tracks. We have to cross at a blind crossing, and it is a double track. There is no warning signal. We recently improved the county road, at our own expense on the south approach, but our neighbor, who owns the property beside the north approach will not allow us to cut the bank back on his property. He does not believe that the crossing is dangerous. He never has to cross it. We, on the other hand, have no alternative. Believe it or not, we still get along with the neighbor.

It reminds me of Mt Rainer. A gorgeous back drop and setting. That train seem really huge, beautiful, and beastly at once. Do they still make trains that big? Certainly not as artistic. The way that thing came into sight around the bend was enough to make someone freeze in their tracks (and stumble on the tracks).

I found your channel when I put "trains" in the search box. I must say after watching an hour of your videos that they are some of the best produced I've seen. You use good equipment so the colors are natural and saturated, obviously your camera is on a tripod so the panning is smooth and there's no shake, and you do a better job framing than most. As a photographer myself I have only one suggestion; as much as possible be on the sunlight side of the trains, you get better colors that way.
