Perhaps a cheese play is a risky maneuver that can be countered if scouted early. 6 pool rush is a type of cheese. Proxy hatchery inside your wall-in is a type of cheese. Cannon-rush is a type of cheese, ect...

My main definition of cheese would be using tactics that are unintended by a unit or structure's purpose. These would include things like proxy structures (except pylons, as they are designed for that), static defence rushes, 6-pool/extremely early all-in (basically, if your early attack requires the use of your workers), and there are likely others. Why isn't the nydus attack cheese? It's because it's DESIGNED for getting across the map, behind enemy lines, or into a walled off base.

Great series. Perfect example of pros with new tactics at their disposal. Polt dominated with mine play then Snute figured out how to exploit it. Finally, Polt countering Snute's early aggression but to no avail.. I think if this was a best of 7 or 9 it would have been way more epic of a series.

I think what he meant was that Snute was basically chasing Polt's medivacs around the map rather than forcing a fight in any of Polt's already crippled bases. Snute was maxed out and still had income while Polt was working with next to nothing. Snute COULD (note: I am no pro so I say could and not should) have split his army up and used corruptors and lings to chase the medivacs while using his main ultra/roach/infestor army to harass Polt and force the gg. TL;DR Multitask not tunnel vision.

15:07 epic infestor fungal HD missed:( Snute pulled back because he knew that he just destroyed the enemy's force in his bases with those epic chained fungal, so he won't be forced to commit the a base trade in the terran's main base, which is extremely hard.

Thors, mines, siege tanks, marauders, hell even marines with stim, Terrans have tonnes of tech options to take out ultras. Unless you meant to say Terran don't have TO tech to fight ultras.

I really lie Snute's decisions to pull back his forces to avoid base racing with Polt. As you said, going for a base racing with Terran as Zerg is almost never a smart idea. Anyway, thanks for the post and have fun in Vegas, HD!

Normal MMM is mostly Tier 1(Medivacs only are T3 however they're relatively cheap for how useful they are! Ultras are Tier 3 MR , so don't expect that a Terran will always win, especially if there are a couple of infestors along with the Ultras: lock the marines down and say hello to the offer 3 marines for 1, dear Ultras !

what works depends what league your in and what that particular player has trouble with. my zvt is actually my worst matchup. hellbats are annoying me. what you can do to find out how to beat zerg is either read what they qq about or offrace and see what opponents do to beat that strat. gl

Polt was great with the macro skills, but never progressed any units. While zerg came running in with end game units with full upgrades. You don't stop that with a handfull of marines.

Yeah, I really have grown to hate the term cheese. It seems anything non-standard nowadays gets labelled as cheese. Constantly dropping MM or hellbats into enemy bases with near-impossible to catch medivacs? Not cheesy at all! Punishing a walled-off terran with nydus worms with perfect roach timing? That's so cheesy there's mold growing on it! I can just imagine years from now, getting an extra pair of zerglings instead of a drone at the beginning of the game will be called cheesy!

Haha, so Polt being stuck on Bio because he heavily committed to the requisite infrastructure is bad strategy? And at 18:34, when he sniped the infestor pit, ultra cavern and eventually the spawning pool that was, what, just luck? Or strategy? Or tactics? Strategy is defined by the overarching goal with respect to resources available. With that, which is the actual definition, I think Polt and Snute had pretty solid strategy. PS. That begs the question, what IS cheese in your opinion? I agree that game 4 was not cheese, that was a straight up a push through the front door. But if not a ninja nydus INSIDE the enemy base is cheese, then nothing is. Oh and btw, the dropship play can not by defenition be cheese because 1, it happens in every single terran game, and 2, Terran HAS to do it. In high ELO you basicly can't win without doing it.

Well, the only reason terrans need to drop so much is because blizzard balances the game based on what they want to see. They love the drop-play of terran, so when players started getting smart, and placed static defence to prevent it, they buffed the medevac to get in and out super-quick. Terrand don't NEED to drop, but with how much blizzard loves drop play, you'd have to be a fool not to use them, if you have the apm to manage them.

It's that kind of thinking that kills creative play. Thinking outside the box is not cheesy, it's strategy. Some strategies are risky. You can't just reduce the game to players using the safest strategy for any one matchup, and hoping to be slightly better than their opponent. How much fun would that be to watch??

Anything outside the meta is risky. Thus its cheesy. If your nydus doesn't work, you lose if the other play plays as well as you. The meta is defined in a way to win the game by doing all the small things better than the opponent and using it to gain a large advantage. Anything with too much risk is cheesy because they rely on catching your opponent off guard to win. drops aren't cheese because they are the meta and they are extremely low risk. however a doom drop on 2 bases is pretty cheesy.
