I got my Sony MV1 about 3 weeks ago, unfortunately this demo does not show how good MV1 is, it is the most comfortable headphones ever and it sounds phenomenal, great resolution, forward mids, deep base, great highs, it is a new golden standard, basically it's probably the best headphones ever created, you have to have a good reason to buy anything else, I love it, the only this is that it's frequency response is not flat and for spoken word (youtube, anime, TV programs) flat headphones are still better. Sony did it, it's amazing.

Which pads are which with the 490 Pro? Do producer pads come first and then mixing pads or is it mixing pads first and then producer pads?

Sennheiser 490 pros aren't great for bass but they certainly have clarity and air. If you like instruments, then 490 pros will be perfect.

I own the hd 560s (same as 400 pro) and the 660s2, and I would like to add few things which aren't very evident in the demo. One thing is that the 560s lack resolution, whereas the 660s2 have excellent resolution. The 660s2 should technically be the best out of all of them for most balanced sound, and for long and comfortable listening sessions, but for pure clarity, the 490 pro would be the winner

Yes your right clarity is a bit lacking on the 660s2, i have it but their vocals while placed in a narrow sounstage manage to have their own place separeted from the bass and treble, my 490 tend to mix everything together even with that wider stage. The 660s2 have better fuller, taller vocal that surround me like mist, but sub bass is inexistant only guitar will have more texture than the 490 pro because of that warmer mid bass. The 490 pro even with mixing pad have much more rumble and punch when low notes are played but it is leaner than the 660s2. Actually i feel more low bass in the 490 than my dt 1990 my ears must be weird. The 660s2 is less clear than the 650 but the vocals feel even closer to my face and a bit more immersive so they are all good at something

@@luffygear5362 i don't think it has more resolution, i have both. The 660s2 have less treble and upper mid so it sound thicker, darker. Bass is tiny bit more punchy but barely than the 650, my hd 650 is from 2024 so it is brighter than the pre 2020 ones. I would say the 660s2 is way more sensitive than the 650 so volume have to be much lower to match the 650. The midrange of the 660s2 feel even more close to my face and taller than hd 650 i like it a lot for norah jones. Sometime i want the clarity of the 650 and sometime the very close warm inviting vocals of the 660s2 but bass extention on both are barely present but it is what my ear think you can have a different opinion i respect that

I own the hd 400 pro and to me they are crazy bassy for an open back, the bass is almost as good as my JBL ER2 earphones which are tuned by harman maker. I heard 560s are sharp but to me hd 400 pros don't sound sibilant at all. edit: its possible that my ears are used to sharp treble hence I don't find them sibilant.

And, people have made afraid of that 8k peak on the DT 1990 Pro. I have a DT 770 Pro X LE as my main closed-back. But, for my open-backs, I don't know between HD490 Pro and DT 1990 which one is better in mid-ranges, treble, overall clarity, resolution, and imagining.

I hope you will try the ifi Audio Zen DAC 3 and activate XBASS on a different headphone, specifically the DT family, because it is sensitive to the source.

Sennheiser sounds like Beyerdynamic for poor people..............900 PRO X and MV1 for me. BTW I own HD660S2 it's muffled mids spoil everything, HD660s2 might be the "worst good headphones" ever created, also I used to own HD400PRO, it has very low resolution, this demo does not show it but the resolution is really low, lower than on 100$ HD280 headphones. After owning every Sennheiser's headphones the only one is still worth buying is ironically Neumann NDH 20 (Senn owns Neumann brand now), the rest of Sennheiser's line is meh. Recently I bought Aune AR5000 and it sounds just like HD 600 but better. It's a sad day but I have to say it: BB Sennheiser.

You are right, the resolution of the HD400PRO is not as good as the other headphones in the video, but what you are talking about is “resolution” and what we generally call “resolving power” is actually shown in the video, especially when switching from the 660S2 to the 400PRO, it will be very obvious that the 400PRO's speakers do not have enough resolving power (translated from deepl).

I currently have both dt 900 pro x and hd 400 but mainly for studio use. The hd 400 is quite good for hearing errors in a track cause though it lacks body (sub and bass needs some focus), this helps detail in mids (clipping, distortion etc.) without it sounding overall too brittle or harsh. Its still an ok sound signature for enjoying music but I can easily imagine for hifi use it might not be for everbody. If I had to subjectively describe its sound signature; reminds me of my first pair of headphone when I was a teen using a walkman (soundwise in the best possible way), back then that sound was everything to me :)

mv1 murders everything except the senns in which 400pro seems acurate and neutral, 490pro the same, more wide but with a bit of magic lost, 660s2 more magic but still scratches me in a weird way like 660s(which is crap). mv1>490-400 pro>660s2>... 660s2 have the upper hand of magic tho. 900 prox sounds like music is plaing in a cave

agree, I ordered 900 tho it looks like it is the best for spoken word, it's very forward and alive, we will see thought, but definitely MV1 is way better than the rest, HD660s2 is the worst, I own it, it's a joke, these muffled mids are comically bad, can't listen to it for more than 10 minutes

The HD490PRO pads will not work on top of the HD6 series headphones, the fasteners on them are different

Not at MSRP. The HD 660S2 goes for $600 but often dips to $400. The 490 Pro is $400 if you don’t want the version with the travel case, since it is from the Sennheiser Professional devision, it is much harder to find them on discount.
