I’m getting the HD560s…heard that it’s neutral and works really well with EQ. While gaming and doing some content creation work, the neutrality and soundstage helps but when enjoying some music, probably gonna tune it with EQ and hopefully it doesn’t need too much tuning like my Epos H6 Pro which just sounds very harsh and bloated bass for basically anything. Biggest expensive mistake of my life.

I went from Hifiman Aryas to the 560S (had to sell the Aryas because of moving costs), and I was blown away by the detail retrieval of the 560S. Amazing value for money. Perfect for gaming and movies with a Dolby Atmos license. Definitely the most neutral headphones I’ve ever heard, and that makes them so good for gaming and movies. I highly recommend a DAC/amp for them. I use the iFi Zen DAC V2. Powers them really well.

Thank you for this outstanding comparison. These must be the the three most bang for the buck headphones and obtainable for a wide audience. I love the way you differentiate between Hi-Fi (analytical, true to the source) and audiophile (more pleasing, less detailed). Lets hope that this does not cause a flame war.

Actually the term hifi is complementary to audiophile. I think he means monitoring/analytical versus music enjoyment/hifi use. The term audiophile applies to modern music as much as older music. Less detailed is not the same as less pleasing, it also depends a lot on what types of genres you listen to or how you use a headphone to able to make a good choice on what kind of headphone you will prefer. But generally this means more headphones if you listen to a lot of different genres, or if you only want to have one, something at a much higher price category.

J. Gordon Holt and Harry Pearson (and the many others of that cohort) are rolling over... I've been watching the evolution of this. We can change and make up and kind of discussion we'd like. Hi-Fi and audiophile from the earliest days had been synonyms; what goes in is exactly what comes out, nothing added or removed, with the ultimate objective being an exact, or at least palpable, experience of the recorded event in your space. What the audiophile was seeking in loving audio was the high fidelity (highly accurate, truthful, faithful to the original event) reproduction of what ever audio thing was being reproduced. It's certainly not that simple, and there're a lot of bits and pieces to that. The language, and the world, of audio reproduction has altered. It's gotten a lot broader and inclusive of things that otherwise wouldn't have been been included. Some for the better, some perhaps not. Though whichever, audio kit is better now, with value being off the charts compared with what it had been, than it's ever been. So, I'm going to call that axiomatically a good thing.

I never understood why people say HD 650/6XX is better for music "enjoyment", like it's an universally true statement. Because since they are uneven it would wholly depend on which type of music you are listening on them. I consider a headphone perfect if it doesn't add or subtract anything from the music. How do you feel about them in general? Also for gaming?
@rrtind
@rrtind 3 жыл бұрын
@@TroublezAhead00 Hi there. Generally (i.e. for sound quality, comfort and durability) I think the HD 560s are great for the money. Like many things in life, an item’s strengths also have their counterbalancing weaknesses. For example, the HD 560s are rugged and durable (a strength) but also look and feel very plasticky (a weakness). The HD 560s sound clean, precise, detailed, analytical and extended (all strengths if you like this) but can also sound less warm, less soothing, less forgiving of poor recordings, and can become fatiguing during longer listening sessions (all weaknesses if these things are unappealing). The soundstage isn’t too narrow and the presentation doesn’t just feel like it’s all in your head (a decent strength) but at the same time the soundstage isn’t massively deep or full either, which leads to an average ability to place sounds in their correct space within the soundstage (potentially a weakness). But it’s important to consider all the above in the context of how much they cost. I think the performance is excellent for the money, as long as you like their sound profile and presentation. One other thing… I quite like that the cable plugs firmly into just one side (the left side) of the headphone, which keeps the cable nicely out of the way and it makes wearing a wired headphone feel less messy. For gaming, they’ll do a decent job. Would say don’t expect miracles. These won’t be the best for gaming but they won’t be the worst either. If your priority is more on listening to music (especially hearing the analytical details in music) and less on gaming, then these are a top buy for the money. But if gaming is more the priority, then take the advice given by DMS in the video and invest in a proper and well regarded gaming headphone. Hope this all helps.

I have solidstate and tube amps with hd6xx...the bottlehead crack tube amp sounds fantastic! I heve a really good solidstate amp and hd6xx sounds great with it too. Alright so I currently own the HD560s and the HD650 (basically the 6XX), and have owned but given away the Tygr 300r. In the most simplest of terms, the HD560s is my favorite of the three by far (it's not even close) because of the unbelievable clarity. Everything just sounds so good in them. The HD650 is a relaxing listen, but definitely not as clear as the HD560s. That's not to say it isn't clear, but it sounds like there is a thin sheet for lack of better words over whatever you're listening to compared to the HD560s. The Tygr 300r were the most warm and had a lot of bass which I just wasn't into. It's funny because before I got into the whole audiophile scene, I felt like I needed a lot of bass and now it's something I consider not very nice. Comfort wise, I really like all three. I could wear any for 5+ hours no problem. Btw, I should mention I listen to music using Amazon HD tracks with a modi 3 / Asgard 3 stack.

But before u tell me the model i will tell u that my Favorite Headphones are HD 660s and Sundara but for different reasons , with those 2 i am fully satisfied because they are different and so good on what they do . For example SUndara are the kings on Seperation and Clarity on highs nothing can compare from all the other headphones that i have , BUT Sundara do sound Metalic some times and colder with Soundstage that some people will like this big presentation and some people that like Closer in your head vocals surrounding by instrument's will choose HD 6 series. HD 660s on the other hand they have the same detail like Sundara but not pushed to you like Sundara its there but u have to listen carefully because Vocals on HD 660s are closer to you and the Kings on vocals are again HD 660s , also Imaging on HD 660s are better than Sundara pin point direction is easy to understand on HD 660s i guess smaller soundstage helps with that. Also HD 660s dont have the seperation and air between instruments that Sundara have... the instruments on HD 660s blend together like u hear the music in Real life ... To put it simple Sundara are like DIgital era that someone has take all the instruments clean them and move them far from each other, On HD 660s are smooth like analogue sound and instrunmenst sound like they are on the same room with U .... I hope i helped u and if u want comparison with other Specific headphone u can ask.

If I needed a mic I would have kept the PC38X but since I have a Blue Yeti Mic I chose to stay with the HD560s. Need a mic? How well does the 560s EQ? Since it's so flat, seems like it would be a great headphone to be able to adjust with EQ to the music style you are listening to, or optimize for gaming. Is this the case?
@gerard3797
@gerard3797 4 жыл бұрын
EQ works well for making small adjustments and removing peaks etc in treble or adding loudness control if you are listening at low volumes, but it will not change the signature of a headphone. Better solution is to buy a headphone for different use cases, so monitoring/analytical, gaming, enjoying certain music genres. If you want a headphone that comes closer to do it all you really have to look to something like Focal Clear, Hifiman Ananda, etc.
@jasonfranciosa
@jasonfranciosa 4 жыл бұрын
@@gerard3797 So, I disagree. A good headphone driven by a good amp can easily EQ up or down about 8 DB without issue. An 8 DB difference from neutral is going to change the sound enough to where it can be pretty close in signature to other headphones. I currently have the Hifiman Sundara's and they EQ incredibly well. If you have something like a DT 1990 and you want to bring the treble down to a HD 650, it's not going to work because the treble is SOO over bloated, but if you have a neutral headphone, within 5-8 db adjustments, you can def change the sound signature enough based on what you want. The question is, how well do the drivers respond to this? If the 560s drivers respond as well as my Sundara drivers do with EQ, it really could be the jack of all trades. I can't wait to get my 560s, but, it seems to be significantly delayed by almost 2 weeks now since it was "released"
@gerard3797
@gerard3797 4 жыл бұрын
@@jasonfranciosa Thanks, looking from your experience that might be a very interesting question indeed. Which hardware or software do you use for EQ and which Dac/Amp? And did you compare your EQd Sundara's with something like the Clears or the Ananda's?There is a lot more of course to sound than frequency response alone and my experience with big EQ adjustments (especially on hi-end gear) is that it introduces a level of distortion and unnaturalness to the sound typical audiophiles (including me) don't want. But maybe that depends also a lot on the quality of the DSP/EQ used and is less apparent on budget gear. From my experience it just makes a lot more sense to start with something that is close to the Harman curve (for headphones) instead of a lineair response, but I just don't think that is possible at a budget price level without any serious compromises. From what I have seen something like the Clear and Ananda are a much better starting point with better drivers (also in terms of dynamics, depth, imaging, soundstage/scale, punch, etc). I will receive the RME ADI-2 (with 5 band parametric EQ) pretty shortly, and was planning on ordering the 560s just for monitoring/analytical purposes (and maybe later on the Clears or Ananda for enjoyment), but will be interesting to see your experience as well.
@jasonfranciosa
@jasonfranciosa 4 жыл бұрын
@@gerard3797 That's where the quality of the driver comes in, You can't massively EQ without distortion, but again, up to 8 db is what I find no issues and can really change the frequency response of a headphone. With that said, all the other properties won't change (Resolution, tambour, speed, clarity, etc.). The Sundaras EQ'd with Peace EQ really made them much more enjoyable for me and handled it excellently as the driver is very capable. As for a Harman target frequency response, there are plenty of headphones tuned to the Harman target in the "Budget" space, but remember, all tuning is preference. The Harman target is simply a estimated "ideal" target for the average person. Each individual will have their personal preference. The question is based on the HD 560s's linearity. If your base line is neutral, it gives you a lot more flexibility to EQ within 8 DB or less vs. a frequency response that is already elevated or tuned unnaturally, which, if you wanted to correct, may become distorted with EQ as it's way off. Given Sennheisers reputation for high quality drivers, I expect them to handle it well, which, if they do, could make them the best bang for the buck in terms of versatility at their price point, being able to adjust tuning pretty easily and quickly with Peace EQ depending on what you're using them for in the moment.
@gerard3797
@gerard3797 4 жыл бұрын
@@jasonfranciosa Which DAC and Amp do you use with the Sundara's? The stock tuning of any headphone is not based on EQ (or an elevated level in some way as you put it). So claiming that a linear/flat curve is easier to EQ is just not true, because a flat curve sounds far from natural (for headphones at least). It's basically the outcome of a sum of the used materials, design and size of the driver components (so diaphragm, voice coil, magnet, venting, damping, etc.) and enclosure (ear tips, air volume, etc.). So again the Harman target is a much better starting point than linear and much more close to what most people perceive as natural. The big problem however with budget headphones is that a full range frequency response and smooth harman target is very difficult to reach, without any clear drawbacks in certain area's including sound, detail, stage, dynamics, etc, and especially in the treble department. This is also where the preference in tuning plays a big part, because at that price point you will have to chose the headphone with the drawbacks you are least annoyed about. These drawbacks all become apparent with different music genres in different ways. EQ can only potential change the frequency range drawbacks, but within small limits and with increased distortion/loss in clarity, but it does not impact all other drawbacks. So if you want different experiences and emphasize just buy a few different headphones at that price level or just invest in something around 1k price point. That will give you a completely different level of experience.

I have just bought the HD560s and your description of these headphones is very close to my impression. I'm not an audiophile by any means and was only looking to improve or add a different experience to my AKG 240 MK II. I liked the overall listening experience of the AKGs already - un-hyped, even, mellow but with enough detail, silky highs and lovely wide soundstage. But for certain types of music like metal, industrial or even funk etc I wished it had more energy and bite. I tried and didn't like: AKG k371 ( they sounded very good, but closed back design is not for me - too claustrophobic, underwater feel among other complaints ) and Beyer DT990 Pro ( great comfort and built quality but waaay too harsh for non-critical, casual listening. It's more of an analytical device for music production :-) The DH560s are exactly what I needed - a bit more definition, punch and excitement than my AKG offer while retaining the same overall sound characteristic ( to my ears of course). In the whole process I also realized how awesome my 80 EUR AKGs are! 560s ( for more than twice the price) can only occasionally match their soundstage and treble quality. And on many records the AKGs still win. I had to really wrestle with myself whether I can justify spending 180 EUR when I have a great pair at home already. But heck, I deserve the finer things in life! :-) The Senns have breathed a new life into a lot of my favourite albums. But the AKG are not going anywhere. Finally, thanks for your reviews - they helped me notice and seriously consider the 560s.

I relied in large part on this review to pull the trigger on the 560S. Being retired and on a very limited income, price vs performance is key with me. I snagged a pair of these directly from Sennheiser, refurbished, for 100 bucks, with full factory warranty. That, combined with generally glowing reviews of these cans, convinced me that I couldn't pass on the opportunity. They're to be delivered in two days, but I can't try them out until the interface cables I ordered are delivered next week. Can't wait!! I intend to use them solely for music/movie listening on both my TVs. My main entertainment system is controlled by a Yamaha HTR 75W per channel receiver/amp. They will interface with my bedroom system via an RCA splitter connected to the internal variable-output analog DAC/amp in my second TV. Fingers crossed that this all works as planned! The sound signature is VERY neutral and bass light, these are God tier headphones for gaming and great for music too IF u like VERY FLAT reference tuning. If not then you'll only love them for gaming

I have to say, if you haven't heard the way an HD6x0 sounds on a Valhalla 2 Tube Amp with stock tubes, you're missing out. The way the stage opens up is something to behold, one of the best presentations of staging I've EVER heard. it's a bit dry/airy, but if you want to really hear what the real potential of the stage is on these headphones you'd be missing out if you didn't give it a shot.

The HD560s is better than the HD650 according to RITINGS. I use headphones mostly for gaming and I have a SteelSeries Game dac Gen 2 that includes a ESS saber quad chip and it is HiFi certified. What do you think? Will the game dac Gen 2 be good for the HD560s

You bought up pc38x twice but can you elaborate why it is better than tygr and 560s?does it have better imaging than both? Better soundstage?
@soraflame66
@soraflame66 2 жыл бұрын
The hd560s is actually about 5-10% better for competive gaming than the pc38x, better imaging and treble for footsteps aka "directional audio" pc38x are only better for general gaming because of the mic, very slightly cheaper price, and more bass for immersive gaming than the 560s but for a pure competitive advantage the 560s are slightly better.

Amazing vid 🔥 Thoughts on the HD560 vs TYGR 300R vs DT 900 PRO X as it relates to the technical aspects - which ones would be less likely to aggravate tinnitus for those who suffer from it on a daily basis? (Of course volume is important but what about from other aspects, treble, bass etc that would cause less fatigue when playing FPS or listening to isochronic tones?)

Can we get a comparison between the tygr and pc38x for gaming to better explain why the 38x is better? And maybe also the 37x vs 38x to see if it's worth an upgrade?

Thank you for the review. It seems the 560s may be closer to my Grado Rs2E in transparency. I love the imaging and timber on the Rs2E. I have the HD 600 and the HD 559. The 600 is a pain to drive with amps. It makes me put them away for long stretches of time. Come to think of it, I have never married myself to the HD 600. Just too picky of a headphone for me. On the other hand the HD559 is really interesting to listen to across all the styles of music I like. Rock, Jazz,Classical, folk, acoustic blues, electric blues. My reference system is Mcintosh Amp, preamp, eq, and speakers. I use Headroom and JDSlabs CMOYBB headphone amps. I have had an IFI Zen dac/amp, Lokje PS 20 , Schitt Magni Uber 2. The Headroom which is 13 years old and the CmoyBB sound better to me with both Senns and Grado.

@@pwn3426 nope, for from true. I own the tygr300r, pc 38x 560s and many others. 560s is the BEST for competitive gaming out of these 3. The pc38x and tygr 300r are neck and neck. Tygr300r may have ever so slightly better imaging than both but the BASS RUINS THE DIRECTIONAL AUDIO for pure competitiveness. Keep in mind the tygr 300r are still FANTASTIC for competitive and very fun immersive bass and if their bass was NEUTRAL it might even have outperformed the 560s for competoive but that's not the case and the 560s are simply better

@@soraflame66 Like i said I own the 560 and I disagree 110%.... You ever hear of equalization tho? lol. The tygr have quite a bit better imagining and turn the bass down that most people claim is more than it actually is. I do not find the BASS on my TYGR EVER interfere with my tracking anyone down step for step in EFT which is the only fps game I play. My 560s are ok but can not compete with the TYGR man I do not know what else to say. I go from the 560s to the tygr and I feel like i enabled a cheat.

@WoundrousMindTrick They need some brain burn in like every headphone. What i like about them they are both warm and bright at the same time. They don't have forward vocals raping my ear. Their tuning follows the fletcher munson curve which makes them good at low volume. Most mid forward headphone have very weak lows and highs at low volumes. You need to push volume to get balanced sound out of them which is fatiguing af.
@Zjombie

the problem with those other headphones is the mic attached to it... I looked at those for a while, but I cannot stand that giant fixed mic sticking out that I do not need. I think I wlll go for the Tygers. I know this video is old, just looking for a new pair of headphones.

I agree, they are as narrow as HD600, but less warm, so it makes them sound even tenser. They are a little bit less, but still "nasal", but much more muffled, without being smoother. So while I love HD600 and HD660S, I don't get HD6XX and I'm thinking about selling them. The only argument I would see is if there is a huge sound difference when using better AMP. I have ifi ZEN DAC.

You plug this headphone to one of the most expensive tube amplifiers or solid state amps maybe you can change your mind. But most of HD650 lovers love the warm of HD650 midrange like vocals are phenomenal. I listen to HD650 with outstanding or well records and the voices are so so amazing.
