I am the same in machining engineering - i dont quit easy either and have reaped the benefit of it. Love your chanel content BTW ..dont fully understand your field at all but find the diagnotic and repair process captivating as its so similar in process to my area of expertise. Thanks for taking the trouble to post the vids Erkin

Can you make a video comparing different SD cards repairability and quality? I would like a buyers' guide to decide which SD cards are the best purchase when keeping in mind the worst case scenario. I know keeping backups is best practice but its also good practice to use good quality, easy to repair SD cards. I assumed full size SD cards are easier to repair than micro SD, but some new designs have only a chip below the connection and the rest of the card is just a dummy. Please compare different brands of the both of them.

He doesn't seem to make videos anymore, but Krisfix Germany has repaired a lot of pads. I don't think quite that many. Then again he fixes geforce 4090's not $20 SD cards where the data is the only thing that matters.

I have a Flash Drive that was playing music I had stored on it. Suddenly a jumbled up noise that sounded like someone tuning the radio dial. I found several corrupt audio files on the drive when I took it from my car and put it in my computer. Windows did a scan on the drive and found problems then corrected them. So it says. I was not able to delete the corrupt files until the scan by Windows. They kept returning and trying to play. IC issue? unknown!

Sometimes I have more than one case running in multiple adapters. And cases may have multiple chips, just in case one goes loose I can always check the recording on how it was marked and find it even in a pile of same type NANDs. That top compound is thick, simple scratch like that does nothing to it

When you did that first poke at the chip, and I couldn't see pads but saw the balls "rise up out" of the pcb... My instant thought was _oh f&$k!_ - then I looked at the video timeline and realized you didn't (have to) go down that road. If it was me, I don't have access to recovery tools as I only do repairs in my spare time now and don't get much recovery work, so I'd have to fix the pads. But only if the customer firmly agreed to pay by the hour first. Going down the rabbit hole leads to a lot of learning, but if you're doing this for work/income, you also have to strike a balance. Especially if you / your employer won't get paid if you don't succeed, and other work is getting backlogged because of it. Although of the customer is ok with it, you can sometimes keep such projects on the side, and pick it up during appropriate times instead of when other less uncertain-time-sinkhole jobs are waiting.

Rabbit hole cases are the most fun, but yeah just like you said there has to be balance in order to keep the lights on :)

I always thought when I used the SD card that it is too thin, too flexible. I always though how the solder balls are not popping out ? Question, what can be done if solder balls disconnecting from the chip itself and not from the PCB ?

Hi I purchased some micro sd cards from eBay from a seller I bought from previously, he said he was unable to format them so I can see his photos and can confirm it’s of the seller, these can’t be formatted or wrote to, I am not sure if they are faulty or have a protection on them. I have tried to format them using laptops with many operating systems all unused machines that are not connected to the internet, I also tried an android phone. Do you think in your opinion they are faulty or protected? They were not expensive but are large sized so would be useful. What do you think about these? Thanks

These are all grounds, so just for bolstering. Inner rectangle has all the needed connection. Even then, not all of them are connected. Still lots of work. I just did a case that will be posted soon where I actually had to join them as pads ripped not only on PCB but on the NAND too

Hey Erkin, Here is a soldering question for you for the newbies in the audience. (Me) So when you remove the chips, I see that you go over the chips with solder, but then remove all the solder balls from the chip with the desolder braid. Why is that. Thanks Jerry L

I can understand the "sending the wrong device" problem. Yeah come to think of it I have 3 hard drives and only 1 works. I think they are all the same. One of them I don't give a shit. One of them I wouldn't mind having recovered. It has pictures of my childhood dog on it. It just depends on what the rough cost for that was. Honestly 95% of the data on those drives I don't care about anyway. While it's a semi new drive, it has my accumulation of data from around 1995 or so. lol Interestingly enough, those drives were the last ones I ever bought. I only use SSDs now.

Maybe they twist and bend their SDcards when they're idle-fidgeting and that's what ripped so many pads// Honestly I thought SDcards were completely solid like Microsd cards. I guess I should stop fidgeting with mine 🙊

Here's how I handle them: Roll up my sleeves, grab a cup of coffee, bust out the relevant specifications, and dive in with the idea that I'm not gonna quit until I understand the problem enough to point the way to a solution. Don't fall into the trap of not acknowledging there is a problem (effect) just because you don't have a solution (cause).

I am with you on that. When I first sat down to watch the footage from this case I had some doubts that maybe it was something in the settings that wasn't selected. I went back to the shop, and got the card to retest. All 3 programmers that I use (PC3000, FE, and VNR) had same result, so it was not the settings/contact/contamination in the adapter. You know sometimes we get jobs that clients don't even know what's on the unit. Suspense of it being something important is enough for them not to want to part with it. So many "Bitcoin millionaires" are popping up with hopes that the drive they found in their storage has some coins they used to mine way back in the day.
