Zach was initially in it for the bet, but when he saw just how beautiful and vulnerable Lainey was he realized it was wrong. He gradually fell in love with her and that's why he was pissed when his friend betrayed him. But, then she didn't even give him a chance to explain. But, after realizing that Zach was the only one who truly cared about her she forgave him. "She's All That" is a modern retelling of "Pygmalion" and its done very beautifully.
