LOVED the video and all the info, so much so I've already seen several other ones about Flevoland (and the Delta Works)! That is all really impressive! btw, I'm brazilian from a part of the country that was occupied by the Netherlands back in the 1600's and that had the city of Recife chosen as capital. fun fact: although it is a coastal city, Recife is also located below sea level. Unfortunately, once the portuguese got back control, they destroyed pretty much every sign of the invasion, going as far as demolishing bridges and filling canals originally built by the dutch. Had history been just a little bit different, maybe we would still have a small piece of Netherlands here. Love your videos!

The four diesel engines that pumping station 'De Blocq van Kuffeler' was originally equipped with, have been replaced by electrical engines in 2008 en 2009. The pumping station has been automated during this renovation, to allow remote operation from pumping station 'Wortman' in Lelystad.

Railways are an integral part of the land they pass through, so interesting facts about the geology and history of settlements trackside and the countryside the trains pass through helps understand how the railways developed and the country as a whole; this is one instance where the saying "Less is more" does not function and should be ignored.

The Netherlands is very beautiful, no question. I like the notes about the surrounding area. I also like very much that they stay still and don't scroll across the screen. 🙂 Cool view just out of Amsterdam Sloterdijk, too! My wife and I travelled into Amsterdam Centraal on Thalys in 2017. Sadly we didn't stay long. We walked around the canals for a few hours and then caught an NS train back to Schipol Airport and flew to Zurich. I think we travelled on an SLT. I wasn't paying much attention because I was not yet a CHDR subscriber...! I always look out for the Thalys when you drive near the HSL and around Amsterdam. Thanks for the videos!

The level of the narrow border lakes along the old coastline is kept between 0,30 m and 0,05 m below NAP (NAP being approximately the average sea level), instead of a full 3 m, otherwise you could not sail into the historical harbors of the old coastal towns anymore.

It's a wonderful quandary. Do I watch the action or read the commentary? With the history up on Centre screen I mostly managed both. The background to the megapolder was fascinating. It's truly said that god made the world but the Dutch made Holland. As regards the nature reserve, the concept seems to me excellent. I can see the grounds for the controversy but on the other hand you wouldn't want lions or crocodiles near occupied areas. The whole story here is of a bold, stubborn people who won. I only hope we beat global warming. John Warner. Australia

I see. It was started 1918 and took 75 years to complete. I visited Netherlands in the summer of 1964 and the map was very different. I've been puzzled over that apparent memory lapse on my part. This resolves it. It really IS changed, a lot from, 1964. Hawt dawgie! My brain is not fried by old age! I also remember our route from Amsterdam to Denmark driving over the Dijk. I don't remember maps showing aby other practical route. I suspect that has been closed off for "reasons". (I used dijk because driving over the dike carries a few connotations in current American English I won't go into. My pun-ny mind got me again.) Flevopolder was mostly to completely uninhabited in 1964. Had there been a practical highway from Amsterdam through Flevopolder we'd still have taken the drive over the dijk. That was a thrill ride. The waves were pretty heavy that day. Whether or not it was usual our windows on the car got thoroughly but gently washed. It's amazing how experiences add up over more than 3/4 of a century. {^_-}

@@CabviewHolland The quality issue seemed to be related to compression. There were significant artifacts for example near the catenary wires. Maybe the bitrate isn't high enough?
@CabviewHolland
@CabviewHolland Жыл бұрын
Yes I noticed that too. I film and edit at the highest possible bitrate. KZbin degrades my high quality recording way too much, it really is very painful to notice that. Especially my movies, with so much motion, require a way higher bitrate than YT renders...
@CabviewHolland
@CabviewHolland Жыл бұрын
I looked closer and I too noticed a very poor quality, worse than I have ever seen before. I did some testing and it turns out that YT is compressing to 20mbps now, instead of tne 70-80 they used to. This of course is way, way too low for pictures with so much motion. I predict that YT is doing this to be able to offer higher quality/bitrates only to Premium subscribers in the future.

I was going to leave that one until the winter, and use the French layout at an exhibition before Christmas. I'll have to try hard to get it finished as the replacement. Wild animal problems in the US occur in a variety of situations that have to be dealt with. Wild horses. Wild pigs. In my area are White tailed deer. I have 5 on my property. The 'Wieringermeer' polder in the northwest is an official part of the 'Zuiderzee'-works, and it was drained in 1930, so two years before the 'Afsluitdijk' was finished. If you don't count the small 'Proefpolder Andijk' (an experimental polder to prove feasibility of the project), drained in 1927 but only 40 ha in size, the 'Wieringermeer' might rightfully claim the title of the fist completed polder of the 'Zuiderzee'-works. De closure of the 'Amsteldiepdijk' between the island of 'Wieringen' and the main land of 'Noord-Holland' happened even earlier, in 1924, making the 'Afsluitdijk' the third major project to be finished. The fourth part that came to fruition is the 'Noordoostpolder' in the east, which was drained in 1942, some fifteen years before 'Oostelijk Flevoland'.

At 50:53, just as you enter Asdm Station, that tower must have been an old Signal Tower. Is this a historical site? Just like in Maastricht? Anyway, another fantastic video!!!

Thanks! That signal post is the highest in the Netherlands and a monument. Hope they convert it into a B&B someday..

I liked today's video. I had never been on the world's largest artificial island before. It sure was BIG... or, LARGE. And, it didn't seem natural. Yes, it felt artificial. So did the name FLEVOPOLDER. I would have named it: SEABED. I don't believe in misleading the people. Why name a SEABED FLEVOPOLDER? Anyway, gracias por tu video. RT sends, Puebla, México...

De flevoland provincies are NOT an island !!

This is NOT the standard way to go to Zwolle!!The standard way is keeping out of the polders..That way is shorter and this video would be shorter..And thats why this video is failing in quality..Its to long..

I've noticed on some of the stations the second hand on the clock looks a bit like the Rolex watch second hand! I would _speaking about me, no one else, I can't do that,_ like more information about the signals and those strange horizontal lights before and after bridges? I believe the idea behind keeping herds in one place is to protect them from poachers! Are there any Willow trees (like seedlings) left on the island? 😃🚋

You can find almost all signals in the playlist Dutch Railway Signals. The explanation can be found in the pinned comment of each film. The double white lights flash when a train is approaching, warning railway workers.
