Avalanche Reviews [Try4ce] For the capture, I used my modded SNES mini, which outputs a sharper image than older SNES. Out of curiosity, I looked at the same shot in A Link to the Past on my original system, and on "standard" mode, you can't even tell that there IS a texture on that floor. "Picture" at least makes it visible. So yeah, I can imagine, especially for older SNES systems, it would make a big difference in other areas too.

Hey guys, thanks to you I dropped over $500 into having RGB perfection... stupid sexy scanlines. Anyway I don't know where this information would be most helpful but I noticed that the Framemeister DOES NOT play well with HDMI ports that have MHL. The picture will cut out and never return when the resolution changes on the fly (ex: using the 480i test with the 240p test suite rom) It will also cut out if you turn the console on and off too quickly. You should see the "Output Link" light flash repeatedly and the picture just won't come back. All these problems vanished when I switched over to another HDMI port that doesn't support MHL. Please let me know if this is old news (Google didn't have any hits) or if I'm mistaken. Oh and thanks for the hard work guys, you two and the game sack guys are becoming fast favorites.

Some TVs, like my LG, don't turn off overscan in Game Mode. But putting it in PC Mode, not only turned of any kind of image smoothing, overscan and interpolating framecrap, it also turns on true RGB. PC Mode also helps on older Samsung TVs, on HDMI 1 only. Some TVs don't even have those settings, mostly it helps to rename the input to Game or PC.

The 6th generation consoles don't output a 4:3 aspect ratio, it uses what is called DVD resolution you can fix it by selecting Normal2 in Screen Set. The 240p test suite can help but in it's options disable 240p scaling to 480p (to get proper sizes in DVD resolution) then go to linearity. :3

Just got my framemeister last week. I find Game2 to be my favourite image mode. Does Linear/Bob deinterlacing which looks a lot more reliable than Natural or Picture which does some sort of adaptive deinterlace, often missing some places. You get a bit of flicker on 480i stuff, but using the veritcal scaling option to smooth it over helps a lot. I'm actually amazed how good everything looks even with just composite.

It will probably vary a lot based on the type of 4K, as there are several resolutions that qualify. A quad HD TV would probably be the best for a Framemeister, as it is simply 4x the size of 1080p, but I can't be sure on that as I don't have a 4K TV

Hey guys....BTW, Thank you for all the useful information you guys have provided over the years about the XRGB MINI. I have one now!!! Buuutttt....I'm seeing some things that only you guys might be able to explain. The game in the screen sometimes goes out for a few seconds, and then come back. The sound is there, but the picture disappears. Also I notice that this does not happen to all the games I play. Is it the cart, the console or the upscaler? and also.....while I was playing around with the settings, I inadvertently set the image in a way that I dont like. And I can't seem to find a way to change it back to default settings....as in as it was when it came out of the box. Would you guys be able to guide me through these issues? Thanks a whole lot and keep these very helpful videos coming.
@mylifeingaming7 жыл бұрын
[Try4ce] The sync drop you are experiencing may be related to resolution changing. This is a problem common on Saturn, and to a lesser extent, PS1. Often it is simply the title screen being 480i, but the gameplay is 240p. However, it's much worse in a game like Chrono Cross or Silent Hill, where the menus are 480i. Unfortunately, it can't really be helped. This is a consequence of the Framemeister correctly handling 240p (devices that incorrectly handle 240p as 480i may handle the switch more seamlessly). If that is not the issue, then I'm not too sure what it could be. As for settings, we strongly recommend downloading the profiles from here and loading them up for each system: firebrandx.com/framemeisterprofiles.html At the time we made this video, save/load functionality didn't exist yet.

Hey T...I just realized this. Why did I even bother buying a Framemeister...when all I needed to do was to fork out about the same amount of money...for a nice Sony or Olympus19" or 20" PVM Monitor?!? Ofcourse I have to get the right hook ups and all....but this just dawned on me. I have the room for it too! And with a PVM monitor, i get the most authentic image, resolution, no lag...and most of all....None of these sync drop issues!!! I'd like to know your thoughts? Thanks Again...you guys have been very valuable.
@Austin5329 жыл бұрын
I strongly recommended Movie mode for 480i games instead of Natural. It may look nice and colorful at first but it just oversaturates the colors to the point where you start to lose details. If your are using a Samsung TV, setting the Input name to PC will reduce lag even more than Game mode but you may lose some picture detail. Also, It is now recommended by the community that Sharpness be set to 0 no matter what as even setting it to 1 creates artifacts.
@Sixfortyfive9 жыл бұрын
There are also video calibration slides you can find on the internet and output to your TV over HDMI/VGA if you don't want to spend money on calibration software. Example: www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ Finding "neutral" or "optimal" settings on modern TVs can be kind of complicated, though, as those settings can even change between different input sources. My new Sony Bravia, for example, has to be set to 50 sharpness for HDMI sources but 25 sharpness for component sources with native-res 1080p content. For 480p component sources, 50 seems to be the medium setting for that as well. It would have been difficult to narrow this down without some kind of test slides to run, and it's important to get the TV settings right before you fiddle with settings on external processors like the Framemeister. Would you guys be interested in covering similar topics for the XRGB-3 or other scalers if people could supply enough info for you to do it justice?
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
Sixfortyfive [Coury] This is all very true. I'll be using the calibration tools you recommended for myself since I don't own the DVE stuff. We'd be very into doing similar topics for other scalers. Now that we have these different levels established, the sky is really the limit. Although we started with focusing on the Framemeister itself, the idea has evolved to be more about RGB in general, so that opens a ton of options for us. But, as I'm sure you can relate to, this stuff can get very expensive over time. But we'd love to (and plan to!) get into other scalers and even just hardware in general associated with improving video quality.
@ArtemioUrbina9 жыл бұрын
***** Just keep in mind that if you calibrate using a different source video levels might be different. This variation is true for analog signals, but not serious. However, if you use a PC keep in mind the difference between NTSC/7.5 IRE setup and digital (0 IRE) video levels. This only applies for video material, game consoles are capable of full range color output.

Hi. What's the difference between component cables and RGB cables? Don't they both separate the colors? Where can RGC cables be bought for Dreamcast and retro consoles?
@mylifeingaming8 жыл бұрын
+SevenDeMagnus [Try4ce] Yep, they are very similar, but they are different ways of transmitting the signal, so they aren't the same thing. Totally different signals. Older systems don't support YPbPr, which is what is normally meant by component. Check our video descriptions for links to cables stores!
@SevenDeMagnus8 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks. RGB is the way to go and I thought composite was the pinnacle of retro, save for VGA which I think is higher than RGC or are they the same quality? I hope and pray the people who invents the RGB mods and cables for retro consoles all come together form their own company, a RGC retro consortium maybe with Kickstarter, create a cable to rule them all (all retros will output RGB maybe extracted the colors from composite if that's possible) so there's no more modding and can output to VGA coz' I think a good affordable VGA PC CRT monitors have the same quality as a a BVM (or they are not) so that with one cable, all retros output to RGB and can use the Light guns for all retros. I think they can do that with a small FPGA (maybe two small ones for the sound) chip inside the cable that knows what console is playing, extracts the colors and stuff off the composite cables (even the sound is made better). Better yet they can form a consortium or a company pool the resources and actually create an affordable easy to setup (with that one cable to rule them all RGB) 480p to lower than 280p gaming consoles, CRT TV pixel, geometry perfect and color perfect (what the developers intended on their development monitors) that is capable of having not scanlines or scanlines- honestly scanlines make things darker- developers probably wished they filled up all the lines, had more resolution in their games. I think this consortium this company would revolutionize retro gaming. Maybe combine PAL's advantage on color with NTSC's fps/hz. And this retro gaming TV works with all light guns. My Life in Gaming could initiate these RGB Kickstarter, bring all the talents together into one giant company:-) God bless. Rev. 21:4

I have a Samsung LED TV and switching to Game Mode has the TV adjust the brightness depending on the scene which can get really annoying. Also switching the Framemeister to passthrough the HDMI actually causes my AverMedia not to show the picture?
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
UnboxedTV [Try4ce] You should dig deeper into your settings to find "Dynamic Contrast" or something like that. The shot in the video is also from a Samsung TV, so it might be in a similar spot. I'd be very surprised if these features couldn't be disabled independent of Game Mode. I've had capture card issues with HDMI passthrough if the video signal is not the same as the Framemeister's output. For example, a PS3 game might boot at 720p, but the Framemeister is set to 1080p, so OBS won't display it at the right size. PS4 and Wii U (not sure about Xbox One) always output 1080p if you have the system set at 1080p, even if the game is running internally at 720p (or some other resolution).
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
UnboxedTV [Coury] I had the same issue with my samesung and it turns out it was the "HDMI Black Level" that was causing it. If it is set to "low" it will brighten and dim, and if its set to "Normal" it won't do that.

can I save the settings as presets so I don't have to change the settings all the time, because that should be a must on something that expensive
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
Fernando Chiquelho [Try4ce] It remembers unique settings per input, but if you want to make unique presets for various systems using the same input, then sadly not. This is why we're just lazy and use the presets most of the time, which produce very good results on the systems that we use. 85% of the time I'm on "Game" auto-scaling and "Picture" for the image mode. I just change those to "Video" and "Natural" for 480i sources, so it's a pretty quick and simple thing using pre-existing presets.

In particular, my NES, SNES, and Laserdisc player keep displaying on and off for a second or so, then the screen goes completely black until the input is turned off. Music will play while the screen is black. I’ve messed with the sync settings. Turning off auto makes the screen blink on the SNES, but it fixes my nes. Any suggestions? FYI, I already updated to 2.03. (Maybe I should reformat my SD card and try again?)
@mylifeingaming4 жыл бұрын
[Try4ce] Is that the latest firmware? The lastest fixed some 4K TV compatibility issues. That's odd, never had sync issues with those systems on it. I haven't tried Laserdisc, but VHS does have sync issues sometimes.

My Life in Gaming I went on Micomsoft’s website, but there wasn’t a link to 2.04. I heard it was on their Twitter, I’ll try looking there later. Thanks for replying, and so fast! I will say, The framemeister made my brother, who hates old things, like Genesis Games.

My Life in Gaming sadly, I don’t have a 4K TV.

My Life in Gaming I fixed the issue, by putting the output of the framemeister to 1080p - 50p. I live in the US, so I don’t understand why this fixed it, but it did. Just happy. Thank for responding, if you have any idea of WHY this fixed it, I’d appreciate the knowledge. Oddly enough, this worked without tweaking on my brother’s 4K Tv: go figure. Anyway, you guys are one of the two channels that I follow vehemently, the other being The Retro Future, you should check him out sometime, if you haven’t already. Thanks for everything!

Did you have issues with the HDMI passthrough? When selecting "Full RGB output range", colors are obviously better as I am using a PC monitor which only have RGB. However, the screen blinks intermittently when I am playing GTA V on the PS4 (using the Limited Range output range removes this issue). The weirdest part is that it seems to do that only with GTA V, PS4 menu works perfectly and same applies to other games I have tested so far...
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
[Try4ce] I don't recall any pass through issues. I usually don't use full range because it can screw up captures on my capture card sometimes.

What is the best TV for->xrgb framemeister? LCD or Plasma?
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
+bruno soldier [Try4ce] Plasma is basically phased out of the market by now, as far as I know. True videophiles swear it's the best, but I've never seen the appeal, personally. Even though later models are supposed to be better at avoiding burn-in, I still suspect they're not good for gaming, especially retro gaming, because the black bars on the side will cause the center of the screen to age faster than the sides. At least, that's what I assume, based on what I know of the technology... never owned one myself, but I've just not been impressed by the ones I've seen. Maybe they weren't setup in the best way. I'm a weird sort of casual videophile who really likes the look of LCD, ha.
@doomisforu9 жыл бұрын
+My Life in Gaming True that plasma have the aging problem it so much better the lcd/leds, not oleds note these new oled tvs have burn too. Also must people do not know that led/lcd have burn problems too it just not as strong or fast. though you can use over scan on the plasma to help reduce burn on plasma tvs.

+My Life in Gaming Burn-in was never as big a problem on a good plasma as it was made out to be. I have a 2009 Panasonic 50" and it's amazing. Most of the time, Plasma that the average person saw were not calibrated...and so they tended to look "darker" than LCD's. But a calibrated Plasma set is awesome. I'll also note that most Plasma do a better job at retro gaming when compared to LCD's. Input lag is almost non-existent and colors look great. Sadly, the last plasmas were manufactured in 2013. I have heard that new OLED model TV's are looking as good or better...but I'd always put a plasma before a standard LCD or LED.
@doomisforu8 жыл бұрын
+Rig I know, the St60 has a high amount of Input lag in 50ms To 80Ms with gamemode and 100ms to 130ms without it, but still love it no ghosting. I will get an OLED when they are cheaper though. Love my Pan, just wish I bought the higher model for lower input lag, and higher blacks, but did not know they were discounting them until about four months after I bought it they Said it.😢

Hello MY Life In Gaming, I have Neo Geo CMVS console. I’m having a problem with the screen flickering and jittering. I went to the menu in my Framemeister and changed the SYNC MODE to Off. That didn’t work I’m still having the same issue. Is there any other option you can suggest to me to try in the Framemeister settings?
@mylifeingaming6 жыл бұрын
[Try4ce] Is this one of the ones that was on Alibaba earlier this year? I don't know much about them. I think I heard that something was off with the sync on them, but I don't know the details. I think they can be fixed to work more correctly, though.

Hello. Thanks you for your videos. I bought the mini xrgb two weeks ago . I can not have a " crt picture/ crt effect " with my psx consoles, ps2 and xbox . I am desperate. Either there are two line styles , or image is not at all like a beautiful CRT image. I have a samsung tv led . it's really possible to have an similar screen than monitor CRT TV ? I have a doubt...
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
+Jean-Philippe Lincé [Coury] are you outputting video at 1080p? If so, enabling the scanlines at that resolution tends to look off. Now if you're displaying at 720p, the scanlines look a lot more correct. However don't fear, our good friend the Pixel Purist, had made a whole slew of profiles for the framemeister that, when loaded, will display scanlines correctly at 1080p. Those profiles can be downloaded here and include instructions on loading them, etc www.firebrandx.com/pixelpurist.html
@castlevanialos9 жыл бұрын
+My Life in Gaming thank you for the answer , but I have already tested profiles and that does not give much . as I played with PAL consoles, it seems that the only output resolution for me is " 576p " , the only good , right? But the picture is not at all like a CRT tv tried it with a friend and it was "fabulous", i want "the same picture" on my TV LED samsung.. very very hard to obtain. I 'm away .

[Try4ce] You referring to the picture of the girl? If so, that's Persona 4 (one of my favorite RPGs!). If you're referring to the next shot, with the little yellow bird, that's The New Zealand Story, specifically the Mega Drive version (actually kind of a bad version in my opinion!).

on the Pixel Purist site, he has the profiles to be downloaded... if the best I have for Dreamcast would be Svideo would I use PS2 profile or Xbox profile? I have a VGA adapter but I dont have a way to change it to work with the RBG mini
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
+Doug Plummer (douglie007) [Try4ce] I'm not sure. Unfortunately, loading profiles to inputs they weren't designed for doesn't seem to work like the "Load/Select" option seems to suggest. I would look at scaler and zoom settings for another profile, write down the details, and recreate it on the S-video input (which shares settings with composite). My best guess would be to look at interlaced settings for GameCube or PS2. Don't forget to set the picture mode to "Natural" so that it deinterlaces.
@DougPlummer9 жыл бұрын
+My Life in Gaming Thank you Try4ce, what do you use for your dreamcast input? not the setting but to get the video to the framemiester? I didnt know if it would be worth getting a SCART for it.
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
[Try4ce] We both use the Toro VGA box by Behar Bros. It allows VGA or SCART output in 480p. Dreamcast will not output 480p over a native SCART, but it works going through the Toro.

Great video as always guys!!!! Do you know the difference to GAME MODE and the input name PC/ PC DVI in Samsung Tv's? They say the lag is less in the second.
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
Marcelo Ramos [Coury] I've heard this was the case with earlier Samsung's, but it no longer is. Have you seen anything saying that this is the same for newer TVs?
@marceloramos29399 жыл бұрын
***** Instead of Game Mode, I changed my input label for the PS4 and retro consoles (via Framemeister) source to PC. I have a Samsung TV, but I think the input lag is much better than Game Mode.

This is an amazing series you guys a doing. It pretty much single handedly convinced me to get a Framemeister, and your videos provide so much helpful information. I'm wondering tho. Is the Framemeister still "supported" by Micomsoft? The newest English firmware seems to be almost 2 years old.
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
Captain N [Coury] I've thought about this a bit recently, and its hard to say. I think they'd be crazy to not continue supporting it. I've heard rumors via cryptic posts over at shmups.system11.org forums that there is another firmware in the works that could bring profiles, but who knows.

Captain N The XRGB-3 is still supported (it just got a substantial update in the past couple of months, actually, and you can still buy it new from them), so I doubt Micomsoft has ditched the Mini, which is a newer model.

Hey guys! I just got my framemiester today. Each video output isn't saving the settings. For instance, composite carries over into s-video. How do I get it to save each output differently? Thanks!
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
David Devlin [Try4ce] I forget, but I think S-Video and composite might share settings, maybe. However! There has been a recent update to 2.0. This adds a function for saving profiles to the micro SD card, which is super handy! Definitely do that! If you want some good profiles for RGB inputs, check out this site: www.firebrandx.com/pixelpurist.html

I sometimes have issues with being able to use options on my framemeister. Sometimes certain options are greyed out and unusable and I can't really figure out way, any clue?
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
+RamuneGaming [Try4ce] Usually it's because some setting is selected that negates the need for those settings, or overrides them. For example, if Zoom is on, then Screen settings aren't useable. Turn Zoom off, and you can choose them again.

Hey guys great videos. Question in regards to the Framemeister. Any idea if this is compatible with a 4K HDTV? I recently purchased a RGB to HDMI converter and it is not compatible with my Sony 4K HDTV but is compatible on my parents Sony 1080p HDTV. Any help would be great!
@mylifeingaming9 жыл бұрын
+Michael Hart [Try4ce] Neither of us have the right sort of screen to test this with, so I'm afraid I don't know for sure. The Framemeister's highest output resolution is 1080p, so 4K won't benefit it, but hopefully it would at least work!
