I dont agree. I think social media is a great way to meet people and then carefully know them in real. I have a few friends I meet online and then in real life from different countries and... I've even met my husband in that way (of course we were just friends) and then in real life and we have been together for 7 years. I think the best is balance. Nothing is 100% better or worse than the other way.

Hard disagree as well. I am one of four couples in my current social circle that met online and have been married several years now. Now, none of us actively went seeking a significant other online, it just happened that we all become good friends through regular interaction, visits and so forth and the chemistry was there. :) I think it really is just pure chance whether we really click with someone or not!

Your last story reminded me of a similar situation I had about 20 years ago. (I'm super old now, Lindas). Matched with a guy online, I wasn't feeling any sparks but he was an "artist" like me, so, I thought, we'll meet for lunch, and worst, maybe I'll make a new artist friend. I go to the place he suggested. There is one person, a rather large, older man (who does not look like the guy in the photo) eating. I do say hi to hi as I ask the server for a table. I say hi just in case he's the guy but he's already eating so I brush it off. There is no one else there at all. SO, I go and sit down and wait for "Steven". 10 minutes pass. I"m definitely feeling uneasy like I'm being watched. The guy at the bar complains about his food (which he has consumed btw) and the server apologizes with an "I'm sorry, Steven." Ah, so he's a regular there, on a first name basis. My feeling is that this WAS the Steven I was supposed to meet but his picture was at least 10 years old. If it wasn't him the one I was supposed to meet was a no-show. So, I left. I'm pretty sure I was set up for that guy to watch me wait. So creepy. So manipulative. Strangely similar vibes to your story.
