I work in an animal shelter and I fully agree with the way that Rocky works with the dogs he sits with. I think animal communities should be uplifting and supportive, not abusive or negative. Sitting on your lounge will never be the same as in an enclosed shelter room with an animal in a fear or aggression state. Also not all shelter workers use the same techniques because, as always, we are all individuals and we use techniques that work with our personalities, based on our own experience. Please support this community just by sending love.

A few years ago, I was a volunteer with a shelter and walking dogs and trying to help them get closer to humans. I had a cute pitbull that had known a difficult life and I was helping her by showing her not all humans are bad. I was very respectful of her space and signs she was showing. The next day I went again to walk her and she had been euthanasized because she reacted badly to a potential adopter and sadly all the efforts and trust she had shown was just dismissed because of an event that was probably preventable with someone respectful when they met her but no the lady had a young kid and loud kid while meeting her so she reacted to the stress cause she got too close to her and paid with her life. Thank you Rocky and I feel this sweetie will be ok . My heart broke on that day and I couldn't go back to volunteer.😭😢

I have no idea why border collies are shied away from as service dogs. He trained with lightening speed as if he was born to be a service furbug. I love him & he returns my love 200 fold. I also have a friend who has a border colie mix service dog that is incredible. To anyone who finds themselves needing a service dog - please consider a border collie. They learn so fast, are incredibly attentive, pick up on the most subtle signs, are amazingly loving and are just all around amazing. I was pushed to go with a golden retriever who are known for being amazing service dogs but please don't shy away from border collies. Be prepared to brush them a LOT but I've made a ritual of brushing him when I watch TV. I'm in a wheelchair now & he loves to run alongside me - the faster the more happy he is. My friend brings hers over & we let them go in my back yard where they run & play to near exhaustion.

They are well known for being among the smartest dog breeds, so it does make one wonder why they wouldn't be reccommended for a service dog. Maybe just because of the high level of excercise they need doesn't suit the lifestyle of many disabled people? I never thought about a border collie being a good service dog, but I think it makes sense, especially if you can still provide them a way to burn off their energy each day. Rocky, your calming voice and the aura you exude, allowed Billy to feel safe. Your good energy and pure soul was felt by him and it allowed him to fall into an immediate deep sleep. Love when You and Kelly work together to help these dogs in need, double the Kanaka power! 👍🏻😁❤️🐶

These videos are a lifeline for me especially because there is so much bad happening in the world. It reminds me about the best of humanity. Thank you thank you thank you!! I fostered a boarder collie. She hearded the cats. She hearded my other dog. She hearded us people. She would have hearded the plants if they would have moved. I found her a wonderful home on a sheep farm. She had a friend in the other boarder collie they owned. Kept in touch for awhile. She was living the life!!!

6min in…What a handsome boy. He doesn’t seem too bothered by you… a few min after he knew you weren’t going to approach, he seemed to relax… the fluttering eyes is usually in and out of sleep (from my experience as a foster momma). he’s sooo cute, but looks exhausted. ❤

From my experience with border collies and border collie mixes and goats, they tend to have dominance standoffs. One of those is intense! If he’s just a puppy, and got into a dominance stand off, they likely ‘attacked’ each other after a sudden move on one animal’s part. Most people never considered an attack goat. It’s a thing. 😏

I love Rocky's gentleness with the dogs. You are so very respectful of them. I appreciate the lack of eye contact until the dog is ready, turning your back (or side) to them, allowing them to move to the next level of closeness. The use of treats, and chatting away so they can get used to you. All of these matter. My dog's trainer also taught me to present leads, etc. to Kona before putting them on her. I now do that as a routine. Thanks for all you, Kelly and Alexis do for these dogs.

Thanks for helping with this beautiful boy. My husband always calls dogs he does not know "puppy", like "You're a good puppy". He says most dogs had a good time as a puppy and associate that with good times. I thought I'd share it with you because I have seen it work for him. I love the head compressions. I can't have a dog right now, so I do that to my son's dog and she loves it. Thanks Rocky and team, what you guys do is amazing!😘

If I wasn’t a apartment renter I’d scoop this guy up. 😢 I’ve been a viewer for a while and I didn’t truly understand what others on the channel meant when they said they knew the dog could be their dog. But with him I feel something special coming through the screen. It feels like seeing myself reflected back. Those expressive eyes, the stress/submission sleeping, the farm dog, the goat sibling, and his freckled paw reminds me of my first dog ever a female boarder collie who had freckled paws and legs. I can tell he is so smart, loving, and has a old anc wise soul. I know he’d get up to mischief and make me laugh with his intelligence and that he deserves a person who can let those roaming paws roam with long walks park days and a huge backyard. I’m sure several years from now when I am able to adopt I will still remember this handsome man. ❤

BILLY! 🤣 I am sure the goat is fine. He was probably herding the goat in his puppy way, not having been taught the right way. You can tell he is not a vicious dog. He didn't try to "kill" the rubber chicken. Thanks for waht you do. It is so sad when you see a dog feeling that way. Glad he came around and got a bath to boot. Thanks Mel, Kelly, Alexa and eveyrone else there working to protect these puppers and kitties.

You are incredibly compassionate and amazing and a heart full of love for these dogs. You show people a whole different side of the animal. Sometimes what is said about him is not always true. Sometimes people just want to get animal out of the way any way they can. Sometimes you are amazing. Bless you brother for helping God's Creation for speaking for them for showing people a whole different side of the situation and the dog. Thank you for finding them forever homes. God bless you always and forever. Please don't take any consideration of bad comments you have never done or said anything bad about the situations

Thank you for the insight on sitting in front of the dog, allowing him to relax. He is such a character! I love him. I am a nurse, for almost 28 years. He reminds me of my patients that "play possum" and pretend to sleep when they are too depressed or tense or agitated to engage. It's so common with distressed people. He is so obviously intelligent and needs that mental activity and challenge. Thank you also for the black Friday deal. I have been wanting to try for our rescue Min-Pin. Ordering!!❤
