I just came home from doing a bee removal. My first bee removal I did 5 years ago called last night. It was a year old hive about 1/3rd smaller then what was on this video. A 5 gallon bucket of honey comb/trash and 4 frames of brood. I live in Texas, so it being so hot (Temperature) queens shut down. If it weren't so hot this hive would be boiling with bees. I had removed a 4x8 sheet of plywood that was attached to pallets as a make shift chicken pen. No chickens in that pen for awhile. I did see 2 guinea fowl though that she had roaming around freely. Pretty cool to see them. Awaiting for dark to pick up the bees if they go in to the bee box with brood. If they take off that's perfectly fine too. Feeding my bees the trash comb now.

This is the stuff nightmares are made out of for me. Why is it you don’t wear a bee suit?
@brycesmith23755 жыл бұрын
Not needed for advanced bee removers and non-Africanized bees. Bee suits help more with Africanized as they use a hyperactive hormone that alerts the hive to sting you until death, non Africanized lack this behavior though so one or two stings are usually just annoying at most (if you don’t have an allergy ofc)
@jorgenbluered21515 жыл бұрын
@@brycesmith2375 i have worked with bees for a few years now and all i can say is that for removal. If you dont know the species you are playing cards with death. If it is "regular tempered" bees than yeah deal your hand of a few dozen stings. But for anything else typically regular bees are going to give you double digit level stings instead of killer bees triple. I would say bee suits should always bee worn if you care for your relative comfort, and a much quiker removal. Since you can get guicker with your movements because the bees anger wont be a problem.
@brycesmith23755 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Bluered understandable, I’ve heard of a fair bit of keepers say as a precaution to go with the suits but for the most part, in my area I’ll see keepers going out in a long sleeved tee and tucked in pants with just a bee mask. I guess at the end of the day it IS about knowing your bee’s (or someone else’s!)
@jorgenbluered21515 жыл бұрын
@@brycesmith2375 that is absolutely true. My coworker does tge exact same thing. Forgot to mention that. And knowing the temperament of your bees is very important. Some are the nicest little things in the world and others want to sting your eyes.

Depends on the bee and the person. People who are allergic to bees, will have a strong reaction to the sting, than someone who lives/lived in a rural setting. There are also bees, who have stronger stings and/or will chase you to the ends of the earth. It also helps to differentiate bees and wasps, since they have different patterns of behaviour.

I use to visit Georgia. Got introduced to Fire Ants. Being a Virginia Native. I'm use to bees. I heard recently those damn Fire Ants have made it to Virginia. Those things are like ground Bees. Like a volcano coming out of the ground. I will never forget driving 10 hours back home with ant stings.

I have a HUGE hive in an outside wall in my house. I'm going to attempt to remove it myself this year & keep the bees. This is like bee school for me! Wish me luck!

Good luck! My only recommendation is to relocate them a couple of miles away for at least a few days.

Awesome video DirtRooster. Wow !! That was a huge hive they built inside that wall. What amazes me is .. they built that large hive inside that wall in total Darkness. And that is how they live out their lives except with they go out to forage for Food..

You made a interesting comment about bees and thunder. Bees, even the crossbred African and European killer verity act differently once it begins thundering. This is a correlation between the claps of thunder, the overall humidity and why the bees began to settle down a notch. The sound from the thunder is calming to the bees, for several experiments on bees showed different sounds would elicit different internal responses from the bees, even causing them to brieflt "faint" and fall out of air and down to the ground, only to come to and fly away. You made a excellent point about the sound of thunder in this video. Shows the mark of someone who's been around colonies for a long time.

@@628DirtRooster I had a mentor BK years ago botch a major Yellow Jacket removal. Eastern Yellow Jackets will fly away from the hive and keep attacking you no matter how far away you try and get. It started off as a thunderstorm as we got there and they were not as aggressive. Once the storm blew over, they became irritated quickly, and started swarming me and my mentor. Of course at that time, we had about five children within range of the swarm. I took between thirty to forty stings, my mentor, strangely enough took less. I don't know about you, but pedestrian interference at the worst times gets on my last nerves. As I was getting swarmed I picked up a empty barrel we were using and flung it at the kids, scaring them away. Telling them to run didn't seem like they either heard me, or took me serious. I was able to double back to the truck and grab the fire extinguisher we had in the truck. Was the only thing I could do, as our smoker had been taken by my "mentor." He was a old man, in fact, too old to be doing what he was. He didn't even become a BK until he was 65. So long story short, the jacket venom made me feel very nauseous, semi-conscious, and hallucinate like I had consumed some wild mushrooms. But the kids were safe, so that helped, I guess :) My old bee keeping stuff is long gone, so I'd like to get back into it again, provided I can get some time off from my cruddy day job. Hope that wasn't too long my southern friend. I'm in VA, so we have mid-Atlantic type honey here. It's not as good as southern honey, but it's what we have. Thanks for the insightful videos my southern friend. Hope you and your family and friends are blessed all the days ahead.

The bees hang from each other called festooning, the young bees(2 weeks old) consume a lot of sugary nectar and essentially produce an excess of fat that’s secreted from the abdomen as wax, the bees collect the wax from each other and chew the fresh wax while festooning then stick it together creating the hexagonal cell shape.

Always thought bumble bees were such an awesome insect. But I get so sick if I get stung by one and swell like watermelon. Literally my arm swells 4x it’s normal size with fluid and I’m sick for 24 hours or more vomiting. Great video Randy!
@JohnMichaelson5 жыл бұрын
That's a scary reaction. Have you been stung and had an epi-pen around to see if it mitigated that kind of reaction?
@BESHYSBEES5 жыл бұрын
John Michaelson you can’t get epi-pens unless your breathing or swallowing is affected, take a antihistamine it’ll help.
@alteregos89495 жыл бұрын
@John Michaelson Luckily it’s been a very long time since I’ve had to go through it. We used to catch them when we were kids and I’d get stung. My mother was very tough and didn’t think I needed a doctor and just let me go through it (multiple times) then I realized to stay away and now I’m careful when they’re around. I’ve since been prescribed an Epi-Pen for it in case but I’ve not gotten one in a long time. Thanks for the comment!

BESHY’S BEE’S Bee tee vee thankfully my doc wrote a script for me years ago but it’s been a long time. But if I needed another my doc wouldn’t have any issue writing me a script for one thankfully. I’ve got the best doctor and she is very relaxed and is a doc that actually lets you help decide what treatment you should have not by the doc handbook of extreme care for problems.
@alteregos89495 жыл бұрын
@Ἕƈђἔłὄᾗ just minor irritation of the throat and breathing. But having your arm and hand or leg fill with fluid to 4 times it’s size is horrible and the vomiting uncontrollably for 24-36 hours is a horrible thing to experience lemme tell ya. Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. One good thing, it gave me huge respect and caution with BumbleBees that’s for sure. Amazing such a small insect can take down a human within an hour of stinging. Mother Nature can be vicious! 😂
