When you are in the pasture petting Moody start to run your hands over his body, Start with his head and move on down to his neck and then down his legs. Also run you hands over his withers( shoulder blades and behind the neck). When he is comfortable with that have a very short piece of rope in your hand and rub him with that. Gradually increase the areas of his body you can touch and gradually increase the rope length and maybe introduce a piece of cloth. Don't flap anything at him. Also a bit of grain or alfalfa cube after he's done well standing quietly. The natural instinct of animals is to move away from what they don't understand or have had a negative experience. Eventually you should be able to halter break him and be able to lead him. You never know when you might have to move him quickly and or need him to stand quietly.

Good day Jason, Brooke, and MaryCarl! Love your farm family. Desensitization is key for Moody. Always tuck that halter in your pocket when feeding him, in or outside of the fence. Once okay with that, move to taking it out of your pocket and just dragging it under your arm. Once Moody is used to that, work gradually to groom him and rubbing halter over his body from top to butt and lastly to head. Don't try to ever put it on until he is secure at each state. Once can rub it all over his face, ears, head.. put it on without latching, and take it back off. Eventually, you'll be able to tie the halter without him being scared. Your right!!! Just like a horse! Yep, he's full-grown, so it will be a process. But, y'all are SO GENTLE and LOVING to all your animals, Moody will learn to trust. Oh, FYI, also start rubbing down his legs and hooves as able to eventually pick one up. This will help the farrier. Much love, respect and blessings to you all!

Hi Jason and family!! My suggestion for Mr. Moody is a structure, kind of like an open milking station, where there is a feed through and a locking aparatus where he can get his head secured.. To make it agreeable to use you could use like a cuo of sweet feed to get him to start eating. Keep the sessions short to get him used to it. It will be very convenient for other procedures, like giving shots, get blood samples, etc. I t would be nice to have a roof over, in case of rain. I hope that helps.

You might just leave/tie the halter attached to the fence at all times so Moody can investigate it when you aren't around. The more he sees it, the more comfortable he should be with it. Let him see you hooking the goats up to their leashes & walking them around. If I remember rightly, you used to do that all the time. It's also good so if something happens you can get the goats quickly together.

@kathyandwhatsuptoday22043 жыл бұрын
Hi guys, To train Moody for the halter try having the nose hole area of the halter centered over and dropped into his grain bucket so that he needs to place his nose through it to eat the grain. Do not try to put it on him but just let him get used to putting his nose through to get that yummy grain. This may take awhile but when he does not hesitate to eat with the halter in the bucket, you can then gently start to move the halter so it touches the side of his face while he is eating his grain now do this until he is not bothered by that then move on to having more of the halter contacting his face etc. Soon you will have it licked. Personally I would use a horse type halter that you can just leave on him once you are able to buckle it on. This would be handy through the taming and leading him around phase. Since he is just in a open pasture there is little risk that it would get caught up on anything. Just some thoughts, good luck🤞

I really think they want to paint a school bus on the yellow coop , so I don't think they want to add them to that one. They would really look cool on that one barn or if they build smaller wooden structures and and outdoor kitchen area that they have talked about. They still have a lot more structures to build, so it might be best to wait until they get some of those done before final placement.

Can't recommend enough watching "The Hoof GP" for at least a few sessions to understand what a cow hoof trim should look like. The Holland technique he uses works. Also show what some of the problems that might happen and what to look for. Moody is big enough that you need the right equipment or someone could get accidently hurt. Not saying you couldn't train him to get trimmed like a horse, but I suspect it would be years of training, not just getting a halter on him.
