This lady lived in a time when women/wives accepted disrespect in the name of being wife. She should have left for her self and the sake of her children. The man clearly was disrespectful and did not have any regard for his family. I doubt he loved her. He probably grew in dysfunction and his is the behaviour he saw. Sadly, children pattern after or are affected by the behaviour of their parents.

Having some experience of this I have had to learn to protect my mental health and wellbeing. And love is kind yes patient it is not boastful or puffed up. I think this is so much an individual thing though.
