My grandson was born very flat and with no real muscle tone. He was diagnosed with GAND syndrome and has really severe learning difficulties. He had a lot of physio and eventually was able to sit and then stand. He had to have surgery to lengthen his Achilles tendons and is able to walk short distances. Recently he has been diagnosed with poor muscle tone in his abdominal sphincter muscle and unfortunately is failing to thrive, due to constantly regurgitating his food. He’s only 7 years old and has had a rough time but he’s a great wee boy and although he is non verbal can communicate. He would never have the quality of life he has without his amazing physio therapist

Dear Dr Paul, thank you for your love and continuous provision of excellent paediatric medical care for children. It is so heart wrenching when I read so many parents just made irresponsible choices and irreversible medical procedures to their children, that lead to the patient's lifelong suffering.

Two of my three babies I delivered were “frank breech” vaginal deliveries! This presentation was undiagnosed before it was time to deliver! The only thing I was told to do was double diaper and their legs came down gradually on their own. They are now 52 and 56 years old.

I didn’t realize this either. My brother was born breach in 1959. My mom said he came butt first. He weighed 10 pounds, 6 oz and my mother said her bowels acted nearly the whole delivery. She also nearly bled to death. Believe it or not 2 years later she had my youngest brother. He was born with no problems although he did weigh 9 lbs and 9 oz!

My sister was born breach (born in 1981), and the nurse forced her legs down right away in the delivery room. My mom heard a pop or some sort of noise like that, and definitely messed things up. 4 or 5 years later my sister later had to have corrective surgery and was in a hip/upper leg cast for a while. I am guessing the nurse had no clue what she was doing?

I’m a mom of 4. My first 2 were frank breech and had turned out “frog legs.” My oldest also had really bad torticolis. The hospital told me not to worry about his legs, that they’d assume the right position as he grew and got stronger. Unfortunately, he was born with low muscle tone, too, and ended up very delayed with gross motor skills. He was fitted with AFOs just shy of his 2nd birthday and they were the catalyst that finally got him walking! It’s hard looking back, knowing all that I know now, as a seasoned mom, but I just didn’t know better then. Thankful for videos like this to help educate other new parents!

Aww. I feel for you, mom. We don’t know what we don’t know. Good job learning and loving your babies to the best of your ability and growing along the way! We took our son (first child) to PT for the first 9 months due to torticollis. There, they told us so many parents have no idea about so many things, including torticollis and the kids deal with longer-term effects that aren’t discovered until later. These things are very common. You are not alone and you are not a bad parent!

My daughter was born exactly this way. I had C-section back in the 90’s. I wasn’t allowed to work her legs. She stayed in a full body brace for the first 6 months to keep her in a frog pose. We bonded however it wasn’t easy at first. It was difficult to really cuddle and cradle her with the brace on. I made it work. She ended up with scoliosis from the position she was in. She needed a lateral release knee surgery at age 15, I have a feeling it’s connected to her position when born. She’s an adult now and have given birth 4 times now. Each time she was in extreme pain in her hips and pelvic area. I have a feeling it’s because she didn’t get the massage she needed. We need more information surrounding these types of births, not only for the babies, the mothers as well. I still have issues still years later from the position from my daughter being in me.

All my life my siblings joked about how I almost killed my mother in delivery. I was her last child. Apparently I was breech, butt first with the cord around my neck multiple times. I've lived a great life tho not without hip pain and problems throughout my life and that really worsened in 2017ish. In short, radiology showed sacrilization, bilateral, 100% & 90%, along bulging disc Ls 3-4, 4-5. When the results came in my chiro refused to see me any more. I retired at age 61; no longer drive 1.5 hours to work and another home. I can't say if the driving and the sacrilization and bulges was the cause of so much pain but I can conclude that all the teasing I took as a child because I could never bend over and touch my toes with straight knees was real. Post retirement, I am healthy and painfree and do tons of yard work....but still, can't touch my toes 😂

Great informational video👍 Now if only we could have one describing physio with "sunny side-up birth's" which often result in C-section nowadays with larger babies. My child also had a genetic anomaly which wasn't diagnosed until 3yrs old but after not hitting milestones @6months interventions were recommended and taken to make sure she thrived! I always learned the most from her Pt who did alot of massage and strengthening\muscle toning exercises and Now she is getting ready to finish the final part (driving) of drivers ed. I am eternally grateful for the Ot, PT and ST therapists she has had through the yrs. Without them, we would be lost but ultimately my child would be at a disadvantage when i comes to doing what other peers her age are capable of. Thank you, for ladies like in this video and Drs who recognize the signs and need for interventions, no matter what they may be!

Our 9 almost 10 year old granddaughter was Frank breech. Daughter went into labor but she knew she would have a c-section. Her legs came right down on their own when they got her out. All turned out fine. Her legs were not a problem, she got her hips ultra-sounded when she was 2 weeks old to check on them. No problems. ❤️ second granddaughter was born 3 years later, regular vaginal birth. Our daughter got to experience both types of births, and we are blessed with two beautiful grandchildren ❤️💕

I was a vaginal breech birth in 1954. My mum was in labour for 2 days, it must have been hell. They had to stitch her womb back into position & she only had the one child ..me.. . I believe the staff were negligent. All my life ive had leg & hip pain, I could never walk far & i could never understand it but now listening to these two professionals i see the trauma my body went through being born. 7 years ago I had a double hip replacement after years of suffering.

I am a retired OB nursing instructor. I used to tell my students, for the baby, going through labor and delivery is like running continuously a marathon you can't stop running in. It is like an adult running for how ever long the labor, delivery and immediate post deliver recovery last. It gave them a whole different out look on why babies sleep so much in the days after delivery and don't really want to suck too much. They are literally exhausted from the process of being born.

My first baby was born bum first with her legs bent down at the knees, that was how she was born. She got stuck under my ribs and never moved for months. I had no idea until a week before delivery. We did not have all the mod cons back in the 70s. I kept telling my Dr I could not sit up straight, Epidural had only just started to be used so I was a guinea pig at our hospital. 36 long hours and I had a beautiful baby girl with her head shaped like ET. It never did fully go back in shape.

I was a breach baby from the early 1960's. My Mom said she carried me 3 weeks over! But all went well.

I have never heard of Frank Breech- is Frank Breech responsible for some people who have developmental delays such as Cerebral Palsy or hydrocephalies. I might be totally off base. Thank you for teaching me something new.

I was born breech. Idk what kind but my mom delivered vaginaly . I do have hip pain and arthritis. I was diagnosed around age 30 but I had the pain much longer. I wonder if this caused that.

My first son was born footling breech by vaginal delivery (1 1/2 years ago). Luckily he had no problems with the hips what so ever (A1 kategory), even though I have a family medical history of hip dysplasia. I was only encouraged to double diaper him and carry him a lot in the carrier (that specific "frog" position). But he had problems with opening his mouth widely due to some muscle tensing from being born that way around. But we found an amazing osteopath, who treated him a couple times similar the way as shown here and the muscle tensing disappeared. I am pregnant right now and my second is again in breech (31 week right now) and although I hope the baby will turn soon, my gut feeling tells me that I will have another breech vaginal delivery 🙄

Two of my three were frank breech births. Fortunately for them they had no issues.

My granddaughter was frank breech. We had to wrap her up with her legs up for a couple of weeks while her legs relaxed to a normal position.
