That beam of light emanating from the cloud is called a Crown Flash! They’re beyond unfathomably rare to see, and quite a beautiful spectacle at that. The reason for this phenomenon is due to electrical charge in the cloud. Crown Flashes require a very, *very* specific set of circumstances to occur. The cloud needs to have electrical activity inside of it, it needs to be cold enough for ice crystals to form inside the cloud, and the sun must be shining onto the cloud from a very specific angle, which can vary depending on how high the cloud is and/or how dense it is. Basically what happens, is light from the sun shines on the ice crystals in the cloud, which, if everything is absolutely 1000% perfect, reflects a beam of light out of the cloud. The flashing, pulsating nature of the light is caused by the electrical activity; lightning may occur within the cloud, reorienting the electromagnetic properties of the cloud for a moment. This sudden change in static electricity can shift the angle of the ice crystals in the cloud, momentarily redirecting the light they reflect. There’s a lot of really cool videos of Crown Flashes I’ve seen on KZbin, but the one in this video here is definitely one of the best!

I had a similar situation with the fish but with parakeets. My brother bought one as a kid. We had no knowledge of them at the time and learned they are social birds and needed to be in pairs. So mom sent me and my friend to the store to get a second one. We looked at the cage. Like 49 keets on one side and one little green one on the other. We chose him. We brought him home to join his new yellow friend and.....he promptly beat the snot out of yellow. Now we know why he had his own side of a cage.

I seem to recall that in this case, it was ice crystals being aligned by intense electrical currents in a building storm. So they we're simply moving to reflect light back to the observer as the current in the cloud moved around, which is why it wasn't stable, but flipping around like you'd expect from high voltage currents.
@daemn4210 ай бұрын
The arc being there wasn't the glitch. The glitch was the fact that it appears to move impossibly fast. Presumably it was some trick of refracted light through some other part of the cloud casting a narrow beam onto that part of the cloud.

One of my cats has nightmares every day/night, he'll fling his body way up into the air (like a meter or more), which often sends him flying off furniture or makes him land awkwardly on things that are uneven. It sometimes scares all of my cats, it happens so suddenly. I think it's because he's disabled with a neurological condition - he may dream about falling off stuff or running into things, both of which happen often in real life, but I dunno. Doesn't work with a bull. Just makes them mad and charge you. Why would he think it would work with a crocodile? (Is that a crocodile or an alligator?)

@@brucefreadrich1188 It's a common technique for 'shutting down' a bird or a reptile- covering their eyes or making it dark. Crocs and alligators are reptiles, so I can understand the leap in logic. I believe it actually does work on crocs when performed correctly, as you'll often see crocodiles being transported with their eyes covered.

@@rhysplaysvirtual Exactly. Steve Irwin did it all the time when it came to rescueing gaters and crocs. The other thing he'd do is get something in the mouth so that they snap their mouth shut and do the death roll... inadvertently tieing their mouth shut.

That cloud is Sky gliders wet dream. Its called a "Morning Glory" and its ridiculously seldom. they can appear in Hot climates that border significantly regions like the ocean, the air-currents mixing and forming the shape its like a Sideways tornado, one side having very strong upward currents, the other strong downward ones. they happen most often in Australia.
