Honestly, as somebody who used to be scared of spiders, the portrayal of giant friendly spiders in a couple of different places made me fear them a lot less. I find exposure to portrayals of spiders being huge but objectively non-threatening is a great way to get over fear of them.

Well freeing him from his chains would have been one thing. Getting him out of prison would have been another problem. Large flying birds or mammals would have been noticed by guards, especially with a man hanging from said avian as they made their escape. Climbing down using a spider silk rope from a giant stealthy spider might possibly have attracted less notice methinks. Just spitballing here.
