watched this movie months ago and I think Sy's loneliness is so profound but really familiar. Robin Williams has the ability to shapeshift to different characters in his career but Sy is undeniably difficult to pull-off...unless you've crossed that dark bridge of depression and lonliness. when i watched this film i was fighting a lot of demons and knowing how RW died really didn't help too. But I agree with you..the acting is just gripping and the ending just made my head spin. i had more questions than answrrz.

"loneliness is a very scary emotion" - 1000% TRUE.
@lolanola17832 жыл бұрын
Sy's character makes me really emotional. I grew up a very lonely child, subjected to s*xual abuse throughout my childhood. Depending on the severity of the abuse, some people.. just don't grow up. They mentally can't. I regress in age mentally, but I'm more stuck at 15 (I'm 17). But it sounds more like Sy's trauma didn't let him grow up. And as he had no family other than this abusive member, no support system, he couldn't even process what happened to him properly, let alone have anyone to help him into the adult world. I'm getting my GED and am going to (start by) getting my assosiates at Nursing school, and eventually get my Bachelors- I want to be a nurse for the elderly. Try and make those who have no family a little less lonely. Because one of the saddest things in life, is looking back and realizing you have no one to hold your hand and smile at you fondly. And for someone like Sy, that's even more sad, because if he had a family, they might have been able to help him through his trauma somewhat.

I think you pointed out a good comparison from the photos Jake took at six flags and the unfocused hotel room photos Sy took. It could possibly represent Sy's childhood. I think maybe rather than being an Uncle to the family, Sy saw himself as Jake. Wishing to have the perfect parents who love him and a perfect childhood. After finding out Will messed up Sy's perfect image of family, Sy snapped and got his own way of revenge. Sy probably never got to resolve his own childhood issues, and this was some form of getting back at his "parent." A sort of theory i guess lol

As someone who has been a fan of Robin Williams long before he passed, I agree that his passing has added another layer of sadness but honestly that depth and understanding of raw negative emotion has always been there whenever you watch his movies. I think that's maybe why I turned to his movies whenever I was feeling down. His presence pierced through one's soul. I still mourn that he is no longer with us.

i appreciate movies and artists able to humanize characters like Sy. though his actions are NOT okay at all, i think its really important to showcase the behind the scenes of crimes like this. ive had multiple stalkers before and have felt sadness more than anything for them. i was never more than a friend to any of them before they became stalkers. i wish everyone could keep their "childish" empathy that jake had for sy into adulthood. i think its important to be a friend to all and care for "strangers". I hate that we live in a society where some people are so isolated that showing them slight kindness can put you at danger of their obsession. No one should be that unaccustomed to love. I'm not giving excuses to stalkers or Sy AT ALL cause that sh*t is insane and scary(and they should know better), i just wish there was a way to help all lonely people have more of a stance in reality and life. To all of the past present or future lonely people in the comments: one of my favorite quotes from ATLA, "were all living together even if some folks don't act like it."

1. There is no 5x6 photo. Photo sizes goes from 3.5x5 to 4x6 to 5x7 to 6x8 to 6x9 to 8x10 to 8x12. 2. Colour correction isn't scanning each photo into a computer and loading it into Photoshop. These are electronic pre-computer automatic photo-labs. The machine shines a light through each frame of the negative one by one. The operator looks at it, and based on what he sees, decides on how do the correction. This takes some training because it's a negative, so all colours are reversed. You are also attempting to what is effectively an transmissive "slide" to a final reflective print on photographic paper. The adjustment consists of -2, -1, 0, +1, +2 for each of D (density) or C/Y/M (cyan, yellow, magenta). For most photos, only D is adjusted. Only very rarely do we adjust C/Y/M. It takes only a fraction of a second for each photo. You press buttons on a special keyboard on the machine. When you're done doing it for the film strip, the machine then shines a light through the negative onto photographic paper. This is done three times, for each R/G/B colour. The number determines an adjustment to the default exposure time for each colour. The "factor" between the number and actual time is calibrated by a technician using test prints and a densitometer. The lab operator also typically runs a calibration print in the morning, followed by perhaps one or two further calibrations later in the day. As enviromental conditions/temperature changes, or the chemical is "consumed", the machine's balance may drift a bit, requiring these.

I used to go to the retirement home in my old neighbourhood everyday in summer and just talk to the patients, i now have so many grandmas and grandpas that "adopted" me, nobody ever visited them and i have experienced so much trauma, SA and DV, there were people who tryed to understand me but none of them ever understood how it felt to feel lonely, lonely because i just wanned to be loved but after my first boyfriend who SAed me so many times, it was not just hard to trust men but most just wanned me because of my body( and i now still get flashbacks even when my fiance touches me, he is the first men that gave me space and made me feel safe and that my worth is not just tied to my body) one day i walked by the retirement home and i saw a grandma and she smiled at me while i walked by but all i can see in her eyes was lonelyness so i trued around and asked her if she minds if she needs somebody to talk to and she just started crying and i startet crying too, she told me that her son died and from that first day i went there everyday, im fucking crying rn thinking about them, she introduced me to all the other patients, i wrote down all the foods that they can have and i asked the staff for promition to bake something and they said its a great idea, honestly they were so overworked they were so greatfull, i used to bake every week and all my new grandparents were so happy to see me, more than my real grandparents ever were lol my real family doesnt care about me that much.... they never saw past my good grades... And if you ever see somebody crying in public pls ask if they are okay or if they need somebody to talk to the worst thing that can happen is them saying no, because if i never would've talked to the sweet old lady just a stranger, she would've never told me that she was planing to kill herself that night, i would've never promised her that im gonna visit her everyday that summer and tbh i probably wouldnt be here rn... cuz i was on my way to TW hang myself in a little wooded area, it was a 40 minute walk to that area and i just wanned to use these 40 minute to think where exactly to do it and the funny thing is i wanned to take a diffrent route but my gut feeling told me to take that route where i would pass the retirement home on my way and im so happy that i listened to my gut feeling! And if anybody here needs somebody to talk to and/or is thinking about doing the shit that i wanned to do, pls dm me on instagram: Badinfluence010, im here and i care!

ur right stephanie, loneliness is actually scary, i can’t imagine being that alone. especially if you’re on the elderly side🥲humans have literally evolved to be social creatures so when we experience social isolation today we don’t necessarily end up starving and dying like our ancestors did, we instead kind of go through a much slower death. idk how to explain it it’s fucked. human connection is so important.

I think rather than a thriller, this movie leans toward a psychological movie...The way the story is laid out and the characters... Sy's character is a symbol of depression. But it was also about his anger and revenge for the past that he can't do anything about. He did it because he can't do anything in the past, so he did it for someone who might be in the same position as him. From your story, I think it's a great movie, but I don't think I can ever watch it... (I'm still crying while typing this LOL) my experience is totally different from theirs, of course... but the loneliness hits close to home. Even by listening to your story, I can already imagine it clear in my head and heart. anyway, I always love all your story tellings, true crimes, vlogs, and all. Been here since... 2019? or maybe 2018, I can't remember. Thank you for creating so much content till now. Love you!
