I learned how to shine boots when I joined the Marines in 1996. Lance Corporal Holt, who lived in my barracks, was the king of getting those boots looking glassy. There were quite a few different methods that I learned over the years. Standard shine, polish on boots and buff Spit shine with tap water Spit shine with cold water Apply polish and light on fire on boots, buff in and polish Lighting polish on fire, letting it melt, and applying melted polish to boots before polishing I’m probably forgetting a bunch of other ways! Point being is I have seen you use quite a few different methods throughout your videos and it’s always fun to see how you do it, and brings back some memories!

Am I watching you use sandpaper instead of the blade? If so, what grit! I'm a woodworker. Sounds like 600, but on leather, I can't tell. The sound of you foaming the cleaner in the can top brings me all the way back to when my dad used to shave using foam with a bar and brush. I used to love that sound of him foaming the soap for a shave. Now, it's just the sound of a can spraying for most. Some things just shouldn't be lost and I'm glad it's making a bit of a comeback. Also, when waiting for my dad to come home after a business trip, I would sit in the concourse and watch the shoe shiners. I could sit there for hours watching. sadly, very, very few shoe shine stations still exist on the concourse. I'll attribute that to the fact that folks now wear sweats and pajamas on flights rather than dress up like they use to in the 60's and 70's. Times change, but that doesn't mean a really great skill has to disappear into oblivion! People still buy leather shoes, and some folks pay thousands for some of them, so I'm glad you're keeping the trade alive! Thank you for that.
