I dunno. As a cyclist, I try to work with the cars. And yeah, some are dicks, but stopping in the middle of the road to confront someone is not dissimilar to honking at someone to let them get past despite the cyclist pretty much staying with the flow. The real issue for me is the roads just aren't built for both, and we all need to calm down a bit. Councils need to look to develope cycleways that are separate from the roads, possibly making some roads "residents only". I'm not perfect. I've been hit (at slow speed) 3 times as cars turned into the cycle lane, and one time I had to consciously stop myself from knocking the cars wing mirror off in anger. But drivers just need to calm down. There was no benefit in getting past in the first place. The red car never got more than 50 meters ahead. That said, the first time you turned your head after the honk, there was a long piece of road with no parked cars where you could have easily pulled over and let them past.

None of these payments change the fact that your driving is a privilege and not a right. There is no road tax - it was abolished in the 1930s to stop entitled drivers from claiming that they own the public highway. You mean VED, a pollution tax. It's obvious why cyclists and pedestrians don't pay that tax. As a driver you're a freeloader - the sum of motoring taxes in the UK is far less than the sum cost of motoring to society. @@CyclingMikey Mikey, for once I'm surprised at you: The "road tax" vs "VED" argument, oft trotted out by militant cyclists (I don't consider you one of these, BTW!), is a matter of semantics. Most people use the words "road tax" as a generic term for VED - in the same way that people talk about "hoovering" their house even though they're using an Vax, or talk of using "perspex" to repair their greenhouse when referring to acrylic sheet. If someone says they're nipping to the Post Office to get their road tax, we all know what they mean, even though the words are technically incorrect. If, as you say (and I have no reason to doubt it), the taxes raised by motoring are less than the expenditure required to maintain roads, then it's patently obvious that putting the tax revenue into the general pot, before taking it back out again to use on road transport expenditure, is simply accountancy sleight of hand; the entire sum _still_ ends up funding transportation and the roads one way or the other. The point I'm making is that it's a childish argument, one that effectively mocks someone for their incorrect choice of words rather than addressing their position. All your other points are spot on. ...Of course, none of that changes the fact that "Yeah, but cos muh road tax" is an utterly utterly stupid argument! :D

@@cargy930 It's more that drivers are using "road tax" to suggest they own the roads, whereas it's actually a pollution tax. @@JHJHJHJHJH What is best. A dead cyclist, legally in the right, that would not move over killed by a total ignorant idiot in an Audi or a live cyclist who pulled over and let a self entitled idiot overtake and gain 5 yards? I am a driver in Scotland. We have narrow roads with bends and blind summits. I choose to drive 45 to 50 on them, if a car catches up then I signal left at first operchancity, slow down, and wave him past all this only if it is clear. I am legally entitled to drive at 45 to 50 but why should I cause impatience to create a dangerous situation? Ditto to cyclists, just because you legally can does not mean you should block traffic. Note on this case the cyclist did not block traffic, the driver was C.I.A. and a nutter but tell that to the cyclists widow.
@jeffturner16583 жыл бұрын
Why did the cyclist move to the wrong side of the road waiting for the barrier ? Then when the traffic moved on the cyclist was wrongly positioned. Sometimes its a half and half responsibility of how a situation developed. I cannot see why the cyclist made that deliberate poor position decision at the start which then escalated the ongoing tussle...

i have no clue what this guy wanted, absoutely no issue with the cyclists position at any point, keeping away from parked cars, moving the same sort of pace as the cars in front of him, all he did by sounding his horn was cause the cclist to stop to ask hat the issue was. A bit evo lucas asking the school run mum what the danger is. Theres no danger or issue, something in peoples brains sees a bicycle in front of them so want to get ahead of it asap, even if it gets them absolutely nowhere but to the back of the traffic queue or red light. Its an odd idea i dont share but ive seen people overcombed by this must pass idea many a time. What i would hate, is for a motorbike rider in london, to discover this two abreast audi driver, sitting stationary in a line of cars. Go up behind him and beep the horn. Beep it it again and again. Then when he gets out, ask him why he did it to a cyclist in this video? He will say'' he woz in front of me in da middle of da woad''. To which the biker can reply ''you're in my way, in the middle of the entire, centre and left of the road, driving along at zero miles per hour,. The cyclist was moving along at a pace that was no slower than you could otherwise have been going. Dont be a hypocrite when YOU are the slowest moving vehicle out there''. I have never ridden a bike or motorbike on a road at zero mph, but cars seem to enjoy doing this for some reason and are never fined for obstructing traffic, why is this?
