The fact of the matter is that its a LOT easier for a man to abandon his family than for a woman. I'm only 2 minutes into the video but basically most of the time child support is only legally mandated if you have some kind of custody agreement, which usually only happens if you're divorced or otherwise legally separated. But when your spouse just dips unexpectedly and is impossible to contact, I expect it would be difficult to obtain that kind of legal recourse. Iirc there are ways to have someone's custody removed without them signing off on it, but it's very difficult.

I wish we could just make the same for missing people, like the really missing people. I get what you are saying and I do agree, but people who have been abducted, beaten, are inebriated or were drugged or somehow restricted in how they can communicate and seek help for themselves also cannot be found as easy. Because they usually didn’t disappear with the intention to disappear, someone else made them disappear. They don’t walk away from everything without a trace as if it’s a choice. This guy just decided to walk away and pretends and lies as if he didn’t abandon his family and as if he wasn’t a deadbeat dad and a terrible husband, though he is. People like him also can’t stay away from looking for other people to confirm his own delusional grandure, so he’s easy to find because of course he’s trying to find a new date and new jobs and new people to adore him, because he really believed he got away with abandonment and everyone just would love him no matter what. That’s so different than someone who would want to get help but can’t and genuinely can’t access the resources or ability to try to reach their loved ones and go back home. He had all the resources and just chose to live a lie and manipulate others. It’s very different.

there are online communities working to find missing people. While the internet has been amazing in finding people, it unfortunately can only take us so far with people who did leave a digital footprint. he was on TV and posted his stuff online, so it was easier for people to track down where he could be. not all missing people will be doing that. even in cases that they do, it’s tricker since they might realize they’ll get tracked down if they go online.

I know it's irrelevant to the topic but what I'm shocked about this video is the guy commentating. How do you not know that men leaving women to avoid responsibilities as a father is a common problem? Or even finding out people treat women who are victims badly, even saying "there's a first time for everything"??? How are those rare/first time occurrences to you? What world do you live in?

Pretty sure that ‘first time for everything’ comment was sarcastic dude.

That happened to my bother in law - his wife abandoned him at Xmas one year and it took him 3 year to get a divorce from abandonment of the marital home. There weren't any children though but he had to rehome his dog with his parents.

It’s been going on forever. When the stock market crashed, men just left. Some killed themselves but others just left. During WWI and II, some men never went home and stayed in France and other countries to start new families with women they met there. Lots of books have it as a plot. Women know it’s a risk. We hear about it all the time.
