The way you described Jackson holding his ears makes me wonder if it was a lot louder than he was used too. Imagine it as if you were underwater for so long and then came up and everything was loud and clear.

I suffered from chronic ear infections when I was little. I had blue ear tubes put in when I was in kindergarten and it was a 1000000000000% worth it. They also took out my tonsils at the same time. The anesthesia was the hardest part from what I remember, being very tired and just out of it. Best thing my parents ever did for me. I'm in my 30's and I hardly ever have ear infections or sore throats. ❤a heart for Jackson for being super brave! Glad to a see he is doing better!

Bless Jackson’s heart! Anytime kids come down from anesthesia, they usually wail and cry because it’s such a strange feeling. They’re not quite awake, but they’re not asleep. It is completely normal. Usually by the time they make it out to the car, they calm right down.

It's been a while since I've watched you guys. And now I see Jackson displaying full awareness in his eyes. I think around 5 is when you start to accumulate a lot more memories and with that your sense if self develops a lot. It's fascinating seeing these slow transformations. And how Jackson is growing up. And the way he expresses himself through speech also took a leap. I've heard him using words I don't think I would by his age. I think that shows hiw much his parents talk to him. Which is, in my humble opinion, the result of excellent parenting. Jackson is brave by his own merits, but also because he's so confident that he's loved by his parents. That makes such a huge difference in anyone's mind.

Such great news that Jackson’s surgery went well! I work at a hospital in recovery and it’s very common for not only child but adults to cry or whimper when coming out of anesthesia. It’s very confusing and upsetting to wake up disoriented in a strange place. I’m sorry that it was so stressful for all of you. I pray that he’s on the mend very quickly. ❤

I am so glad that Jackson is doing better. My youngest son had to have 5 Strabismus eye surgeries as a baby starting at 14 months old. I have to say that the anesthesiologist is the most important person. The first surgery went very well. He woke up gently after surgery and was very calm through the whole recovery. The second surgery, we had a different anesthesiologist and it was horrible! He woke up quickly, yanked out his I.V. and wasnt able to get any pain medicine. He was frantic through the whole recovery time and was still screaming and flailing when they were sending us home. The third surgery, I talked to the anesthesiologist about the difference between the two recoveries, and I found out that this was the one we had from the first surgery and everything was calm and gentle again. That is when i realized just how valuable the anesthesiologist is.

The anesthesia effect happened to my son when we got crowns on some of his teeth at 6. He had the same anesthesia as Jackson but when he woke up, it was the same. He was crying and just overwhelmed with the strange feeling of anesthesia. It was so heartbreaking as a parent. But with a cold treat and an hour later or after a nap (his appointments were broken up in two appts) he was back to himself again. Way to go, Jackson! He did so great!

So glad he is ok! To help you understand the crying when he was in recovery. My daughter had ear tubes placed and they warned that children coming out of anesthesia they usually cry and scream. Their bodies don’t understand the anesthesia and the feeling you get from it.

I've been a pediatric ICU nurse for 37 years and taken care of countless children thru the years postoperative. Anesthesia emergence happens so very often and can be troubling for parents because there's no consoling your child. It just has to run its course. Is that Nemours Childrens? I've only ever worked in large children's hospitals and my old director left where I worked years ago help start up that hospital. They sound like a wonderful place. Glad Jackson is on the mend.❤

Jackson is the sweetest little soul. I'm so happy to hear his ear tube procedure went well! Hopefully this is the only time he'll have them. I suffered from a lot of ear infections as a kid and had to have tubes several times. The procedure itself is daunting because of the anesthesia, but when they take them out it's super easy and can be done by your normal doctor (at least that's what they did when I was a kid, it was just an office visit I think). Also, I love his glasses!

Way to go Jackson! Watching this brought back all the memories of my experiences! You mentioned the scent for the mask and to this day I can still smell that🤢. In my experience (I’ve had probably 10 sets or more in my 30+ years), my ears didn’t hurt after but it was the sound difference that bothered me for several days after. It took some time for my ears to adjust to the levels I was supposed to be hearing at. Good luck Jackson and hopefully this is the only set of tubes you’ll need!!

Even I wail and cry when I get out of surgery and they wake me up. I'm always so sick afterwards from the anesthesia, so I hate it! Well done, Jackson! He really is a brave kiddo! I hope everything will be much easier for him now. Well done to you to, Jenn and Tim. As a mom myself, I can only imagine how scary and overwhelming it can be. There was a chance my daughter had to have surgery on her skull when she was about 6 months old because her fontanel(that soft spot in the skull) was closing too soon, so they monitored her closely for months, but thankfully a surgery was not needed, because if it was, she would've had to have that same surgery but reversed at age 12, so...I was so scared when we were waiting for that verdict. Forever grateful she didn't need the surgery. She has been in hospital a few times because she always got dehydrated so quickly when she got sick. She was so small and always had very high fevers when she got sick(and she got a lot of respiratory infections), it was always so scary and you feel so helpless and useless as a parent in that moment. But now she's a healthy 14yo teenager who is proud of who she is and I couldn't be more proud of her because she has been diagnosed with Autism and ADHD but that diagnosis only made her stronger and more confident! She has had a few difficult years and she struggled at school, but she keeps on surprising us all every year. It's amazing how kids sometimes just seem to walk through hard times as if it were nothing. I think sometimes, we as adults, can learn a lot from them too! Hope Jackson is completely ok now and his tubes are doing what they are supposed to do. Hope you are all doing ok over there! sorry for this long comment... I always do that 🙈 I just don't have anybody to talk to, so this feels like talking to a friend, hope you don't mind, because I know you read all the comments... ok I'm gonna stop nagging now🙈🙊

Im glad for Jackson that surgery went well. Hope the tubes help him. I don’t have kids of my on, so i don't know how it feels to wait and feel helpless during the recovery. I think y'all did goid. Jenn being with Jackson and holding him after, was the best you could do. I had surgery on my arms when i was 16 years old, i had an accident sliding into a old glass door window, and it was the worst memory. However, I know that even though i was in pain after surgery and couldn't move my arms for a month, I know that was realky glad my woukd hold me when i cried in pain and frustration, and My Mom helped me through it. The best thing a Parent can do for their chikd is hug and hold them when their chikd needs it, no matter how hold thye are. Hope Jackson continues doing goid and tubes help him. Thanks for sharing all this. I'm sure it helos orher parents. Be Safe Take Care 😊❤❤❤❤

I had two sets of ear tubes and also had my adenoids removed when I was a kid. I don't remember much about either surgery other than that I was terrified the whole time regardless of who tried to comfort me, and the surgeon thought it'd be fun and cheery to wheel me down the OR while singing "zip-a-dee-do-dah" and it definitely did not help. So much so that I've actually held a grudge with that song my whole life 😂 while I have new ear issues as an adult, the tubes definitely helped me when I was growing up and I only had one or two ear infections post tube surgery. Anesthesia emergence definitely does suck, but I'm so glad to see/hear how well Jackson did! He's such a brave little buddy💙

Poor buddy. There's really no easy way to describe anesthesia to someone who hasn't had it- I can only imagine how difficult it must be for a child. Plus everyone reacts differently. I've had a handful of surgeries over my life (as a kid and an adult) and reacted differently every time (either like the typical ridiculous funny post anesthesia and then a reaction similar to Jackson the last time I had to go under). Glad he's feeling better and being such a trouper!

After my ear tubes I had to wear earplugs when I went in the pool. In case I swam underwater. (prevented bacteria) Also, where I life in the winter time I had to make sure to wear a hat, careful with cool drafts. My left ear had to get a second tube surgery which seem to do the trick. Even as an adult if I get water in my ear it drives me crazy. It takes like a day to get the water out. So really anytime I'm swimming I like to use the orange plugs. I'm very happy I got them done because I no longer get ear infections. The throbbing pain and how often it happened I wished my parents would of brought me sooner. When they fell out it meant it was healed and the doctor checked to make sure everything went to plan. My tubes were white and the shape of Kraft dinner. From time to time I would experience a mild discomfort I was 7 yrs old when I got mine done sometime after but it lasted only a second. It would happen randomly. I recall a family road trip that we would drive up mountains which have higher altitudes. My ears would pop and sometimes sounded like a crackling noise (like rice crispies) but relieved when we got lower down the mountain.Today times I have to warn anyone in a car with me driving down a highway and want to roll down there window, I have to plug my ears the window goes down. There is a pressure that hurts when the order is not done correctly. With the different altitude like a road trip or air plane it's good to have gum or action of chewing that helps the ear pressure. Well, the tough part for you guys is over knowing your little man will go on happier again. I wish Jackson the best. It only gets better buddy! Hugs🥰😀
