Basically all of the blast wave/overpressure mechanic is unrealistic af. Currently any open-top vehicle's crew is wiped out by complete misses by rockets etc. even if it's got decent armor but not a roof.

Dozens of P-51s and P-47s coming in at ~7km escorting a giant formation of B-17/B-24s. Doesn't sound as good now, does it?

It still has to penetrate the armour to damage inside. But instead of the whole shell penetrating in the direction it's travelling, it's all the pieces of shrapnel that explode outward in a sphere. That's why things like hitting a roof works, because the explosion/shrapnel/pressure-wave goes down (and in every other direction) through the thin roof.

@@BleedingUranium what I imagine is that, when an HE shell truly pens, it causes the equivalent of IRL hullbreak. It does not penetrate in a straight line like APHE, or like HEAT, what it does it explode so strongly it dislocated and simply destroys the weak armor that it "pens" So in a nutshell, it is hull breaking where it pens. And if that is the crew compartment, or close enough to the crew, or a strong enough shell to reach the crew with shockwave, then it is realistic in killing the crew. I think that people are mistaken thinking HE "pens". It does not "pen", it *destroys*. The only unrealistic parts of this in fame are how the armor is still intact where it pens, and sometimes where it kills crew when it shouldnt

HE is not broken. It was broken before the buff since anything less than 8kg of TNT was literally useless. Now it can actually damage enemy vehicles IF YOU HIT A WEAK SPOT... if you just hit a flat piece of (not very)thick armour it does nothing. If you hit track it takes out the track. If you hit top or bottom armour it can go through. If you hit a car it explodes no matter what. As it should be

It's broken af. A hit by an 75 mm HE would maybe damage the armor and knock out a couple of crew members for a sec (or kill one guy at best), but it's not like it would have blown up the whole tank.

@@wimex9062 no, it isnt broken, remember all these HE lobbers have long reload times, they are still less competitive than other "normal" tanks. every kill i have got in the T30 i could have got easier in the T29 or T34. HE is useable now and that is good, all the game needs is a little br tweak for a few tanks like the SU-122 and the M4 105.

I mean, I do like the new HE changes for the most part. However, it seems to be touchy at times. Sometimes i annihilate the tanks i hit, other times i do no little to no damage. Mind you, I'm using the SU-152, KV 2 and the Isu-152 mostly and i know where to aim for most tanks i face. But it sometimes feels like a coin toss as to whether or not the enemy dies in one shot. Ahh maybe its just volumetric that's giving me issues, idk. All in all though, the change feels positive!

On the USSR tech tree, the SU-122 has recently(but prior to this change) been moved behind the ZiS-30 and it makes sense given that HE shells are not very reliable without massive explosive to armor ratio. Now though I aught to try the SU-122. Other large caliber guns like Ho-Ro, SiG 15cm, I/SU-152 and Brummbar will have a field day.

The new HE might be a little too good, but I actually don't mind too much. It actually gives big derpy guns (with long reloads) a reason to exist. Also, something like a puma would be in a world of trouble it took a 105mm HE shell IRL. so..... Lastly, , KV2 is actually fun again!

New mechanic is sometimes really weird (remember that M10 getting knocked out by Pumas HE to the transmission), but using HE against tanks has always been a viable option in tank to tank combat. Records of 88mm HEs popping T-34s turrets off, 152mm HEs (APs aswell) decimating everything that stood in its path during WW2 (Ferdis, KTs, panthers, etc knocked out in one shot), Sherman 75mm peppering Tiger with HE where the crew got turned into marshmallow. 122mm HEs penetrating Tigers front plate. And many others.. Also, in the good old days HE used to be much more potent. To comment to Odds video, its the 105 Sherman as a whole that could use uptier because of its armour and relative mobility together with the HE buff. But I would definately not call the HE "too OP". It just regained a bit of its usefullness after being useless/unreliable for many years.

I have a story for this beast. I played on the Normandy map (the one without the town) and counted up my shots and kills at the end kf rhe round. In total, I suffered 27 shells, 2 broken tracks, 2 broken machine guns, 3 bombs, and 163 machine gun bullets with a kill count of 7 tank victories, 1 BF109, and 3 assisted victories. A true beast indeed.

The M4A3 (105) is at 2.7 because it doesnt get the HEAT shell stock. Before the pressure wave changes this made it an absolute pain to play the M4A3 (105) stock, but now I expect the BR to finaly go up.

The new HE mechanics with the M4A3 105 remind me of how they were back in the closed beta days, when the 105 could go against Tiger 1s and the strat was to donk a HE shell in the side of the turret and let the shrapnel go down through the top armor and light up the ammo rack. If they don't fix the over pressure stuff before the next round of BR changes we might see those days again.

I think the most egregious thing I've experienced with the new HE was something I did entirely by accident the other day. I went back to play Britain which was my first nation way back when I was inept at the game and I hadn't realised that my Cromwell 5 had 2 HE rounds loaded by default. I ran straight into an smk, aimed at its turret ring thinking I could knock one of the guns out with AP and accidentally instakilled it with an HE shell. A Cromwell HE shell.

Hey Odd! In the update, HVARs recived a MASSIVE buff. As in "you can kill ferdinands by hitting with a single HVAR" massive buff. I'd recommend you try the AM-1 with the 12 HVAR, 2 Tiny Tim, 1000lbs bomb loadout. It's devastating.

Tbh, HE really needed a rework... Claiming that it's op or "too much" is only going to cause the community to grab pitchforks and ask for a nerf. All that needs to happen is some BR adjustments on vehicles that get affecter too much by the changes, such as the 105 Sherman to 3.0 or 3.3. I don't usually make tank requests, but Odd, could you try one of the howitzer Panzer IVs? The HEAT is surprisingly good, you can pen the M4A3 105s frontal plate. Also killed KV-1s as well. With the fast reload, it's a winner.

It's not broken, it's intended. If you look at the stat card where the animation is, it shows that an HE round hits armor, does a big ole dent, and then just murders everything inside.
