Great reaction! Yeah, I was not prepared for Taemin either. Flash back to 2020 and seeing him in Criminal for the first time... Life changing, literally. End of 2023 and I still haven't moved on from him and his artistry. I recommend checking out his live concert performances; he is born to be on stage. Also, keep in mind that he has an extensive catalogue of songs in Japanese as well. They hit a little different than his Korean songs, but in my mind just as exquisite. Have fun exploring Taemin's work!

Taemin is a phenom in the kpop world. He debuted with SHINee at 14 and this has created the crown prince of kpop. Taemin has always done incredible performances with shinee and without.

His live preformances are insane! He dances on tilted stages with no harness and in his recent concert he opened it with the rizzness which he preformed UPSIDE DOWN on a stage that rotates 360°

That great sensation when we saw Taemin for the first time.... and then in each of his new work. NICEEEEEE.... He is nothing of the k-pop you know. You need to watch SHINee, his group since 15 years... He was 'born' in SHINee. They are great.
@snowsxintjr10 ай бұрын
I plan on doing so!

Yes! I’m so glad you checked him out and are enjoying both his music and his videos. He doesn’t have as many views because most of his fans are older now and we don’t have time to mass stream videos like the younger ones do. Also he’s been gone from Kpop for 2 years due to his military service and unfortunately Kpop fans typically only check out new or popular groups rather than the senior/experienced artists. He debuted during the 2nd generation of Kpop (at age 14!) with his group Shinee so compared to other groups/soloist from that generation he and Shinee are still doing pretty well. I hope more people will give him a try now that he’s back from the military so thank you for watching him! I’m looking forward to your future reactions 😊

wow thanks for the clarification ! I realized it after releasing the vid since I was told that he debuted early in like 2008 I assumed that he might have went to military. I am gonna keep looking through his projects and SHINee's ones in the future, including the second part of this video coming out tommorow

Taemin debuted as a soloist in 2014 and has MANY albums both in Korean and Japanese. If you put them all together, I think he has something like 12 total. However, Koreans make distinctions between EPs, mini-albums, and full studio albums. The Japanese albums are not counted at all within the Korean mix. Therefore, Taemin has 3 full studio albums and then the others are broken down by distinction. "Move" was the song/MV that broke Kpop. Seriously. Taemin just did what was routine for both him and his SHINee brothers. He smashed one of Koreas cultural norms and that was to have an androgynous-themed performance (meaning both male [Taemin] & female dancers performing together without segregation). It was the first of it's kind for a soloist, even though SHINee regularly have both male and female backup dancers. It created quite the stir and sensation throughout Korea and everyone started to get the "Move Disease". Just about every Korean celebrity rushed to cover the song and it kind of became a routine for other Kpop groups to cover it as well. Ironically, this song never won a single award despite it's insane popularity to this day. As far as Taemin was concerned, the risk was worth it. He stated quite plainly that "dance' was a verb; not a gender. He set out to make a point, and he accomplished his goal. "Criminal" ("NGDA", Act 1) introduces us to Taemin's full-on storyline that now spans three bodies of his work: "Never Gonna Dance Again , Acts 1 & 2" (AKA, "NGDA"); "Advice"; and "Guilty". While each album carries on the same theme, each of their title songs has a different concept to convey and build upon that theme. "Criminal's" theme is that of Stockholm syndrome where Taemin is both the "criminal" and the victim within his own mind. This is where Taemin's internal struggle between celebrity life with all the temptations and status it brings clashes with his faith-based worldview as a Christian. We see symbolism representing death (suffocation w/crows flapping around him) and resurrection (suffocation with butterflies flapping around him signifying a metamorphosis or rebirth) as well as a statue of him in the pose of the Cross (a classic Taemin pose), as well as many other meaningful symbolic images and metaphors within the lyrics. This 2-part album was co-produced and co-directed by Taemin himself as he wanted to make sure his vision was conveyed the way he envisioned it. Every song carries the same theme throughout the 2-part album. "IDEA" is the title song for "NGDA" Act 2 using the concept of Plato's Theory of Forms which states that no created being (or form) can create itself. Only an outside power/being can be the creator and only that creator (Messiah) can make or be perfection. This philosophy fits in perfectly with Taemin's Christian worldview. The MV is full of visions of Heaven (light) and Hell (dark) and the battle between the two. "Guilty" carries on this main storyline of his toxic struggle between the relationship of the two egos in his mind (indicated by the hand inside his shirt grabbing himself -- it's coming from inside himself): the demon tempting him with the perks of his celebrity life clashing with his Christian self desiring to adhere to his Christian worldview. The person clinging to the attendant's leg is Taemin himself. He's trying to cling to his faith-based identity. He digs his fingers into his flesh to feel pain and bring him back to, or hold onto reality. For this particular song/MV, Taemin indicated that he researched both "Demian" by Hermann Hesse and ""Erotism: Death and Sensuality" by Georges Bataille, a French philosopher. His concept is that of guilt and how humans process their guilt, especially with respect to dealing with toxic relationships. For Taemin, this is displayed through the character he plays of Abraxas (wearing a headdress and representing the gnostic demigod of a heretical sect, the Basilides, later referred to as a demon). However, Taemin also plays the character of himself being tormented by this demon who constantly plagues and entices him to go astray. The entire song is a dialogue between Abraxas and Taemin. During the dialogue, Taemin is struggling (the choreo) to fight off being possessed and swallowed completely by Abraxas. We see even more of this struggle in the performance video for "The Rizzness" which you've already reacted to. You clearly see the demon, "Abraxas" all in black alone signifying in the supernatural realm (with pointed ears, BTW) and Taemin dressed in white with backup dancers in the human realm. We see Taemin walking through institutions of his memory such as a school (which, as an introvert, he hated), hospital/mental institution (brainwashing), and training center (SM?), always being controlled and in situations that produce temptations to go against his values. If he is not constantly vigilant, "....when you've caught on (Abraxas), I'm already gone (Taemin)." In other words, he will lose himself instantly because the temptations are so appealing and addictive (as also illustrated in his MVs for "Want" & "Famous"). The "poison apple" is the bait, (again just like in "Want" & "Famous")..."want a bite?" "Just a little more, that's all it takes." "Gift you once as a bait, then I (Abraxas) take everything." The demon is the father of lies. The pre-chorus and chorus are actually further dialogue between Taemin and Abraxas: [Pre-chorus] Ooh-ooh (On that vague border between good and bad - Taemin) You played the fool for me - Abraxas (My judgment in the final moment - Taemin) [Chorus -- all Abraxas] Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh You got me G-U-I-L-T-Y - Trick and take everything from you Again, just playing a game all for fun Hundreds of lies Ooh yeah Taemin is the most unique artist you will find. The man is constantly reinventing himself and dreaming up spectacular live performances to blow our minds. He recently did his "Metamorph" concert in Korea and it was astounding. You can watch clips of individual performances of this concert on YT. Check out "Criminal" for why we call him the King of Kpop and the dance king of Kpop: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKqbZ2SKrbSmapY This is a man who sang "The Rizzness" and "Door" ( kzbin.infoFOfaBf7tFIE ) suspended from a platform upside down that then rotated to an upright position. He also has a custom, three-tiered independent lift stage built that can tilt up to 45-degrees which he performs on. It's just crazy what he will to pass on his messages to us.
