The Pro Chess League is a $150,000 16-player team tournament taking place on Chess.com, featuring Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Anish Giri and many more top players. The first five weeks are a Swiss tournament that will see half the teams eliminated before the Playoffs, which are an 8-team knockout.
Each team has 6-10 players, but only 4 play each week, with an average rating cap of 2550 and at least one woman in each line-up. Each member of the team plays each member of the opposing team at 10+2 rapid chess. In case of a tie the players play another round of games at a faster time control.

I always try to watch the game on another channel before watching agadmator because he always spoils the result. In this game, I watched Nepo repeatedly move his bishop back and forth, and couldn't figure out why he was doing that. It occurred to me he was just toying with Levon and Levon was praying for a draw. Then I came here, and Antonio explained it.

After Levon called the arbiter for a 3-fold repetition Nepo probably decided to troll and tease him by repeating those bishop moves for as long as possible. The continued repetitions were Nepo's way of calling Levon out for pointlessly interrupting the game.

bobby fischer was right, chess 960 or another variation should be the official format of chess in the 21st century. too much of the opening memorization and the engines have removed the romance from the game. if chess 960 were the format i bet magnus would defend his title. the fact that he isn't going to magnifies the shallowness of the game.

@@dgaunn4114 i think hikaru won the last 960 championship. i don't know if that makes him "the best" but he currently holds the title.

No reason to call the game shallow just because Magnus is bored with some aspects of it.

@@jg-reis i'm calling it shallow because it's grown shallow after so many years of research, preparations, and engines. bobby agreed and i'm guessing magnus does too. it's time for a change.
