I've heard this song probably more than 1000 times, I've never looked up the lyrics. I am usually a geek about lyrics, but have always just rocked out to this song without paying attention. I noticed during the video this verse: "Take another second Turn your back on me and make believe that You're always happy It's safe to say you're never alive A big part of you has died And by the way, I hope you're satisfied" Paired with the chorus: "I'm alive, for you. I'm awake, because of you." I'm thinking about how we go about life, day to day, feeding our desire so easily, constantly in satisfaction to the point we are less likely to undertake big goals that require such a delay in satisfaction. Living in comfort, it's safe to say we're never alive, a big part of us is dead, but we're satisfied. He, himself is singing for our satisfaction, to profit, to make money. But even more, I think he's talking from the perspective of the evil behind desire, comfort, and satisfaction. Personally, I tend to remain in my comfort zone, feeding my desire of entertainment, staying comfortably satisfied. Occasionally, I wish I would go out and meet people, maybe find a woman and get on with life. But, I've fell into my comfort zone, probably because of fear of being hurt, after my last failed relationship, and it's been more than 5 years since I've wanted to date more than my fear of being hurt. It's safe to say a big part of me is dead.
