In the first round of the 1982 NFL playoffs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the Dallas Cowboys. And after the game, Buccaneers safety Neal Colzie spoke to the press by saying the dumbest thing ever. Because apparently, in his eyes, the Cowboys stunk, were not a good team, and the Bucs should represent the conference in the playoffs instead... even though the Cowboys won? We're breaking down his asinine comments and logic today

Doug Williams was 0-6 as a starter against the Cowboys for his career - games which included Tom Landry's last ever win in 1988, and Jimmy Johnson's first ever win in the pro game in 1989.

The Buccaneers were a total joke franchise under Hugh Culverhouse (yes I've watched the UrinatingTree documentary about the man)

When I was a kid the name that rang of ineptitude was Culverhouse. And as a redskin fan I was thankful for that not happening to them. And then 1999 came and Daniel Snyder said hold my bud light. 🤷🏾‍♂️

And after Colzie made those comments, The Big Man Upstairs made it so that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wouldn't have another winning season for 15 years.

I'm going to say something about the Bucs in this game that I never, ever say: The Bucs should have run the ball more.

This reminder that JG also did a vid on Tyrone Wheatley dumping all over the Ravens D, the one that allowed one touchdown in three playoff games and the Super Bowl--and also him seven yards on 12 carries (yes Bobby Hoying was their leading rusher with 13 yards, half their rushing output)

I was just a baby at the time. Finding out that this the way Doug Williams' stint with the Bucs ended made this loss sting even more. That game wasn't even as close as the 2-score margin indicated as the Cowboys outgained the Bucs by more than 2 to 1. I don't know what Colzie was thinking when he spoke to the media after this loss because his team couldn't hold up in the 4th quarter when it had a chance to get its lick back.

I didn't realize that Neal Colzie was good in the NFL. I just remember seeing his buckeye tree in the Buckeye All-American Grove.

Colzie had an interesting statline for the Raiders. He played 56 games over four seasons, with 6 starts and 10 INTs. He was a backup cornerback, and I assume he had to also be the team's nickel DB given that he had more interceptions than starts.

7:39 - Doug Williams with a 16.2 QBR. Which is worse than if you did nothing but spike the ball into the ground on every single play. Doug Williams would be the MVP for Super Bowl XXII five years later as QB for the Washington Redskins against the Denver Broncos. #JaguarGator9

Poor Neal colzie-he had a big mouth 👄-I have a complaint about the captioning-it’s a bit sloppy! The defensive player is called a quarterback when he’s really a cornerback-whose fault is it?? Not jg9! He said that right! 👀😮😮😮😅

Colzie had a horrible way with words. But he was trying to say that TB was the better team even if Dallas won. Did he say it well? No, is it bad for a player to have that confidence in his team? Also No. That being said maybe he shouldn’t have been put in front of a mic.
