Epic is correct... Alanis' best song I feel... this song evokes all kinds of emotions and imagery, but when it reaches it's intense crescendo it almost has Led Zeppelin's 'Kashmir' vibe, it's cinematic in it's scope.

There's a haunting motif stressed by three notes: G, B flat, and B. And then when the orchestra kicks in, you get this Arabian/Egyptian vibe. Very DISSONANT TENSION!!!
@dggydddy592 жыл бұрын
Which notes are you referring to? You can't mean that 4 note pattern on the piano that repeats throughout the song? Because then you'd mean Eb Bb B and Bb, assuming your Bb and B are correct, which let's just assume they are. Not having perfect pitch, I can't tell what key this is in just by listening, I only have relative pitch. Or did you mean 3 other notes? Just curious, not attacking. Cheers!

The whole song is influenced by Eastern/Indian music. Not just the strings, but also the percussion (Indian tabla) and the verse melody, second verse in particular. This was the first song Alanis released after her trip to India, and the influence is clear.
