He Mocked Tiny Humans - Lives to Regret It HFY Sci Fi Short Story

Barely reaching their enemies' knees, seemingly helpless humans repeatedly frustrate a ruthless interstellar empire. With covert mobile forces, inexplicable technology and sheer tenacity, they repel assault after assault. Only when the aliens commit their entire war machine to conquer Earth do humans unveil continent-shattering hyperspace artillery. Though humanity easily achieves total victory, their leader offers reconciliation instead of vengeance to the defeated enemy commander, inaugurating unprecedented galactic peace.

@labelledamedumanor4876 IMO they were all at the same, or near same, technological level. Spanish Armor, Gunpowder and Horses were something the Aztecs had never seen before, and gave the Spaniards huge advantages.

@@FMJellico You are mostly incorrect. You are correct in that the Spanish brought those to the Americas. You are incorrect in your assumption of their advantages. With the exception being armor. The natives of the Americas learned how to both obtain and use guns and horses as soon as they came here. In fact all "wild" horses in the Americas are actually feral ones whos ancestors came here as domesticated horses from Europe. The people of the Americas also learned the disadvantages of horses and gunpowder right away as well. Namely that horses take a ton of work to keep them in good condition and that guns didn't work when wet and had long reload periods. They adjusted their tactics to follow. Simply put the real advantage that the Europeans had was in swords and armor. When you ACTUALLY LOOK at history instead of having the Lowest Common Denominator version pumped into your head by morons, you would have learned this.

Here's my idea for a follow-up: The Jaynari Emperor learns of the defeat of his finest General & his surrendering to the humans. He is FURIOUS! He rages at his oldest advisor, who happens to be Zika Hu'ul's father, countless generations of the Hu'ul family served the Unbroken Royal Family Lineage, the terrified advisor attempts to calm his master down, no easy feat here as the Emperor was known to be quick to anger, 1 wrong move will cost you your life. JAYNARI EMPEROR: "Zika Hu'ul did WHAAAAAATTT!!!! UNFORGIVABLE!!!! WITHOUT CONSULTING ME AS WELL! When he returns, i'll have him stripped of his title & HIS HIDE!" (Being skinned alive was the worst most agonising form of execution on Jaynar) ADVISOR: "Your majesty, please I BEG YOU! HAVE MERCY! I believe THEY made him do it through some form of deceitful trick.... at least consider questioning him first." EMPEROR: (Still fuming) "Very well, but don't think your son will get off lightly." Zika Hu'ul returns to Jaynar, the Emperor demanding his immediate presence, of course he expected this to occur. Infuriating his Royal Master only brought immediate harsh punishments, entering the throne room he prostrates himself before the emperor, his forehead mere inches away from the lowest step leading to the gigantic throne the emperor sat on. The emperor, seething with anger, said in a quiet but fury laden voice.... EMPEROR: "You do understand why I sent for you, it concerns what you did. Bow to a lesser being, swearing never to fight again? WHAT POSESSED YOU TO MAKE SUCH A VOW? YOU NEVER THOUGHT TO CONSULT ME!" ZIKA HU'UL: "Master, please I humbly beg you to hear me out, we took the humans for granted, they are not as weak as they appear to be. They combine strength with intelligence, what they lack in they more than make up for with other skills in abundance. I admit I may have acted in haste, if you see fit to put me to death, so be it. But please, I beg you to consider peace with the humans, as my final request. On the bridge, I had the privilege of speaking to none other than the human president, yes, the old one looked frail but he carried a strong soul. (Zika sobbed) I saw YOU IN THOSE EYES!" Zika clawed at his own head, expecting the emperor to roar out his death & the manner it would take form. But the old Emperor remained silent for some time, EMPEROR: "Zika, your father has headed to the Grand Temple, he prays for you, believing you will be executed as a traitor, go to him & tell him your punishment has yet to be decided. Join him in his prayers if you desire, go now." The Warlord obeys & makes his way to the Temple, the only building taller & bigger than the Imperial Palace. The Emperor is left reeling, a small frail body carrying a mighty soul? This has to be a joke, he decides there & then to contact this human ruler, THAT would aid in his decision to how to punish his foolish servant. He does this & after the ensuing conversation, he is FLOORED! Zika spoke the truth, the humans are deceptively strong. He decides to make the peace official, yes, he sent scores of warriors to battle & very few returned, it will go badly if it continues. The day arrives, at a Ceremony, the Peace is finalised, the Emperor gifts the President a Human Sized battle armour complete with sword & shield, modelled on the armour of his Empire's Founder, the President gifts the Emperor a Large Banner with the many flags of the human nations sewn into it. The armour is displayed in a Museum on Earth & the Jaynari Homeworld has the Banner hanging in it's Museum too. Zika is not executed, he has been pardoned & has a new purpose, no longer a warlord but now an Ambassador & dedicates his free time to studying human history. He is FLOORED AT THE REVELATION! Centuries of Warfare honed these creatures to the peak, the war spirit of their forebears shining forth from their eyes. Indeed, it was wise to accept the peace terms.

I'm getting really tired of these stories where aliens come out of nowhere, nearly wipe out humanity and at the last moment humanity rolls over and says there's nothing to forgive.
