This is an amazing movie. It is everything that someone like me, who wishes for a movie to make me feel happy, wants. The whale the size of an island was so sad that it was chained up. I think the ultimate message from this movie is don't let your own jealousy overtake you. The king had it all but couldn't stand someone young and happy be a good person and for people to embrace that. I feel bad for the king because I know old people are grumpy for many reasons. It still doesn't give a reason to act like that, but tbh the king is probably is pain and suffering from dementia. Think about it, back in the midevil days where kings and queens ruling was the normal. Back then they didn't have pain medicine and modern technology or medication. The victorian ages were absolutely stupendous lmao. Anyway, good movie I rate 98/100

The great whale from the third task seems to be based on the Lyngbakur ("Heather-Back") from Icelandic folklore, one of several species of legendary Illhveli ("evil whales"). Unlike most of the other Illhveli that like to intentionally sink ships & kill people, the Lyngbakur seems to only kill humans by accident when sailors land upon its back while mistakenly believing the resting whale is an uninhabited island and try to start a fire, which immediately causes the Lyngbakur to submerge in order to extinguish the flame (which seems to match up with the general feel of this movie's great whale).

The movie is based in russian folklore and i think a story called the humpback horse a old russian children story. Its pretty normal for old folktales from different cultures to have similar themes, really interesting to hear how similar they are. In the russian fary tale the wale is called Chewdo-Youdo, he swallowed the ships to to protect himself and the sun and the moon are punishing the whale for killing the people not knowing that the people still live inside the whale. In Icelandic folklore, is there a story about a frog (or other ugly thing) transforming into someone/something beautiful because of love? thats for example a really common theme :)

This is also a story in British folklore too, its featured in the book of Kells but has more of a morality lesson, essentially warning people to be aware of their surroundings, unwary sailors land on an island and plant a flag at the centre only for it to be an angered whale which sinks back into the ocean killing the sailors in the process

He was willing to sacrifice his life for his friend to live an be happy I was like tearing up when they said he wouldn't make but when princess said it was test the flower uses yo see who's real an who's a fake friend an that the horse will make i screamed in relief. If he heed the horse all the time, then the character doesn't have much character. He wouldn't have any agency and would have been essentially a donkey as he would be pulled along by the horse's advice. I know it's painful to see this kind of guy, but it would be much more so watching a guy that's basically a slave.

@abloogywoogywoo what a terrible lesson to teach people. It's okay to be so stupid you endanger yourself and others, but as long as you think you're doing the right thing, things should work out just fine. That's not how the real world works. Yeah, it's all great and dandy to do the right thing, but you have to be smart enough not to tell what is right ans what is wrong. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Do you really think Hitler saw himself as the bad guy in his own mind? He legit thought he was making the world a better place by getting rid of the Jews. He thought he was the Hero and everyone else was just too stupid to see the same things as him except the people he brainwashed and indoctrinated. Ivan is manipulated through the whole movie because he's too stupid to realize his quests are given to him by a literal manchild who wants him killed. In the real world, magical talking horses won't save your ass when you mess up. The movie literally relies on magic to make sure the idiocy of the protagonist doesn't result in death. Maybe people should take away that our world doesn't have magic to save you from being too big of a moron.

We need more of these types of fantasy movies in this crazy times. Everyone is so negative & depressed that a story like this gives one a small bit of hope that humanity will shine thru. Also to portray a mini horse/donkey as one of main characters is the highlight of my fantasy. Hopefully whoever made this movie will have the means to make another one. That fire bird’s design is actually almost 1 to 1 with the appearance of a real animal. It’s called a Secretary Bird from Africa.

Movie Name is Upon The Magic Roads (2021). Sweet. Added to my list. I think I read about this story some years ago. The difference being that, it was a donkey & it dipped it's tail into a liquid & robbed its tail on the MC to help him survive the execution. GREAT movie review. You do the best sci-fi/fantasy movie reviews on youtube. Would be crazy to think that, drinking the tears of these magical creatures would gimme super powers? YOU'RE AWESOME! BEST REGARDS!

Shout out to the Russian film makers for displaying traditional and historic Russian clothing in a very accurate way, and having it be so colourful, every medieval film made in the west, has to be dark, damp and grey scaled to hell and back as if colour wasn't invented back in the medieval period, it's nice to see how medieval streets would have been just as vibrant as walking through any city in the modern world

This reminds me of Shrek. A fairy tale, a man and his horse do tasks, bonds with the animal, he gets a princess for an old guy and falling in love with her in the process. So I guess it's a russian version of Shrek
