Bradley McMullan is living the bus enthusiast dream in England. In his collection of no less than 6 buses, he has THREE Mercedes Benz O405s. And they are all from the same company, Black Prince, which closed in 2005.
The Mercedes Benz O405 chassis is quite rare in England although it was common in other places such as Germany, Singapore and Greece to name a few.
In this video, there will be a showcase of the bus followed by an interview with Bradley and we find out what exactly he does with the buses. And it's pretty heart warming!

What a beautiful collection of legendary vehicles ! In Braga, Portugal, the urban network still has about 40 of O405N Mercedes buses from 1998, the low floor version and a few O405GN (the articulated low floor version). Still as of today, a lot of private operators in Portugal have some O405 from the mid 80's to the early 90's in their fleet, as well as the suburban versions, O407 and O408. They've always preferred buying old used vehicles and maintaining them really well. It's really a pleasure to go there and still be able to see one of the greatest bus models still in heavy commercial use.

Now THIS is how you preserve buses, absolutely top notch! I agree with Bradley, this hobby is only getting more and more expensive as time goes on. I am determined to preserve my own bus (MAN 11.190 w/ Designline bodywork), but at this point the lack of affordable storage options, myself not having the required license, ongoing costs of maintenance and other regulatory and legal requirements etc really has made me hit the brakes - though once I'm a driver myself by the end of the year I hope that I can be well on the way to bringing back memories of our former operator for all to enjoy. 😁

First Scotland East (First Edinburgh) operated buses that had the Mercedes-Benz O405 front were Optare Prismas, Wright Cityrangers and one Alexander Cityranger. L140MAK (Wright Cityranger) and K473EDT (Alexander Cityranger) were both new as demonstrators. SMT and Lowland purchased the Optare Prismas while Midland Bluebird purchased the Wright Cityrangers. First Aberdeen (Grampian Regional Transport) also operated buses that had the Mercedes-Benz O405 front were Optare Prismas, Wright Cityrangers and Alexander Cityranger bendybuses which all came with air conditioning.

@@glitchFan2428 All the First Scotland East (First Edinburgh) and First Aberdeen Mercedes-Benz O405s have been scrapped with the exception of K1 GRT. L140 MAK (originally a demonstrator) was numbered 58 in the First Scotland East fleet and later numbered as 62347. K473 EDT (originally a demonstrator) was numbered as 51 in the First Scotland East fleet and later numbered as 62297. 62403 (P876 YKS) was the last surviving Mercedes-Benz O405 (Optare Prisma) in the First Scotland East fleet until it was destroyed in an arson attack at Dalkeith depot in November 2011. First Edinburgh received 5 Optare Prismas from First Aberdeen for their Scottish Borders services. Those buses were N535 VSA (numbered as 35, later 62281), N536 VSA (36, later 62283), N537 VSA (37, later 62284), N538 VSA (38, later 62286) and N539 VSA (39, later 62287).

I miss the days where the O405s ruled the roads with their loud ZF, voith & W3E transmissions. I remember taking them at the old Bedok / tampines interchange everyday back in 2008( 22,33, 60, 66, 67,228,854,969)Now the closest thing we have to them are the Citaros & A22s, luckily I was able to catch one in Bangkok while on vacation just 2 weeks ago.😀

Curious to know if individual like us as a Singaporean can ride any of this O405s if we visit England in the far future, it's been so long since I ride one... If you visit England over Christmas you will most definitely be able to go for a ride on the bus 😁 Apart from that there are running days scattered throughout the year (but usually during the summer) in which you can go for a ride on the buses as well 👍🏻

I have to say that I was a little bit surprised that this guy wasn't german, even though he's a big Mercedes-Benz fan and owns 3 buses, which are all 100% german. 🇩🇪😁😉👌 In Germany there are several bus enthusiasts who own an old O405 or several. If you're a big fan of O405 Mercedes, I warmly recommend that you study at least a little bit german, I think In Germany It's also many Mercedes-Benz O405 fan clubs, where membership includes surely several 405 owners who are happy to organize pleasure rides for enthusiasts with their O405s. For german enthusiasts is that bus model the same thing as Leyland Lynx for brits. More or less Germany's Leyland Lynx! 😊👌🇩🇪🚍
