Taemin is not your typical Kpop idol. As with his group SHINee and their experimental bent, he's the most unique, experimental, and innovative Kpop soloist out there. Being the maknae of SHINee, he's absorbed all of their talent and exploded with it, especially since Onew & Jonghyun basically taught Taemin how to sing. I strongly suggest you react to the dance practice for this song. It will show you just how unique and fluid his dancing is. For me, he's the best dancer in Kpop and the best soloist. This song/MV is the sister song to "Criminal" and the continuation of Act 1. It represents the rebirth/resurrection of Taemin with a new, enlightened Ego. The concept for this song is Plato's philosophical Theory of Forms, hence the Greek pronunciation of the words "Idea" and "Messiah". Taemin is very intellectual and this is reflected in his concepts. The Theory is basically that any material form can only achieve perfection if it comes from a higher power outside the material thing/form itself. This fits in perfectly with Taemin's Christian worldview. What makes Taemin uniquely TAEMIN? Is the current Taemin perfect or is there more? The present ego (Evil) thinks he's the one who can achieve perfection on his own without any outside influence or is already perfect. There is no more to strive for. He is presently the perfect IDEA of Taemin. The newly-emerging ego (Good) has been held prisoner stifled by the stagnant present ego and thinks maybe there is something more to aspire to and a greater power outside himself - "Messiah" (part of Plato's Forms Theory). This realization creates even more conflict. So with "IDEA" you have the climactic battle between the two competing egos inside Taemin's head. In the end, Taemin's new ego breaks out of that prison of false reality (Hell) in his mind in order to resurrect into something better. The old IDEA of Taemin is killed and shaken off. A new, enlightened IDEA of Taemin (Heaven) has begun. This is perfectly illustrated through the lyrics and the imagery of the MV. Another extreme example of this type of performance/lyrical duality is his MV for "Want". That one, on the surface, seems to be all about tempting his fans or a woman. However, it's actually a retelling of Genesis 3 with a hint of the salvation message at the very end. Again, it's quite deep for those who know what to look for and want to take the time to find it.

How does Taemin have the time? He debuted in 2008 at the age of 14 with SHINee, started doing solo projects in 2014; during Onew, Key, and MinHo's time in the military, he was "outsourced" to supergroup "Super M" in 2019 as a "spy" (per MinHo, haha); he continued with his solo projects, releasing an EP in 2020. When Onew, Key and MinHo were discharged, SHINee planned their long-awaited comeback and Shawols were gifted with a 7th album in February 2021. It seems like he's everywhere, but he's been active in the industry for 13 years - that's a LONG time in K-POP time, bridging 2nd gen, 3rd gen and now we're in 4th generation. Most if not all Taemin fans and Shawols will tell you he's happiest as maknae with SHINee - he's joyful, playful, relaxed, grinning ear-to-ear, pulling pranks. K-POP idols revere him; they say he's your idol's idol - offstage, he's a sweet, gentle, humble guy who is also this incredible artist. He deserves the love he receives.

You definitely need to check out the majority of Taemin’s MVs, cause there’s literally no skip in his solo career. You ask how he manages to combine his solos with group activities... Well, Taemin’s dream from the beginning was to be a solo artist. He ended up being in a group cause that’s the specific of being a part of SM Entertainment, you simply don’t debut as solo artist there. Besides he was far too young (only 14 years old when he debuted) and needed to hone his skills. But SM very quickly saw his potential and made his solo debut when he was only 21(!) with a great album Ace with the title track Danger, which you absolutely need to check out!!! From that point in he only gets better and better! Please check out: Danger, Drip Drop, Press Your Number (not the actual MV, but performance video #2), Move, Thirsty, Want. And after that go to his Japanese discography which is equally amazing - Sayonara Hitori and Famous are a must, but there’s more. Taemin is a workaholic. His capability to work nonstop on his music, concepts and skills is simply out of this world. I’m looking forward to more Taemin reactions!

SO recommendations yes: WANT - Press Your Number - Danger - THIRSTY (please this one is absolutely amazing) - Drip Drop (there is a performance video) - 2KIDS and Think Of You (both are filmed in Paris, my french a** has still not recovered but I'm thus obviously going to recommend them lol, tho Think Of You has a vlog-ish style, I think you'll like the editing a lot) doesn't have an MV but live performance: Love - I suggest watching his performance for MAMA 2016 after listening to: Guess who - Soldier - Goodbye, those three songs are amazing and the performance is dope. Japanese side (because he did a lot of Japanese work, he's adored there) but you'll take copyright for thee so either patreon or watch them by yourself, but they deserve a lot of attention: さよならひとり (sayonara hitori): a goddamn movie MV wise, if you want incredible visuals Flame of Love: also a movie, the visuals are absolutely INSANE Under My Skin: a 'simpler' MV but it fits the song amazingly Famous: you remember criminal? Yeah - same kind of idea behind the MV I honestly hope you check his Japanese work even tho it can be a pain in the a** for the copyright but it will exceed any kind of expectation you might have MV wise.
