@@michpfeffer1197 Even then your notes probably don’t come out right, it depends on where you got it and the price. I can tell you personally that Amazon flutes won’t work as well as a concert flute bought from a instrument manufacturer. But this isn’t to bash you, but if you plan on continuing the flute you’ll probably have to change the flute eventually either because of your notes not coming out correctly or you get to the point where you need the flute that is longer than the f concert flute. This is just a suggestion if you plan on continuing the flute, you don’t have to listen to me this is just my personal thoughts but if you do decide to buy from a instrument manufacturer, Jupiter and Yamaha have great f concert flutes!

For only learning in an hour and having distracting challenges thrown at you, you did really good! I’ve been playing flute since I was 11 years old and I remember learning so much of this over weeks in my hour long school band class. The first song we played was ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb” as it encompassed everything we had learned at that point and that was at the end of September. So great job on accomplishing so much so quickly! Also I love the colorful flute! I wish they had had those when I was growing up. My flute is just a silver one that my grandparents bought for me.

(i guess i can say i'm a flutist, but) I'd like to give advice for when you play your flute, try to connect your notes while playing in stead of having to take so many breaths of air, so before playing take a big breath of air so you can still use that same air stream to help play more notes. if it tends to be hard you can practice blowing a piece of paper as long as you can or maybe holding your breath-? (shoot i'm not good at explaining things hahah) also don't push yourself too hard to learn, it'll take time, I've been a band student for almost about a year, i may not have that good of an experience but watching videos and asking other flute players for help can help improve more. other than i think you did amazing on your first try!! This is why a flute is one of the hardest woodwinds to play (especially low notes for me at least) 1. The fact he probably doesn't even have the flute put together right 2. Hes probably blowing different temperature air through the flute doesn't help him play 3. Him hiking it with one hand gives me anxiety 4. The fact he doesn't have his fingers in the right places 5. He doesn't know how to read notes 6. Him trying to trill isn't working quite right 7. He's not blowing enough air through the flute 8. He doesn't have a solid sound 9. He surprisingly didn't get light headed 10. He doesn't know the difference between notes

I am someone who has been playing the flute for 6 years, I am very amazed at how fast you learned on the basics, I have some tips for anyone who wants to learn or know any of the tips 1.) for example when you do b flat you have three fingers two is your pointer and one is your thumb the rest you have are up so you can make the note, I would suggest having your fingers that you aren't using not that high because if you are new and you have them to where they are pointing all the way up and since you might not fully know the notes then you will have a small delay to the music you are playing. Since I have memorized the notes I have them all the way up because it is easier for me. However everyone is different, I was one of those people that heard something and knew how to play it so I kept the fingers I wasn't using high to where it would help me not make a wrong note. 2.) if you are starting out I would suggest listening to some professional videos to know how each note should sound, there are some apps you can download that can help you tune your flute to the write sound. 3.) before I started to play the flute I would read the sheet music because some of the notes are very hard to read, the notes that were hard to read where off the 5 lined scale and it was complicated because you would forget what not is what and when you go higher off the scale or lower off the scale you would have to make it sound high or lower depending on what you are doing (higher notes would be higher same thing with lower notes but the notes would get lower) 4.) the flute is one of the hardest interments to learn and it takes months to fully understand the whole interment. It also depends on how motive you are to learning it, that is one of the things that is most important, it took me about 3 weeks to fully understand everything because I had so much patients and motivation to play it and I was inspired by many people who played it. 5.) if your someone who has been playing the flute for awhile you might start making the notes with your fingers without the flute at random times and you might not even notice you are doing it, your mind is trying to remember how to do the notes without looking at a sheet of music that has the notes and how to play it. If your someone who does not do that it is okay, our minds work differently than others. I started to notice me doing it around my 2nd year and I still do it to this day but that's because I dont want to forget how to play the notes or its just me reliving my anxiety and stress, its one of my ways to help me focus more when I have nothing to fidget with. 6.) It is very easy to forget the notes for some people, so you need a lot of patients to play the flute. 7.) At some point you might not need to look at anything to play a song, I have memorized so many songs because of how many times I have played it but I would suggest having the sheet music still with you just in case you forget a note. I am one of those people that dont forget how to play the song because I have a teacher that plays the flute and I learn by hearing so when they would do a certain note I would memorize how it would sound, and how long it should be, and how high or low it is supposed to be but I still have the sheet of music out just in case if I do mess up. I close my eyes and play when I dont need to look at the music. 8.) I would recommend asking your teacher to help you on certain notes because there are some notes that you use your pinky finger on, and if you played it for a long time most of the notes you play don't use your pinky finger. So if you have a problem with using it then you need to let your teacher know. 9.) if you have a few stickers that are same and different colors I would suggest you asking your teacher if you can put stickers on some of the notes you are having trouble with because it will help you learn the notes. For example, if I had a problem with Mi (D) I would grab the piece of paper that shows you how to do the fingering and I would apply the stickers on your flute to where it says to have your fingers on (I would apply the stickers to the the first middle finger, the first ring finger, the second pointer finger, the second middle finger and the second ring finger, and your thumb) But if you have two notes that has one of the fingers I would cut both the stickers in half. If you guys have any tips you can reply to this comment or if you like the tips I gave you guys and they helped you can also let me know by replying to this comment I hoped this helped you guys :D

Being a flute student *will be hard at the start, but as you keep learning, you will improve* and play notes and songs you like. The basic one that you can play is Hot Cross Buns on the *full flute,* as I mean with the head joint, body, and foot joint altogether.

(Joel did better than I did the first time I tried to play.) Honestly, I think you should keep playing, just tweak your embouchure and you'll be golden.

Every instrument is hard and you were really good for only one hour of practise ! I'm a clarinetist and I know how difficult it is to have a great sound. And even if you know how to blow in your instrument, you need enough strength in your lung to maintain the right blow. One of the exercices I had to do was to maintain as long as possible an A5 paper on a wall just by blowing on it. Maybe this will be easier for you because you are a singer, but for most of people exeed 3 seconds is hard. PS : I was one of the few people which have a real sound the very first time I blew in a clarinet, and I'm proud of this.

In the beginning from what I learned about flute in band before I switched to saxaphone is that when making sounds sound non slurred you gotta bake that "hot or hut" sound with the tounge touching the roof of your mouth.

That is awesome for ONE hour! This was really fun to watch. My mom had a flute like this, Dwarsfluit in dutch, and as a kid I tried and tried to get a proper tone out of it, eventually I did. BUT, my brain just would NOT comprehend my hands and fingers being somewhere beside me... my head kept wanting to turn to look at my fingers properly, but then I couldn't blow the flute right... Oh I tried...and tried,...Because I absolutely LOVE the sound of this particular kind of flute. But no, my brain just wouldn't "map" the positions of my hands and fingers. I'm more of a drummer. ;-)

In the summer between third grade and fourth grade, I taught myself how to play flute and how to read sheet music. Pretty proud I'd done that. Got into the arts academy and later honor band. To be fair, it certainly wasn't done in an hour. lol. Fun to watch you attempt this. Not sure if you could play any woodwind instruments going into this and flute is pretty unique itself with the way the mouth piece works. *shrug*

Tips from a flautist= 1. Smile a bit and glue the inside of your lips together 2. Line up the blow hole and the buttons on the body 3. Curve your fingers, much easier 4. Hold the flute quite hard against your bottom jaur (I can't spell ik) I'm grade 3 and been doing it for 2 years so u did well!
