It was the IBB regime that sowed the seed of corruption in Nigeria. It was IBB that threw out the top Nigerian Military Patriots. Most of them, he gave political appointments and from there he will just dissolve the Federal Exco at will. Rumour has it that once in Ghana, when officers were complaining about lack of promotions, Jerry Rawlings responded with "I could send you to Nigeria where you can become Generals within a few years." The birth of 419 Scams was during this same regime with lots of support from top Military officers. Extra judicial killings were all over Nigeria. The C-130 crash that killed hundreds of Majors/Lt Cols with stories of how some scheduled officers were warned not to be on that plan and they were saved. IBB played with Nigeria over trying to get even with MKO over stolen wealth belonging to Liberia. Money that Samuel Doe stole and brought to IBB in case something goes wrong the money should be given to his wife. When Doe was killed by Johnson, Doe's wife came to IBB .......... It was during this regime that evil secret cults flourished over all the secondary Institutions. The cash for grades, the buy my handouts for grades. The Religious single honors Degree becoming a Bank Manager etcetera etcetera. Before the IBB Regime, there was nowhere within Nigerian roadblocks where you could experience or hear about a Soldier collecting bribe. IBB made Nigeria a monster in the site of the World. He was known as the Godfather, the one who makes offers you can't refuse. You refusal comes with consequences. Bello was the hand of IBB period.

Once the president (Babangida) was safe, there was NO reason for Bello to return to the presidential palace to fight the coup plotters. Bello (and the president) should have emergency called the rest of the army to fight the coup plotters, and Bello should have quietly observed (from a distance) what the coup plotters were doing & who they were.
@okechukwuirokanjo8323 Жыл бұрын
He needed to do that it is part of the duty of an ADC. If he had observed from the distance and things go wrong he will be obliged to fight for his boss position and secure the government. He wasn't the only one fighting the coup plotters but he was unlucky to be gunned down by the conspirators

@@valentineiwuchukwu6473 Well, it is true that Hindsight is easy, BUT, in this particular case, Bello did not need hindsight to know that returning to the presidential palace was NOT necessary as an emergency (since Bello knew at that time that the president was safe). And, knowing this fact (for both Bello & president), at that time, means they could have used other options.

Get your facts right. one person cannot operate a Tank. A tank has a crew of at least 4 people, and the guns do not have firing pins, they fire shells and canon not bullets and you cannot shoot someone thru a tank that is armoured. a tank crew consist of a driver, a navigator, a loader and gunner
@tamarakepreyeomgbuayakimi.2841 Жыл бұрын
Me too I wonder ohhh, a tank firing pin??? If it was a gun fine , esp pistol, a tnk crew consist of a commander , a loader , a Gunner, a Navigator i.e the range finder .
@dewamunaji Жыл бұрын
Bello was actually standing half way out on the tanker. After it was discovered that the tankers were out of order, he was shouting orders when Lt Mukoro heard the shouting and asked who was that. On hearing it was the President's ADC that was countering orders, he gave the order for Bello to be shot. He died on the tanker.

His return to fighting the coup plotters was stupid and an attempt at playing a hero -- it cost him his life. He had done his job excellently by saving the first family, he should have continued with watching after them, not playing a Rambo. The narrator's claim that ADCs are envied by their course mates and seniors is a silly conjecture not backed by evidence. Being an ADC is just another military posting; to the contrary it is a tasking job that overworks the appointed. It demands sleep deprivation, extreme physical and mental fitness, and ability to stand and walk around for long durations, so it is not something that folks look forward to as conveyed by this amateur narrator.
