Many years ago at my local pub, a young lad was always outside (packet of crisps/bottle of pop situation [his father was an alcoholic]). He knew I fished and would talk to me about it. One day, I gave him a rod, reel, and a keepnet, etc. He was over the moon, a real polite kid. (In fairness, his father brought him up properly, but unfortunately, with not many material things). He must be in his mid/late 30's now, and i see him occasionally. He is still passionate about fishing and goes regularly. (Apparently Rod license sales are plummeting so I would encourage everyone to get kids involved in the hobby)

rod license sales are down because to many anglers dont bother because of lack of checks

Another great video, love to see youngsters with enthusiasm for angling, a few years ago i used to run matches for under 16's on our local lake, they were great days and everyone left with at least a medal and some tackle donated by our local tackle shop. I did a lot of fishing when I was a kid...loved it. Recently my grandson's started he's 14 from Manchester, I live in Cornwall now, last time he came down I took him to a tackle shop in Penzance, the owners really nice guys gave him advice and I gave him some cash to get some gear, they went round with him and he got something to use for course fishing 🎣..I'm thinking if starting again, as I'm now retired and have plenty of time. Watching you today and the kids getting involved and giving the gear away, brilliant absolutely brilliant 👏 👍. I'm subscribed 👍

Those lads will never forget your gesture. Well done to Yorkshire Angling Supplies 👍 When I was a kid their age, I was down the park and noticed a fisherman packing his gear up. When he left I saw he'd left his landing net in the grass. I picked it up, run all the way up to him, and he never even thanked me for it. I may as well have kept it for myself! My dad promised me we'd go fishing after he'd finished collecting the weekly 3 volume Fisherman's Handbook. He fibbed to me. We never went.

For myself... life made it hard to keep fishing but the passion is still there. As a kid when you got this passion... Vacations are spend a lot at the water 😀 Can still know with a friend wen we where 14 to 18year we went fishing 3-4 days in the week during vacation. Just some maggots and corn all we needed to have fun. Leave around 10 and get back around 17h. My father always enjoyed it to pick us up. To bad the pond is now sold and not used for fishing anymore.. Can only hope to learn my kid to fish this summer.

I used to fish all the Yorkshire rivers and in fact always caught well a bit further down from here just below where the Foss comes in. However these days i'm pretty much done with rivers due to the crazy amounts of sewage being dumped. I will occasionally fish the swale and derwent but never after floods when it seems is the peak time for these kind of discharges Happening all over the country sadly. Nowadays my fishing is largely limited to stillwaters. Love fishing some of the large reservoirs for quality roach and pike but feel river fishing with the exception of a few honeypot stretches is over

Couldn't persuade May to come then ? Trent is 100yds from my flat, it is very like the Ouse in York, been very streamy and brown but is recovering from the snow melt etc. I have been an angler but tend to row on the river now but I do talk to anglers which takes them by surprise :) Great video
