It wasn't unusual for Pharaohs to do this to their previous rulers, but he had extra incentive because she was a woman. He wanted to erase any trace that such a powerful women ever existed, and to hide the fact that a woman was even able to achieve Pharaoh title in the first place. That's why her paintings are scratched off in the temple.
