J - I've watched literally tens of thousands of golf videos, and yours are by FAR the BEST! I only came across your videos a few weeks ago, but have already made exceptional progress with your tips and drills. Thank you so much for your devotion to the golfing commmunity!

Hi.great drill but how would you modify it for driver, where impact position does not have such a shaft lean? Thanks.
@jbnb3342 Жыл бұрын
Great video lesson. I had that exaggerated bump that eventually caused left side pain so bad that I couldn’t swing at all.I watched your lessons and noticed the straightening left leg through impact.I have no pain when I do the same. It would be a great topic to discuss what NOT to do in order to avoid injuries. Thanks!

I employed this drill in my practice session today using wedges and 9 iron for about an hour. Did not count the number of swings made, but it was many dozens. This drill provides new feels for a higher handicap seeking to improve contact. It focused me on where I'm supposed to be at impact. Over the course of practice I noted that while thin and fat did not disappear, those imperfections were greatly reduced. I could sense reprograming beginning to occur when I made full swings from standard P 1 as it supplies a target reference point to get to, that over an hour began to reprogram things. No question this drill took me to a new place. Very cool and will be my focus in practice going forward as based on today, new discoveries await. Thanks J.

Ok commentators and others reviewing comments here,; today I went back to the well....and found it filled with new sensations and the beginings of comprehension. It's hot and humid for my NE neck of the woods, so I only struck about 40 shots which started with about 5 sand irons, all preset impact position swings. Moved to 50 degree and until around ball 30 all were preset impact position swings . I found more left shoulder expansion and overall extension along my left side, more opening up. There were maybe 8 clunkers, most were thin, 1 was fat., but many of the presets were strongly struck, and reinforcement was definitely occurring. Only 1 full shot, at about ball 30, and smoke compressed it. Went back to the drill for the rest of the balls. Lots of teachers sell speed of learning following their emphasized points, but if you have done it wrong hundreds of thousands of times you are not going to transform overnight. There are new muscles and anatomical structures in play. It is a reprograming. So that understood, this is a process, and I respect J's emphasis that this may take months and thousands of reps. I felt new sensation and progress on that path today and know I will have to stick this out to ingrain a permanent replacement. The bottom line to me is fixing a problem I could not solve via other efforts, so if this drill makes me a more consistent ball striker 6 months from now, then it's a superb teacher. J thanks again, and I trust others will realize that if you want to get much better one has to do the right things, and stick with it. This preset impact drill is a definite improver, in spades.

Tried the drill today. Could not hit my hybrid with the half swing. I topped it again and again. But the first full swing!!!! I swear!!! I have never hit my hybrid like that. I could not feel hitting the ball. It was like cutting trough butter. What a drill! 😊

Can you explain the difference between the hip sway you cleared up for this guy and the hip shift you recommend in the 'ball forward' drill. I know you are not contradicting yourself - I just struggle understanding the difference between the two. Thanks

I didn’t have time to try this on the range, but used the finish position on the course as a rehearsal after my practice swing. My strike was considerably better. Thanks for the tip.

Jonathan, just for reference, could you please share with us this gentleman's clubhead speed with his driver and also how far he carries the golf ball with his driver? - Thank You!🙂

I use this setup as my 1-80 yard approach shots, I find it extremely accurate. It simplifies the movements, as he mentions, great low point control and I have more focus on tempo and direction. Which improves scoring… I am much more confident in my short game and up/down %. I have never thought about using this concept to improve my full swing compression, but I do know with my longer irons and especially driver, I don’t have 90% of my weight on that front foot at impact. Can’t wait to try it!

Jonathan would you say that leading with your hip turn is a key component to lagging the club in this move to compress the ball?

It sure is. I’ve got a video coming out next week exactly about that 👍🏼

Is this drill for driver also… I’ve been working on this drill with pitching wedge… This feels weird at first but now it is helping me get to the ball where I should be before releasing the club. I understand the rotation. Thanks for this video. If it takes me 6 months I’ll keep working on it.

Looks like a drill I need. When you start the drill with your half backswing, it looks almost the same as your full swing, or is it just the camera angle.

Question about ulnar deviation - impact position has ulnar in the trail hand, when you turn back for the drill do you leave the ulnar in?

I think this is the best video I’ve found. I went into the back yard and hit into the net and every shot was pure. No divots. Out of all the “experts” I haven’t seen anyone simplify the proper swing. Just gotta remember to stay connected

Thank you coach. I literally wanted to throw my clubs away after hacking at the ball today during my practice session. Sounds silly but this video gave me a bit of hope and structure to be disciplined and rep useful drills as opposed to swinging aimlessly during a practice session. Thank you again.

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but what do you personally feel to make sure you’re making a “full” and “deep enough” backswing? Sometimes i think this is the $1M question. Does it relate to your left shoulder getting over your right foot, getting your hips turned at least 45-60 degrees? How do you make sure you’re making a sufficiently long and deep enough backswing without it feeling manufactured and losing the built up torque at the top?
@phill8504 Жыл бұрын
To me, the back swing is kind of a personal ability/flexibility thing. I believe Jchowngolf has a video where he is hitting an 8 iron 166, with a quarter to half swing. I have friends (we are old) that have very short back swings, maybe half swings, and hit the ball plenty long and straight. With this drill don’t get too ridged, especially the left arm and shoulder and wrists, good luck

If I can master beginning my swing from the impact position, what then is the advantage of going back to addressing the ball normally?

Whenever I try this drill it feels like my swing gets very short and quick. I notice your tempo in the demo is also very quick, though probably normal for you. Is the impact position for driver the same and will this drill help with that club?
@thetruth4566 Жыл бұрын
I've tried many drills from the "experts" on YT and this is the best drill by far i've tried that instantly increased my accuracy and distance. My ball flight was higher than i've ever hit as well, which will help me hold more greens with longer irons. I don't like or comment on many YT videos but this one deserves it. Well done sir!

i'm confused. you talk about not wanting the low point behind the ball, but then you show him swinging the driver. don't you want the low point of the driver club head to be behind the ball and catch the ball on the way up?
