I've recently been trying to get more into carving anatomy and particularly faces, in wood carving this can be rather tricky due to the subtractive nature of the work. It can also be very rewarding when you carve something the way you pictured it in your mind.
In this video I take you through some of the steps I used to carve six little practice heads from lime wood and then a larger head from ash, in an attempt to see how much the practice helped.
If you'd like to get into carving but only have the use of flat bench chisels and affordable wood species like pine, I currently have three Skillshare classes available for that exact combination of resources - skillshare.com...
Pinterest board of anatomy carving resources - www.pinterest....
Thank you for viewing, check out the various links below if you'd like to see what else I get up to.

Very, very enjoyable Clint. Just so good to see you constantly improving at this craft. Your perseverance is most impressive. Does it sound presumptuous to say that I'm proud of you? Well, I am anyway! Cheers mate. God bless you all there and stay healthy.

Not presumptuous at all! I consider that a big compliment, thank you very much. I'm trying, it's difficult but then that's kinda the point I think. Always good to hear from you Mark

Could you stick many squares of plywood together to give you a cheap base to carve a full-size head?
@ClintRoseCarving
@ClintRoseCarving Жыл бұрын
You could try and carve anything, there's no rules. Plywood can be tricky though with hand tools especially as the grain switches a lot between the layers. If you used a power carver like a rotary tool of some kind then it would be more feasible.
